Fleet Services is looking for self-motivated Automotive Service Technicians who can provide excellent service to our clients. You’ll want to be part of our stable, safe and shift work environment – right here in Edmonton.
With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
- Diagnose problems and recommend and perform corrective action, provide field service for down equipment as required at various City work sites
- Ensure all safety and environmental precautions are adhered to
- Use diagnostic programs to identify problems and troubleshoot fleet issues
- Perform repairs and overhauls on various components including engines, brakes, transmission, differentials, axles, hydraulic controls, pumps, compressors and electrical components
- Install and maintain vehicle mounted equipment
- Inspect and follow-up on work performed by the servicing staff to ensure adherence to quality standards and time constraints
- Inspect and test vehicles and equipment and report defects as required
- Perform mechanical brake inspections on private vehicles as requested by the client
- Complete related records and documents
- Perform preventive maintenance; check brakes, lights, doors, steering gear and general motor conditions
- Complete the required administrative procedures and forms to ensure proper recording and communication of work
- Enter work order data into Fleet Management System (M5) and check warranty related repair information
- Use Fleet Management System (M5) software to perform data entry and time entry
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Recognized Journeyman certificate in the trade of Automotive Service Technician
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent); Class 3 with Air Brake endorsement is preferred
- Hire is dependent upon an Enhanced Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a City Driver's permit and to be licensed by the Province of Alberta to do Commercial Vehicle Inspections (CVIP)
- Capable of competently using vehicle diagnostic computer programs
- Able to accurately enter data and information into a computer (AssetWorks M5 experience is an asset)
- Experience with and the ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, floor hoists and diagnostic equipment (electrical, hydraulic), etc.
- Committed to safety using occupational health and safety and environmental standards and procedures
- Capable of wearing and passing a respirator fit test
- Able to deliver service in a timely manner with challenges such as billing, materials supply and vendor support
- Experience with automotive electrical systems is an asset
- Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills
- Able to communicate, understand, read and write in English at a level needed to meet job-related task and safety requirements
- Capable of passing a job-related physical abilities evaluation and a City medical examination
