ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Campus and Facilities Operations Provides leadership and direction to the Facilities Services team to ensure the effective operation, maintenance, and upkeep of campus buildings and grounds. Ensures facilities services are integrated, responsive, and delivered to a high standard of quality. Identifies service delivery gaps and develops strategies to address operational and customer needs. Implements initiatives to reduce operating costs while maintaining service quality. Conducts regular building inspections to assess workmanship, materials, equipment, and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements. Monitors maintenance activities to ensure service requests are completed effectively and expected outcomes are achieved. Develops, administers, and manages facilities service contracts (e.g., janitorial services, confidential waste disposal), ensuring service levels, performance standards, and budgets are met. Reviews service contracts to identify operational efficiencies, improvement opportunities, and potential cost savings. Ensures building and grounds documentation is maintained and updated to reflect modifications and changes. Responds effectively to major building system failures, life safety incidents, property damage, and other urgent facilities-related issues. Develops and maintains operational protocols and conducts regular reviews to mitigate risk and ensure uninterrupted campus operations. Ensures facilities comply with applicable codes, regulations, bylaws, University policies, and departmental procedures. Liaises with local authorities and regulatory agencies regarding compliance matters and facilities systems connected to municipal infrastructure. People Management Provides leadership, coaching, mentorship, and guidance to staff, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Establishes team and individual goals, monitors progress, and ensures alignment with departmental objectives. Ensures staff receive appropriate safety, technical, and operational training to perform their responsibilities effectively. Promotes a collaborative and customer-focused team environment that supports problem-solving and service excellence. Administers collective agreement provisions in consultation with Human Resources, including hiring, performance management, discipline, overtime, leaves, and grievance-related matters. Develops and implements recruitment, retention, onboarding, and staff development strategies to attract and retain qualified employees. Monitors employee performance and engagement, utilizing coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities to enhance effectiveness and growth. Administration Develops and implements strategic and operational plans and budgets for assigned areas in consultation with the Director, Facilities Services. Contributes to departmental strategic planning, including energy conservation initiatives, capital renewal planning, and identification of required system and equipment upgrades. Participates in the development, implementation, and administration of departmental policies, procedures, and operational standards. Represents the Department and/or the University on committees and working groups as assigned, including occupational health and safety committees. Maintains professional knowledge and expertise by reviewing industry developments, attending training and conferences, and maintaining relevant certifications and memberships. Assumes responsibilities of other Facilities Services management positions as required to support departmental operations. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director, Facilities Services. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Demonstrated ability to organize the work of a department; plan, schedule, direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of employees; oversee the work of trade contractors. Knowledge of building maintenance, custodial maintenance, fire protection systems and programs, safety and security programs, waste management, and recycling programs. Strong mentorship/training skills. Exceptional customer service focus. Personal style that builds a service-oriented team. Considerable knowledge of construction and maintenance trades, municipal bylaws, Worksafe BC regulations, and Building and Fire Codes. Demonstrated ability to interpret drawings and specifications for work related to building and maintenance trades. Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage budgets. Reporting to the Director of DTO and Cybersecurity, Digital Technology Services, (DTS) and a part of the Associate Vice President (AVP) DTS leadership team, the Manager, Cybersecurity Operations leads the cybersecurity team that provides security operations, incident response, and security controls to digital solutions across the university.

This role will have the opportunity to influence and drive lasting efforts in the University’s digital transformation, with significant student and employee impact through the management and monitoring of a robust cybersecurity program and development of policies relating to digital solutions. In close alignment with university wide strategy, critical components of this position include updates to the Cybersecurity strategy, risk management framework, vulnerability management program, Cybersecurity protection, Cybersecurity access controls, Cybersecurity detection and incident response plan. The role requires a strong focus on building and maintaining relationships both across the CapU community and externally with sector colleagues and vendors.

