Bridge Worker II / Truck Driver III Full-time Job

As a Bridge Worker II during the Summer Season (approximately April to October), you will: 

• Work on structural steel, concrete, or timber components of bridges, completing bridge washing, cleaning, sandblasting, painting and sealing activities 
• Operate and maintain equipment such as jackhammers, drills, chainsaws, tampers, sand blasters and compressors 
• Operate the bridge inspection vehicle while performing inspections 
• Assist in worksite setup, maintenance and cleanup activities including scaffolding construction and dismantling, barricade locating and equipment locating 
• Load and unload materials 
• Perform flagging duties 
• Provide lead hand supervisory guidance for work involving bridge maintenance and repair 
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned 

As a Truck Driver III in the Southwest District during the Winter Season (approximately October to April), you will: 

• Operate a tandem or single-axle sand/plow while engaged in snow and ice control
• Load and unload materials 
• Perform routine maintenance duties, such as cleaning the truck box and worksite, and performing routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment 
• Be aware of obstacles adjacent to the road to avoid damage to 
• Public Property when operating plow, including snow off the wing Inform the lead hand of any on-the-road issues with equipment or observed accident or property damage 
• General labour including brushing, manual sidewalk cleaning, sanding, snow shoveling, pothole repairs, manually spread sand on icy areas and other snow and ice-related duties 
• All work is to be performed in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso Environmental Program - ISO 14001

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 8 
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in operating tandem or single axle sander/plow while engaged in snow and ice control, or an equivalent combination of training and experience 
• Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible experience in bridge maintenance including repair of road bridges, open space bridges and other timber structures 
• Valid Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Brakes Endorsement (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's Permit is a requirement of this position 
• Ability to drive a truck in the designated weight range 
• Ability to assign and supervise work of subordinates 
• Ability to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods in confined areas, scaffolding and working under variable weather conditions 
• Ability to operate tools, equipment and materials of the position 
• Ability to understand and execute written and oral instructions 
• Knowledge of relevant occupational hazards and safety precautions 
• Sufficient strength and agility to perform work assigned

Hours of Work: 

• Winter- 40 hours a week, 24 hour 7 day coverage, including evenings and weekends. 
• Summer- 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, evening and weekend work may be required. 

Salary: 

• Bridge Worker II: $33.038 (Hourly) or $68,983.340 (Annually)
• Truck Driver III: $32.036(Hourly); $66,891.170 (Annually)
