As a Truck Driver IV in Paving Operations you will:

  • Operate and care for a tractor trailer combination (trucks up to GVWR 63500 kg with a trailer less than 4600 kg)
  • Drive vehicles through heavy city traffic and load/unload the trailer in uneven and muddy conditions
  • Pickup, deliver, and unload large pieces of equipment and material from various locations within Edmonton
  • Perform light maintenance inspections on trucks (checking oil, tires, air brakes) and complete the pre-trip inspection forms
  • Maintain equipment as required
  • Wash tractor, trailers or other onsite equipment
  • Perform Box Off/On duties on trucks when needed
  • Complete daily time sheets
  • Operate 2-way radios
  • Ensure all equipment /loads are properly secured (chains,strips and articulation lock outs)
  • Follow Designated moving permit routes on permits
  • Maintain all designated signage on the unit when hauling equipment
  • Report any property damage occurs while performing Assigned duties 
  • Follow SOPs related to each task being performed
  • Know and exercise legislation related to worker rights and responsibilities or safety
  • Provide support for the reporting, verifying and documenting of any environmental incidents
  • Perform general labouring duties during periods when driving is not required. Incumbents will be assigned duties which may include and are not limited to assisting paving crews , assisting base crews , assisting manhole crews, assisting grinding crews, assisting crack sealing crew, flagging, manual sidewalk cleaning, assisting concrete crews, potholes and asphalt repairs and other labouring duties.
  • Perform other duties as required
  • All work is to be performed in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso Environmental Program - ISO 14001

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 8
  • Experience in the operation of vehicles assigned to the position
  • Valid Class 1 Alberta Driver's License and Air Brake Certification (or provincial equivalent)
  • Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's Permit is a requirement of the position
  • Tractor- Trailer Training
  • National Safety Carrier course
  • Ability to load and unload materials, vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
  • Physical strength and ability to perform the work required in this position
  • Ability to work at various locations around the City, including areas that may not be reachable by public transit and satellite locations from trailers that will move throughout the summer season
  • Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City's Environmental Management System (EMS)

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Salary: $33.038 (Hourly)