 

Job Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In consultation with the Director, DTO and Cybersecurity, plans, implements, and manages security controls, operations, and response activities guided by cybersecurity frameworks, critical security controls, and the National Cybersecurity Assessment (NCA) framework.
  • Develops and maintains cybersecurity training materials and manages role-based cybersecurity training programs. Monitors and reports on cybersecurity training compliance across the university community.
  • Conducts follow-up with university community members who are not compliant with training requirements, including managing refresher training programs.
  • Proactively contributes cybersecurity expertise to technical assessments for all digital solutions being considered within the digital ecosystem. This includes providing security requirements and conducting cybersecurity evaluations for RFP processes.
  • Develops and manages the cybersecurity components of technical assessments.
  • Leads and coordinates responses to cybersecurity alerts and incidents, including the implementation, maintenance, and review of cybersecurity incident response plans.
  • Identifies and selects appropriate cybersecurity monitoring tools to ensure comprehensive security coverage across the digital ecosystem.
  • Proactively monitors the digital ecosystem using industry-standard tools to detect malware, suspicious activity, and security breaches across networks, services, and applications.
  • Updates cybersecurity processes and tools to continuously improve the program. Collaborates closely with cybersecurity program managers to ensure cybersecurity and DTS policies, guidelines, and controls are reviewed and maintained annually.
  • Identifies, manages, and responds to security breaches, coordinating with DTS leadership to ensure appropriate resources and communication plans are in place.
  • Manages and follows up on risks identified through security operations, training, and technical assessments to ensure risks are mitigated and resolved.
  • Analyzes, investigates, and evaluates emerging cybersecurity technologies, software trends, and product roadmaps to assess impacts on the DTS roadmap.
  • Builds and maintains working relationships and partnerships across the university community and broader sector, providing expert advice on committees, initiatives, and external communities of practice.
  • Manages vendor relationships, including the development of RFPs, evaluation of proposals, and oversight of vendor performance, support agreements, and licensing.
  • Contributes to team development through mentorship and knowledge sharing to support the growth of cybersecurity skills and expertise within the team.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading a cybersecurity program.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of cybersecurity processes, tools, and procedures, including policies and establishing governance structures.
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Industry relevant designations such as CISSP, CISA, CRISC, ITIL, TOGAF.
  • Experience with the ITIL framework and ITSM best practices, tools, and techniques; ITIL certification is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Implements the necessary controls to monitor and identify operational risks, while also overseeing quality assurance, compliance and efficiency. Ensures operational compliance with Institute policies, processes and collective agreements, industry best practices, and provincial and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures the School’s leadership team is kept apprised of operational matters that could impact achievement of the School’s goals. Conducts analysis, prepares various reports and delivers presentations on achievements, challenges and emerging issues.
  • Supports the School’s communications and marketing, including all related documents, publications and reports. Ensures staff, students, and key partners have ready access to important information, services, and outreach activities.
  • Leads and/or contributes expertise to School initiatives and special assignments in support of school and Institute goals. Also represents the School on committees and task groups.
  • Liaises and communicates with external partners on contracts, agreements, reporting and other operational matters.
  • Researches and maintains awareness of emerging trends and best practices, identifying opportunities to enhance operational functions and to support achievement of the School’s goals.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business with a focus on operations, human resources and business management
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience at progressive levels of responsibility in operations, human resources and project management, preferably in a post-secondary setting.
  • Advanced knowledge of operational management
  • Advanced planning skills, with ability to facilitate development of operational and capital plans and related budgets.
  • Solid project management skills with demonstrated ability to lead operational improvement initiatives
  • Advanced business acumen with ability to exercise sound and critical judgment and make operational decisions on a day-to-day basis

This position is responsible for assessing, responding, and addressing student-related situations that have the potential to adversely impact the BCIT community. The incumbent will manage the response to students with varying degrees of distress which impact their academic pursuits. The incumbent implements the operational activities of the Institution-wide Early Assist program and coordinates the appropriate communication and response.

