JOB SUMMARY
The mandate of Employment and Social Services is to provide financial assistance, employment supports and related programs such as Ontario Works, Essential Health and Social Supports (EHSS), Child Care, Residential services and the Home Support program through four Employment and Social Services sites.
You are responsible for collaborating with and supporting case management and employment staff at various stages in the delivery of community and social services; verifying eligibility and granting benefits for ongoing Ontario Works (OW) and Essential Health and Social Supports (EHSS); processing requests from clients for payment of arrears, mandatory and discretionary items as well as payments to vendors in accordance with Departmental policies and procedures and in consultation with Case Coordinators and Supervisors; providing information to clients with regards to Ontario Works, employment and other social services offered by the Department as well as the community; utilizing local, provincial and federal information systems for processing, validating and recording client and employer information; liaising with Branch and Departmental staff, a variety of service providers and third parties including government agencies, employers, trainers and the general public; and contributing to the overall improvement of service delivery and the operation of the work unit.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12
Minimum of 4 years of clerical experience of which 2 years is in a social services setting.
KNOWLEDGE
- Applicable federal, provincial and municipal legislation, policy, procedures and programs
- Social Services agencies and programs, including community services/resources
- Assessment, interviewing and case management techniques
- Research, data comparison and verification techniques
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SERVICE, SAMS (Social Assistance Management System), Interconnect, EI Info-Share, VTAX, and CaseFlo.
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement:Designated Day 1 Ready – immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire.
- Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Successful candidates meeting the employer's qualification standard will be placed on the permanent and/or temporary eligibility list in order of seniority.
- The permanent eligibility list will be utilized to fill permanent (full time continuous) vacancies from the closing date of the competition until the opening date of the next competition.
- The temporary eligibility list will be utilized to fill full temporary vacancies for up to one year from the closing date of this competition.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
