Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
The Occupational Health Nurse will work closely with Managers, Supervisors and individual employees to promote occupational health and safety compliance in the plant. They will focus on education, promotion, and restoration of employee’s health; as well as, monitor positive health models to make Maple Leaf a safe and healthy work environment
As an Occupational Health Nurse, you will:
- Manage short and long-term disability claims and assist on WSIB claims including early intervention, administration, early and safe return to work plans.
- Liaise and communicate with all medical and health professionals providing care to employees if that care impacts employee’s capabilities
- Act as the WSIB Program Administrator:

- File Form 7’s
- Initiate the Return to Work program with the support of Operations and Reliability
- Keep an up to date Modified Work Tracker to ensure workers are being accommodated appropriately and communicate with the appropriate Team Leaders/Group Leaders/Operations Leaders/Health and Safety if updates are required.
- Review all accepted WSIB claims for potential of appeal, file appeals and ultimately present submissions in support of the appeal

- Manages health and safety programs, such as modified duty plans, ergonomics, hearing testing, preventative stretching, heat/cold stress, etc.
- Provide first aid for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illness, including assessments, follow-ups and referral as indicated
- Participates in the Occupational Health maintenance program through various activities.
- Participate in programs such as blood pressure clinics, flu clinics, first aid and CPR training.
- Teaching and encouraging employees to practice healthy lifestyles.
- Promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
- Maintain confidential medical records
- Referrals to employee assistance providers as necessary
What You’ll Bring:
- Registered Nurse or nurse practitioner
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Educating employees about preventative care and prescribed treatments.
- Experience in WSIB claims management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with Union and Management.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with high level of accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced changing manufacturing environment.
- Ability to take the initiative and problem solve.
- Work with minimal supervision and be active team member.