The incumbent supports the student code of conduct in accordance with Institute policies and procedures in a consistent and equitable manner, including investigating alleged Student Code of Conduct violations. The incumbent also makes policy and procedural recommendations and ensures stakeholders are knowledgeable and trained in matters that impact student success. The incumbent develops and delivers training materials to the campus community regarding student academic and non-academic behaviours.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establishes protocols and procedures for early identification and response to students in distress. This includes coordinating with staff from all areas of the Student Services division to access services to support students who are having difficulties in academic, administrative, economic, family relationships, health, physical, psychological and social adjustment issues.

  • Coordinates the Early Assist Program, including setting up training, assisting with developing materials, assessing and handling Early Assist Response activities.
  • Reviews, assesses, and allocates Early Assist Reports.
  • Maintains centralized reporting database for student case management.
  • Provides guidance and consultation for BCIT employees regarding student case management services.
  • Conducts investigations and establishes procedures and forums for conducting investigations and hearings for allegations of non-academic student misconduct.
  • Reviews and assesses incident reports and enacts appropriate response protocols in partnership with Safety, Security and Emergency Management department.

The Opportunity

As we continue to invest in our fleet and infrastructure, the Fleet Project Management Office (FPMO) plays a critical role in ensuring our vessels are safe, reliable, and continually improved to meet future needs. We are seeking a Project Coordinator to join our dynamic and collaborative team.

 

As a Project Coordinator, you lead low complexity vessel projects from start to finish—planning, execution, monitoring, and closure. These projects may include vessel refits, dry-dockings, capital upgrades, conversions, or repairs. You work under the guidance of a Senior Project Manager and support more complex vessel projects by assisting Project Managers ensuring the Project Team delivers the defined project scope and deliverables within budget, on schedule, at the required level of quality, and within the acceptable level of health, safety, security and environmental risk. Typical project assignments may include refit, dry-docking, capital modifications, conversions, emergent repairs or improvements to vessels.

 

This is a unique opportunity for someone who is early in their project management career and wants to grow within a structured, high-impact organization while being involved in meaningful, hands-on project work.

 

The role

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, Fleet Project Management Office, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Acting as a single point authority in relation to internal and external stakeholders, with respect to the projects assigned;
  • Developing and executing project plans according to established FPMO methodology;
  • Liaising and executing contract management processes related to assigned projects;
  • Liaising and executing project change management and provide impact analysis to Project Owners;
  • Ensuring proper closing of projects, including the capturing and dissemination of lessons learned;
  • Assisting Project Owners and Project Managers in developing preliminary and detailed Business Cases;
  • Providing project reports and updates to both internal and external stakeholders in the approved format and frequency;
  • Creating and maintaining collaborative working relationships with all key project stakeholders, both internal and external;
  • Administering and following applicable BCFS Fleet Regulations, Health, Safety, Security, Environmental policies and all applicable Regulatory and legal provisions;
  • Ensuring value, engineering analysis, feasibility and safety/security/environmental studies are conducted when required;
  • Working with the Project Team and Owners to develop project plans, including but not limited to: project requirement gathering, specifications, WBS, budget preparation, cash flow forecast, vessel and project schedule, risk plan, resource allocation plan, procurement plan, quality plan and communication plans;
  • Organizing and chairing meetings with Project Owners, managers, designers, estimators, contractors, personnel, as well as administering facilities and assets;
  • Travelling as required to ensure proper planning, control, management and execution of projects;

What you bring to the team

  • Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institute
  • Training in Project Management Principles and Knowledge areas and working towards Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification considered an asset
  • A Marine Engineering Certificate of Competency (Steam or Motor) desirable but not essential; continued proficiency endorsement may be considered
  • 2+ years of experience supporting multi-faceted projects, preferably within a shipbuilding, ship repair or industrial marine operations environment

Additional information

The target salary range: $83,500 - $104,300 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
