Job Summary: As a member of the BGIS Sustainable Cleaning Solutions Team, you will be responsible for a designated zone of job sites contracted for service. You will oversee the execution of duties and ensure all aspects of the client contract are being fulfilled, with an emphasis on quality control, health and safety & striving to exceed client expectations.

Key Responsibilities: Functioning as a core member of the operations team and in support to the Director of Operations the Cleaning Inspector will:

  • Ensure client accounts are provided with a high level of service through supervision and coordination of activities by cleaners and Subcontractors
  • Maintain operational continuity at job sites and attend to any day time emergencies
  • Respond quickly and efficiently to all operational requests
  • Report any safety or security issues to Operations department
  • Perform internal audits, prepare reports of findings, and maintain records of corrective actions
  • Inspect facilities to ensure safety and cleanliness standards are met
  • Coordinate, review and report on the field quality inspections to ensure safety, security and cleanliness
  • Execute action plans and follow up on deficiencies as outlined in quality inspections to resolve all facility issues efficiently
  • Follow up with cleaners and Subcontractors to ensure they are completing all required tasks and are in compliance with relevant legislation, standard criteria and corporate policies.
  • Ensure Subcontractors and cleaners are cleared/ trained through all security protocols
  • Train cleaners and Subcontractors in performing duties
  • Maintain work/periodic schedules according to client needs
  • Demonstrate the values of the company and lead by example at all times in order to cultivate a culture of quality and best practices
  • Monitor absences, turnover and ensure flexible cover arrangements within short notice
  • Track inventory and equipment
  • Protect company’s and clients assets from misuse and damage
  • Handle and assist with emergency procedures accordingly and as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • 2+ years of applicable experience in a Cleaning/ Service related field
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written format with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Professional, courteous, approachable manner with a "can-do" attitude
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and own vehicle
  • Familiarity with janitorial/battery operated equipment
  • Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Software 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment to accomplish multiple goals
  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills/ must adhere to tight deadlines/respond quickly to situations/be able to effectively execute solutions
  • Self-disciplined and accountable with strong interpersonal skills

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Coordination 

  • Acts as the first point-of-contact for environmental and health inquiries and incidents.
  • Provides guidance to team members on environmental and health matters, and escalates inquiries, where appropriate
  • Coordinates the implementation of environmental, health and safety programs along with related processes, procedures and resources
  • Coordinates environmental, health and safety activities including but not limited to attending tenant OSH committee meetings, attending environmental committee meetings and activities, undertaking incident investigation and resolution, completing equipment and systems registration, developing emergency response procedures and business continuity planning activities, completing and delivering training, completing annual management system re-registration, managing data and generating reports, and conducting environmental compliance audits.

  • Maintains and assists with the creation of environmental, health and safety documentation including but not limited to plans, processes, forms, logbooks, and procedures.
  • Create and maintain documentation including but not limited to instruction sheets, checklists, forms, and training materials.
  • Support construction activity teams (Projects and O&M) by creating, distributing, verifying and maintaining documentation such as work instructions, checklists, training materials
  • Conducts regular inspections of facilities to mitigate any Environmental regulatory issues and/or Health and Safety Concerns before an incident or service call is received.
  • Maintains business continuity and emergency management plans and procedures
  • Participates in field inspections, job observations, health, safety and environment audits and other types of reviews for the purpose of monitoring compliance to environmental and health regulations and identifying risks.  Provides findings about risks and suggestions for improvement.

