Job Summary

This role, reporting to the Operations Superintendent Supply Chain Management, supports requisitioning, receiving, materials issuance, inventory control, and replenishment of supplies in support of vehicle maintenance and repair activities. Duties also include identifying parts and equipment, searching for parts, shipping and receiving parts, providing customer service and advice, expediting emergency materials, operating material handling equipment, scheduling pick-up and deliveries and maintaining records.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support maintenance operations with parts requisitioning and inventory replenishment while remaining aligned with Supply Chain Management (SCM) strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Conduct comprehensive research, sourcing, quoting, requisitioning, and expediting of parts in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to maintenance and support personnel by promptly communicating delivery times and addressing inventory and material requests.
  • Inspects incoming parts and materials to verify shipment details and ensure adherence to purchase order quantities, pricing, terms, and quality assurance standards.
  • Record receipts in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, including scanning, maintaining, and completing delivery documentation.
  • Proactively investigate and monitor quotes, orders, and other requests, maintaining effective communication with vendors as necessary.
  • Coordinate pickups and shipments of materials, ensures timely returns of parts and cores, and process and monitor warranty claims.
  • Issue inventory in accordance with parts and material requests.
  • Provide direction, support, and oversight to warehouse personnel.
  • Enhances, upholds, and ensures the proper storage and organization of inventory - under direction of Operations Superintendent, SCM.
  • Conduct inventory cycle counts and assist in resolving discrepancies as necessary.
  • Analyze inventory requirements utilizing reports and other information, makes recommendations to optimize stock levels for improved efficiency.
  • Record and arrange for the disposal of surplus material and equipment. 
  • Perform daily safety checks, promote, and adhere to a safe working practices and environment,
  • Clean and maintain inventory storage and other work areas to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Operate general material handling equipment, including forklifts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a post-secondary parts management technician certificate program and Red Seal Certification; OR 3 to 4 experience years in a heavy or industrial vehicle and equipment parts environment and ability to obtain a Parts Management Technician Certificate within 18 months.
  • 3 to 4 experience years in a heavy or industrial vehicle and equipment parts environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience using an ERP/MRP replenishment system
  • Ability to complete WHMIS and Forklift Certification with 3 months of hire.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Drivers license.
  • Assessment tests may be conducted to evaluate knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Candidates who are selected must provide documentation to verify their educational qualifications.
  • Proficient in conducting comprehensive research and sourcing a diverse range of vehicle parts across multiple makes and models, utilizing available resources.
  • Possesses technical expertise in vehicles and equipment systems.

  • Demonstrates a solid understanding and knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems commonly found in heavy equipment, applying this knowledge to assist in the accurate ordering of parts.

  • Able to perform physical labor, including heavy lifting.

JOB SUMMARY


The Transit Fleet and Facilities Maintenance team provides safe, reliable, efficient, timely and cost-effective transit vehicle maintenance services to support federally regulated transit services within the City of Ottawa. 
 

You are responsible for performing a wide range of duties expected of a Truck and Coach Technician, including, but not limited to, the following: conducting diagnostic inspection of vehicles*, performing general mechanical overhaul and repair work , and performing daily maintenance repairs.  You perform all unit changes or repairs to Fleet vehicles (including but not limited to transmission, brakes, suspensions, electrical components, injectors, radiators, steering, differentials and air systems) and make miscellaneous adjustments to doors, destination signs and other vehicle systems.
 

vehicles*-refers to buses within the Transit Fleet Maintenance Division and any other Fleet vehicle within the Municipal Maintenance Division (cars/trucks, forklifts, etc.). 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Completion of Truck and Coach Technician apprenticeship program of 6720 hours
Completion of advanced technical courses is an asset

Minimum of 1 year of experience following attainment of certification

 

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Truck and Coach Technician 310T

  • Oversee and performs regular facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems monitoring and inspection, preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure facility uptime objectives are met, uninterrupted client operation and asset integrity of assigned facility are maintained.  Provides observations about facility, facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies and provides recommendations for enhancement and repair in partnership with Asset Management Team and the BGIS Facility Management Office (FMO). 
  • Oversee and monitors assigned facility by conducting facility walkthroughs, mechanical and electrical equipment and system monitoring and inspection when required 
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Implement and monitor execution of inspection checklists and schedules. 

Occupancy Experience: 

  • Assists in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services delivered on time and with high quality. 
  • Prioritize occupant comfort and satisfaction through efficient and timely delivery service. 
  • Address occupant concerns and requests in a professional manner. 

Proactive Communication and Escalation: 

  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby and emergency call-outs as they arise

  • Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and management regarding maintenance activities and challenges.

Work Order Management: 

  • Oversee and maintains, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical building systems and equipment 
  • Oversee and responds to routine and on-demand service requests and oversees the execution of preventative and corrective maintenance on facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems 
  • Assigns, prioritizes and monitors work progress in partnership with the BGIS CMMS Team.  
  • Monitors execution of activities and performance to ensure timely completion and adherence to all requirements including but not limited to operating procedures and practices, quality, performance and contract response requirements. 
  • In partnership with the Central Work Order Management Team Manage work orders efficiently, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and importance. 
  • Ensure accurate documentation of work performed and maintain detailed records. 

Financial Ownership (Including Quotes Management): 

  • Oversees and maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required.  Submits all expenditures on a timely basis

Vendor Management: 

  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors for specialized maintenance services. 
  • With support of the BGIS Strategic Sourcing and Vendor Management Evaluate vendor performance when required. 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • 5 years of facility operations and maintenance work experience
  • Previous people leadership experience, preferred
  • High school diploma plus trades training and certification
  • Ability to lead a team of individuals
  • Highly-advanced ability to adhere to processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance 
  • Highly-advanced ability to maintain and repair building mechanical and electrical equipment and systems

Duties & Responsibilities

  • MOC is responsible for technical dispatch and will use AMOS, Porter's maintenance system, to ensure all scheduled and unscheduled maintenace is carried out and released prior to dispatch
  • Monitor deferred defects as part of technical dispatch
  • Work with Operational Planners in support of Work Packs that are issued to overnight aircraft at main bases and outstations and adjust should aircraft swaps arise

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responds to and performs labouring requests that can include rehabilitation of manholes, catch basins, assisting the operator of the Hydro-Excavator truck in a variety of soft-digging and day-lighting operations, assisting with the repair of water main valves and curb stops.
  • Supervision of hand crews when Supervisor VI is not present.
  • Operates related tools and equipment, e.g. jack-hammer, saw cutting tools, hoists and skid-steer loader, as required.
  • Installs road warning signs and barricades in accordance with approved standards. Responds to enquiries and concerns from contractors and the public.
  • Performs routine safety checks and servicing, e.g. maintaining fluid levels and greasing, of equipment such as one-ton air compressor saws, skid-steer loader and other related tools for the job.
  • Identifying problems with existing grade levels, structural deficiencies, compaction process and recommends corrective measures.
  • Consults with the meter shop staff, as required, and informs them when jobs are complete.
  • Ensures an appropriate inventory of supplies are available.
  • Complies with current Occupational Health and Safety regulations, including confined space entry procedures.
  • Performs the duties of the Waste Water Inspector as required.
  • Participates in on-going training, including operator certification training as directed.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
