A Labourer II in Infrastructure Maintenance is a semi-skilled manual labour position. Tasks of this nature involve the use of some acquired skills. Duties include the ability to use a variety of hand tools and power tools including small mixers and hand trowels. Frequent operation of motor vehicles and other equipment pertaining, including light trucks and 2 ton trucks, involved in the Sidewalk Maintenance program.
In this position employees will be working with a bagged concrete material, and will require the worker to wear Respiratory Protective Equipment. With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
- Travel to various job sites in relation to a predetermined schedule
- Participates in on site field condition review and hazard assessments
- Set up of equipment and traffic control as directed by field leadership
- Disassemble or remove damaged or deteriorated assets as needed
- Participate in field training
- Keep the operational area tidy during work and clean up at the end of the task
- Loading, transport, and unloading of materials and tools
- Physical strength and agility to perform the work of the class
- Considerable knowledge of methods, practices and rules of the safe operation of the assigned equipment
- Proper operation and daily maintenance of all equipment included in the operation of your task
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
- Maintain a Class 5 license and ability to obtain a city driving permit C
- Prepare simple work records such as Vehicle Pre Trip Inspections, Field Level Hazard Assessments and Order Resource forms
- Timely reporting of and near miss or safety incidents
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Completion of the 10th school grade
- Experience in Roadway Maintenance work would be considered an asset
- Good knowledge of the methods and practices used in operating and caring for equipment
- The ability and knowledge to complete an equipment pre-trip inspection on correlating equipment required for the task
- Ability to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
- Knowledge of the daily maintenance required on the equipment
- Knowledge of the PARS Operating Procedures
- Emergency First Aid Certificate
- Physically capable of performing the duties assigned to the position class
- Exemplary customer service skills
- Ability to work and make decisions in an independent manner
- Adaptable to changing priorities, whether because of managerial direction or weather dependency
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
