ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST TECHNICIAN Full-time Job

Major Responsibilities:

  • Research, analyze and report on water meter specifications and standards.(i.e., residential, multi-unit residential, & Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) standards).
  • Update water meter records in the Water Billing System (WMACS).
  • Enter, maintain, and update tracking of Aclara programming software and programming operations.
  • Work with technical data and transcripts to relay information to both internal and external customers.
  • Review technician commentary and work performed for completed and open service calls attended by a technician.
  • Assemble water meters according to size.
  • Perform off-reads and diagnose damaged meters to prepare for warranty.
  • Change register heads for the different types of meters in accordance with technical standards.
  • Search, evaluate and analyze records, notes, and plans in response to inquiries and project needs.
  • Enter, maintain, and update tracking of as built/record drawings and water meters.
  • Extract, summarize and analyze water billing data and information as required.
  • Check peer's completed work for data accuracy as assigned.
  • Perform general office work as assigned.

 

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Graduate in Civil, Chemical, Environmental or Earth Sciences Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  2. Knowledge of Toronto water applications such as Aclara, WMACS, Hansen, Laserfiche, iView Toronto Water Asset Geodatabase (TWAG).
  3. Familiar with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  4. Knowledge of municipal installation and specifications and standards. 
  5. Experience preparing data files maps and summaries and in generating graphical summaries.
  6. Experience, either practical or theoretical, working with Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection Networks.
  7. Ability to travel to various work locations in a timely and efficient manner.
  8. Knowledge in civil/municipal engineering, design and construction of water meters, water mains, and stormwater metering.
  9. Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, documents and technical drawings.
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with project teams and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  11. Ability to perform manual and computerized mathematical calculations in an engineering environment.
  12. Ability to multi-task, learn and work under pressure. 

 

 

You must also have:

  • Knowledge in the sampling of ground water, surface water, industrial, commercial and institutional.
  • Knowledge of groundwater and industrial wastewater generation.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and documents (e.g. plans and profiles, sewer drawings, specifications etc.).
  • Understanding of the principles and application of environmental monitoring theories, methods and practices.
  • Familiar with Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 681, Sewers.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations, statutes, standards and practices (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Environment Acts).
  • Basic analytical skills with the ability to perform manual and computerized mathematical calculations in an engineering environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with consultants, contractors, colleagues, and other City employees at all levels and members of the public.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, organize.
