As a Labourer II, you will assist in the construction and maintenance of parks areas throughout the City of Edmonton. Specific duties may include:
- Perform semi-skilled manual labour related to landscape construction, restoration and site reclamation work for parks
- Operate, maintain and know standard methods of safely using a variety of hand and power tools used in landscape construction work area, including landscape construction related hand tools such as shovels, rakes and carpentry tools, and power tools such as a chainsaw, sawzall, tamper, jack hammer, post pounder, generator and water pump
- Perform duties with general knowledge and awareness of safety precautions and typical safety hazards associated with work area
- Frequently operate City motor vehicles and equipment, including pick-up truck/crew cab with passengers, truck with trailer and toolcat with attachments
- Work independently when familiar with duties; work is monitored by supervisor to ensure production meets standards
- Construct and restore Open Space such as Sports Fields, golf courses, river valley trails and shrub beds, landscaping and laying sod
- Construct and restore hard landscaping structures and retaining walls, fences, bollards
- Install and construct sports fields and sports specific fixtures such as chain link fences, soccer sets and jump pits
- Move and transport waste and materials; load and unload materials and equipment for trucks
- Read and interpret surface grading plans and drawings
- Perform related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 10
- 1 year of experience in landscape construction and refurbishment; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
- Extensive knowledge of Edmonton roadway systems will be considered an asset
- Completion of Chainsaw training will be considered an asset
- Knowledge and awareness of safety precautions and typical safety hazards associated with assigned work
- Ability to use the motor vehicles as indicated, and use necessary hand and power tools for assigned work
- Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions
- Ability to maintain simple records
- Physical ability and manual dexterity to performing the duties assigned, including repetitive heavy manual labour, such as lifting up to 50 lbs, for extended periods of time under various weather conditions at various heights
- Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring as required
- Emergency Level First Aid Certificate and WHMIS training will be considered an asset
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Air Brake Certification on your current licence is an asset. Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position

Hours of Work: 40 per week, Monday - Sunday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program. Overtime may be required.