Incident Investigation, Resolution & Reduction

  • Assists in the investigation and resolution of incidents including root-cause analysis and providing probable causes of incidents and recommendations for resolution
  • Coordinates the implementation of corrective and preventative measures
  • Assists in the identification and analysis of trends.  Communicates observations and provides suggestions for incident reduction measures

Audit Compliance, Data Maintenance & Reporting 

  • Maintains all environmental, health and safety data including but not limited to incident data, and regulatory and process compliance data within applicable databases and all other types of information storage systems
  • Assists in the audit of compliance records and all other environmental, health and safety data
  • Prepares and distributes various environmental, health and safety related reports including but not limited to incident reports
  • Experience with database development, programing and maintenance considered an asset
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Strong background in environmental management system development and administration, with knowledge of environmental regulations and environmental compliance auditing an asset.
  • Certification in one or more of the following – Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety; Certificate in Environmental Management through a Community College; University degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies
  • 1 to 3 years of environmental, health and safety work experience
  • Understanding of environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of emergency management requirements
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills along with ability to coordinate multiple requirements (i.e. processes, activities, projects, emergency response procedures, etc.) simultaneously

•Coordinate DCS IT asset redundant power requirements with appropriate facilities staff. Ensure proper load balance and fail-over capacity to avoid cascading failures. 
•Prepare and coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments. Compare packing lists with purchase details to ensure accurate make, model, and quantities are received and processed.

JOB SUMMARY

The mandate of Water Services is to provide treatment and distribution of a sustainable supply of high-quality drinking water and is committed to protecting the environment by collecting and treating wastewater for the health and prosperity of Ottawa. 

You are responsible for planned, unplanned and emergency inspection, testing, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and/or repair of process mechanical systems and equipment within Water Services’ water treatment, supply and storage facilities (including the Water Purification Plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, elevated tanks, metering facilities and well treatment systems) or wastewater treatment and collection facilities (including Wastewater treatment plant, remote pumping stations, odour control facilities, regulators, lagoons, valve chambers, storage tanks). 

These duties are carried out in an industrial, production, regulated and quality focused environment and, as such, must be completed in consideration of and in close coordination with other engineering, skilled trade and maintenance staff in the Branch.

As a licensed water treatment, wastewater treatment and/or wastewater collection system operator, you are also responsible for operating various pieces of process equipment (in Drinking Water this spans water treatment, distribution and supply process equipment and in Wastewater this spans wastewater treatment and collection process equipment) and/or adjusting various water or wastewater treatment system process parameters, after prior consultation with and in close coordination with other licensed operating staff in the Branch.

Note these systems and equipment include, but are not limited to:  process chemical feed, metering, piping and storage systems (e.g. sulphuric acid, sodium hypochlorite, aluminium sulphate, sodium silicate, sodium bisulphite, sodium hydroxide, potassium permanganate, hydrofluorosilicic acid, aqueous ammonia, etc.), raw water, treated drinking water, effluent water and sanitary sewage screening, processing, metering, piping, pumping and valve systems (fractional horsepower to several thousand horsepower, 6mm to 2450m dia or 4500mm x 3600mm), sludge collection, transfer and mixing systems, pressure and flow control valves, crane, rigging and hoisting systems (up to 5 tons), pumps, blowers, motors, engines, compressors, vacuum systems, gear boxes, clutches, turbines and centrifuges (fractional horsepower to several thousand horsepower). The equipment may or may not be drained, evacuated or energized, during the work, and is located in a variety of locations including chemical feed and storage areas, electrical equipment rooms, machine rooms, generator rooms, pump rooms, valve rooms and chambers, confined spaces, elevated tanks, above and below grade chambers, tanks and reservoirs, outdoor power substations, office areas, etc.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Industrial Millwright apprenticeship program of 8000 hours 

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a licensed Industrial Millwright in a combination of both process-dependant industries and construction services including demonstrated experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of industrial and process mechanical equipment and the installation, construction and commissioning of process mechanical and chemical feed systems.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Industrial Mechanic Millwright 433A
Must obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Operator-in-Training Certificate within the applicable Drinking Water/Wastewater process area, within the timeframe determined by the employer
Must obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Class 1 Operator Certificate within the applicable Drinking Water/Wastewater process area, within the timeframe determined by the employer
Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
Valid Certified Cross Connection Control Specialist with Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA)
Transportation of Dangerous Goods training certificate approved in Ontario
Must obtain Mobile Crane Operator 0-8 ton (P930030) training certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer
Must obtain Ontario unrestricted AZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) within the timeframe determined by the employer
