  • Perform foot and mobile patrols inside and outside the facility.

  • Operate city-owned vehicle during assigned patrols of City.
  • Respond to complaints received from residents, Council members and staff related to parking infractions and regulations ensuring maximum effectiveness in conflict resolution.
  • Assist other Parking Enforcement Officers with inquiries to meet service demands within established timelines; escalate unresolved matters requiring management’s attention and/or other stakeholder involvement; educate and provide information to members of the public and staff concerning the traffic by-laws and policies for the City.
  • Direct and co-ordinate the removal of vehicles by the City’s towing contractors in accordance with the traffic by-laws and the City's contract.
  • Prepare and submit occurrence reports to supervisory staff and where necessary provide situational awareness in response to Councillor or public inquiries.
  • Responsible for the proper care and/or control of vehicle, computer equipment, uniform and other issued equipment in accordance with corporate policies and departmental standards.

  • This position works 10.5 hour shifts to provide service to the community 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Availability is required across all shifts (days, afternoons, nights).

Skills and Qualifications

  • Graduate of Law Enforcement, Security, Police Foundations, Municipal Law Enforcement or other Enforcement related program at a Community College or University is a minimum requirement. 
  • 1-2 years Parking Enforcement ticket issuance or administration experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the City's Parking enforcement by-laws, Administrative Penalty by-law and Provincial Offences Act, is required.
  • Work experience with electronic Administrative Penalty Notices and other parking enforcement handheld technology, vehicle License Plate Recognition/Digital Chalking, INFOR is an asset.
  • Excellent oral communication skills essential with demonstrated ability to resolve disputes in a manner which supports our client driven integrated service delivery mandate.
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively with members of the public, external agencies, elected officials and other city staff; tact and diplomacy to competently handle confrontational situations.
  • Be a results-oriented individual who strives for continuous improvement that encourages simplifications.

What will I be doing?

  • Ability to effectively represent GO Transit when communicating with the media in the event of a serious collision or incident.

Location: Hamilton, ON

Pay Rate: $ 20.50 an hour.

Shift: Monday to Friday 0700-1500 hrs

SUMMARY

Maintains security and safety of people and property in assigned facility. Observes and reports activities and incidents. Duties will include supervising the use of wand and metal detectors, service enhancement, and training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Handling front desk is a major part of this role along with monitoring and reviewing CCTV cameras.
  • Schedule and train Security Guards ensuring all posts are covered weekly and the guards are trainer per site requirement. 
  • Interact effectively across diverse cultures.
  • Monitor traffic flow of checkpoints and recommend staffing adjustments as necessary.
  • Follow proper procedure for all matters requiring escalation.
  • Conduct foot patrols checking guard posts, doors, windows, data rooms, maintenance areas etc.
  • Collect shift activity reports and turn in to District Manager for review.
  • Ensure all posts are properly staffed.
  • Conduct spot remediation training for Security Guards when needed.
  • Relieve Security Guards for break/lunch
  • Respond to escalations including all medical incidents.
  • Escalate issues and/or violations to the District Manager.
  • Access control provisions, screening visitors and ensuring visitors follow security protocols.
  • Document and inform District Manager of Security Guards who are not meeting the SOP standards.
  • Required to know, follow, and enforce safe work practices, and to be aware of company policies and procedures related to job safety, including safety rules and regulations. Employees are required to notify superiors upon becoming aware of unsafe working conditions.
  • Ensure all functions, duties or tasks are to be carried out in an honest, ethical and professional manner, and to be performed in conformance with applicable company policies and procedures. In the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of company policies and procedures, employees are required to request clarification or explanations from superiors or authorized company representative.

MINIMUM HIRING STANDARDS:

  • Security Supervisor experience (2.5 yrs minimum)
  • At least 1 year of experience handling front desk and customer service.
  • Experience scheduling guards would be preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation (public or private).
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Post Secondary education in a related field is an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform access control provision duties during strike coverage.
  • Ensure conflicts are mitigated and responded to.
  • Maintain security of perimeter and ensure management can get access to the site.
  • Deter trespassers from the site, ensuring picketers are able to protest peacefully.
  • Monitor and respond to any and all disputes, de-escalate situations and ensure both parties are safe.
  • Protect client assets, property and people.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Valid Ontario Security License
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
