Main Purpose and Function
The Cashier Receptionist performs clerical, informational and elementary cashiering work of a routine nature in connection with the operation of VanDusen Botanical Garden and Bloedel Conservatory. The position provides information and assistance to patrons regarding garden admission, membership, rentals, policies, events, schedules, and fees; receives, records and takes payments and maintains related clerical records. The Cashier Receptionist answers public inquiries, providing excellent customer support, assists with orienting office staff and other related duties as required.
Specific Duties/Responsibilities
- Provides information and assistance to patrons regarding a wide variety of garden and conservatory policies, practices and regulations, membership benefits, categories and pricing, events, hours, rentals and fees.
- Answering general inquiries over the phone and on email, and processing transactions and payments over the phone
- Receives tickets, cash, cheques and credit card payments, makes change for patrons.
- Processing ticket sales, scanning online tickets for entry, exchanging tickets online and looking up ticket purchases using Showpass, our online ticketing provider
- Enters information into Active Net, and utilizes POS.
- Sells and renews memberships, maintains minor clerical records; compiles non- complex statistical data; performs incidental routine word processing tasks as required.
- Tallies and balances cash, records sales and admissions and secures cash drawer daily and completes weekly cash deposits.
- Assists and orients auxiliary staff as required.
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education and Experience:
Completion of Grade 11, supplemented by some experience in dealing with the public and some cashier experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of the garden and conservatory and the products and services provided and of the practices, regulations and procedures applicable to the work.
- Some knowledge of cashiering methods and practices.
- Working knowledge of office equipment and procedures including a computer terminal and related office application software, such as MS Office software programs – Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Sound knowledge of recreation software, including POS, and Photo ID.
- Good numerical skills
- Ability to receive payments, make change, issue tickets, receipts and reimbursements, balance cash and prepare cash reports and floats.
- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and effective manner
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy; attention to detail;
- Ability to assist and orient other staff
- Ability to work effectively as a part of a facility staff team
- Ability to maintain minor clerical records, to compile non-complex statistical data and to perform incidental word processing tasks related to the work.
- Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task and handle interruptions while maintaining a positive customer service attitude
- Experience working with diverse populations.
