Construction Site Superintendent is responsible for actively managing construction projects at the site, responsible for Site EHS safety and supervision, directing construction trades and resolving site conflicts with schedule, coordination and design, and ensuring project quality and construction industry standards are met.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Construction Site Management and Supervision

  • Daily supervision and coordination of the interior finishing sub-trades.
  • Ensure construction industry standards are met and ensure high quality control in the effort to minimize deficiencies.
  • Ensure project materials and workmanship meet project design specifications and high-quality standards.
  • Ensure smooth coordination of all construction related activities.
  • Adhere to project schedule deliverables and critical path.
  • Supervise trades / subcontractors / workers.
  • Assist Project Mangers in the creation of site plans and procedures (i.e., scheduling and forecasting resources).
  • Provide resolution to project issues as they arise and communicate project issues in a timely manner to Project Manager (i.e., work scheduling conflicts, work interference, errors / discrepancies / omissions in Consultant’s design drawings, project deficiencies list, poor workmanship quality, etc.).
  • Coordinate and direct independent testing and inspections as required.
  • Document daily job report and keep Construction Manager informed of project status.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned (i.e., housekeeping, basic handyman / carpentry, etc.).

Safety    

  • Provide leadership and direction to safety professionals, and all other site personnel.
  • Ensure trades/subcontractors / workers adhere to health and safety policies, procedures and best practices. Promote a safe work environment (i.e., site inspection, hazard assessment, toolbox safety talk, etc.).
  • In the event of accident informs immediately according to Company procedure.
  • Follows Company procedures to ensure safe environment, personal safety and safety of others.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Construction, Engineering, Business or related field. Candidates with equivalent experience may be considered.             
  • Health & Safety related training applicable to construction sites including Competent Supervisor.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive construction project management experience (i.e., commercial, industrial, residential, new construction projects, tenant improvements, interior-fit up, renovation, additions). Canadian / Ontario experience preferred.
  • Understanding of construction industry standards and operations (i.e., construction specifications, building materials, methods and procedures).
  • Construction project management experience in high security environment is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge and experience working with various tools and equipment.
  • Must have experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro, AutoCAD Viewer and Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Word, Project, Outlook).
  • Intermediate mathematical skills.
  • Team management, including assessing and providing feedback on job performance to sub-trades.
  • Problem solving / conflict resolution and sound decision-making skills.
  • Ability to visualize the entire project, anticipate issues and implement solutions in collaboration with Project Managers.
  • Attention to detail, specifically quality control to minimize deficiencies in real-time.
  • Time management and organizational skills to ensure project deadlines are met.

Responsible for the review, inspection and approval of the construction of plumbing systems for all buildings regulated by the Ontario Building Code.
 

Provides a broad range of comprehensive technical, expert, and professional, advisory service for plumbing systems for all buildings under the Ontario Building Code. This service includes specialized technical advice in the following disciplines of the Building Code (Plumbing), applicable law, agreements and development approvals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year community college diploma as an Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Fire Protection or Construction Technologist

Minimum of 7 years of related experience in the design and construction of buildings, including a minimum of 3 years in the fields of plan examination, building inspection and enforcement of the Ontario Building Code Act and regulations

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Plumber 306A
AND
Must have successfully completed the provincially mandated examinations program administered by Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing relating to: Building Code Act and the Ontario Building Code; in the categories of qualifications that correspond to the types of buildings that will be inspected (reviews of drawings and inspection of construction), and plumbing building systems, as set out in the Ontario Building Code. Including:
a.  Legal Process for Building Officials and Designers 2012, and
b.  Plumbing All Buildings 2012
AND
Preference to those with:
Building Code Qualified (BCQ) or Certified Building Code Official (C.B.C.O.) in the Ontario Building Officials Association

KNOWLEDGE

  • Specialized knowledge of building plumbing and/or mechanical technology and systems

You are responsible for inspection of several small concurrent projects and/or a major capital project, or for several subdivision and site plan development projects. You inspect contractor work to ensure conformance with contractual requirements by coordinating site work activities of general contractors, consultants, utility companies, survey crews, city operational crews; ensure proper testing and documenting of work activities and material usage by contractors per City of Ottawa standards and contract specifications, as well as provincial and municipal by-laws and codes; prepare and ensure correct quantity measurement for contract progress payments including change orders and fees; complete as built and summary records; provide a point of contact for public; field inquiries and complaints to ensure minimum disruption; and recommend changes to improve service/efficiency.

The Design and Construction Facilities Branch is responsible for architecture, engineering and landscape architecture services, design and construction management, and other related technical and professional services. 

You manage total project delivery for assigned major multi-year, multi-discipline construction and renovation projects for municipal building and/or landscape architectural projects.  

You are responsible for: all phases of concurrent project delivery from project inception through consultant selection, pre-design, detailed design, contract documentation, tendering, award, construction, testing, commissioning, turnover to Client and Operating Division and warranty inspection; participating in project identification, prioritization, planning, public consultation and risk management; coordinating the environmental site assessment process and other studies and all stages of the project lifecycle; monitoring, tracking and reporting on project status; approving all project expenditures; and contributing to the review/development of department standards. 

You also provide expert, technical advice and manage project delivery for:

  • assigned capital works or renewal projects for the construction of new facilities, additions, major renovations and/or significant new building functionality and use (including community centres, arenas, swimming pools, major recreation complexes, fire stations, libraries, archives, municipal ward yards, transit maintenance facilities, paramedic stations, administration buildings, heritage and cultural facilities), etc.,

You have a good working understanding of all construction industries, including engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural practices.
