As a Truck Driver III during Winter months, you will:

  • Operate a tandem or single axle sand/plow while engaged in snow and ice control
  • Load and unload materials
  • Perform routine maintenance duties, such as cleaning the truck box and worksite, and performing routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • Be aware of obstacles adjacent to the road to avoid damage to Public Property when operating plow, including snow off the wing
  • Inform the Leader of any on-the-road issues with equipment or observed accident or property damage
  • Complete simple paperwork and reports such as but not limited to: defect slips, time cards, manifest logs, safety and damage reports, spills
  • General labour including brushing, manual sidewalk cleaning, sanding, snow shoveling, pothole repairs, manually spread sand on icy areas and other snow and ice-related duties
  • Ensure all work is to be performed in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health & Safety Program and Enviso - Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
  • Perform other related duties as required

As an Equipment Operator III during Summer months, you will:

  • Operate a Sweeper, Loader, Grader, Rosco Spray Injection unit and other various types of Operator III equipment as required
  • Carry out minor maintenance requirement
  • Perform daily inspection of equipment and report deficiencies
  • Safely operate the assigned equipment following the occupational hazards applicable to the work
  • Promote a reporting culture for all incidents and near misses by completing IDC’s and reporting when the incident occurs and remeding the issue as soon as possible
  • Complete daily equipment check sheets, Field Level Risk Assessments - (FLRA), log books and address any issues found, report to RMS or Supervisor
  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs) for each location and task
  • Communicate safety and training opportunities to all employees
  • During periods when equipment operator work is not required, perform other duties which may include but are not limited to truck driving, litter control, labouring, etc.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso Environmental Program - ISO 14001
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • 2 years experience operating vehicles and equipment assigned to the position or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 
  • Must have 2 years experience operating Operator III equipment.
  • Must have 1 year experience operating tandem or single axle sander/plow truck engaged in snow and ice control
  • Must be COE trained and passed on both Sweeper and Plow/Sander
  • City Grader, Roscoe Spray Injection and Loader training and passed will be considered to be an asset
  • Valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s licence with Air Brakes Endorsement (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Knowledge of the PARS Operating Procedures and SOP’s
  • Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment and vehicles skillfully, efficiently, and safely
  • Ability to maintain and operate equipment in a manner that preserves the lifetime of the equipment
  • Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform the work of this position
  • Ability to respond to inquiries/complaints in a manner that is conciliatory and sensitive to the needs of the public

  • Winter: average of 80 hours biweekly, rotating shifts to provide 24 hour, 7 days per week coverage is a requirement of the position
  • Summer: 40 hours per week, rotating night work to provide coverage

Salary:

  • Truck Driver III: $31.097 (Hourly); $64,930.54 (Annually)
  • Equipment Operator III: $33.280 (Hourly); $69,488.64 (Annually)
