Job Details

Responsible for the instruction of the Driver Competencies curriculum to selected Driver Interns on a daily basis. The Driver Trainer will be responsible for teaching, coaching and mentoring the candidate evaluating performance progress safety awareness.

How You’ll Help

  • Act as a trainer, coach and mentor to Driver candidates selected for the Driver Internship program
  • Teach and instruct candidates on the Driver Core Competencies to master the competencies in order for the Driver Candidate can operate safely and independently on public roads and highways
  • Providing coaching and instruction on the “Rules of the Road” to each Driver candidate ensuring the candidates fully understands the regulatory requirements for documentation required to operate under a Class 1/Commercial Drivers License (CDL
  • Ensure the Driver Candidate can safely and effectively operate the electronic systems part of the vehicle including tractors and trailers, dock doors, security systems at terminals 
  • Provide program performance reporting to internal stakeholders

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Minimum Secondary School completion and completion of all required safety related programs (i.e.: Winter Driving, Air Brakes, Hazardous Loads).
  • An alternate suitable combination of education and experience may also be considered. 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ driving experience and 2-years as a Driver Instructor in the transportation industry or a combination with a strong safety record.

Operations Supervisor Full-time Job

Job Details

Supervise overall dock operations, including day to day processes and procedures, Drivers, and Dock Workers, to ensure safety and optimal dock performance.

How You’ll Help: 

  • Provide daily guidance and motivation to Dock Workers (employees and agency workers), Administration staff and Drivers (company and broker drivers) to ensure achievement of operational objectives for the terminal. 
  • Escalates issues of individual poor performance, inappropriate behaviour, absenteeism, etc. to the Regional Manager. 
  • Communicate monthly performance stats to the team to help measure, develop and improve operational performance.
  • Maintain policies and procedures and ensure compliance with federal and provincial transportation, safety, and employment legislation.
  • Ensure all incidents (personal injuries, transportation collisions, spills, near misses, etc.) are promptly reported, documented, an investigation is initiated and corrective/preventative measures are implemented.
  • Hold effective, weekly tailgate meetings and ensure safety issues are addressed.
  • Works with the team and others, internal and external to the terminal, to resolve roadblocks to achievement of daily operational objectives.
  • Ensure the schedule for the terminal is followed. 
  • Work with the Terminal Manager to track monthly performance stats for the dock.
  • Other duties as required

Your Skills and Experience: 

  • Post secondary education, preferably in operations, logistics, or business
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum of five years experience in the transportation industry
  • Previous leadership experience and/or experience in the transportation industry are strong assets
  • Strong leadership skills specifically the ability to motivate and drive engagement to achieve objectives, facilitate conflict resolution, and to provide training
  • Advanced communication skills, particularly verbal

Responsible for preventative maintenance, pre-inspection maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on the company’s fleet of trucks in accordance with the applicable level of training and apprenticeship.

How You’ll Help

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of trucks according to work orders and in keeping with level of training/apprenticeship (see below)
  • Maintaining safe shop environment (may include snow removal from the roof, de-icing, washing vehicles, sweeping, etc. 
  • Journeyperson Technicians independently repair and maintain trucks (see above) and provide general direction, guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians.     
  • Maintenance and repair of truck bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hubcaps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc. 
  • Documentation of all findings and work done.
  • Lead Journeyperson Technicians provide work direction for all team members and act as escalation point for complex maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians 
  • Work independently to complete diagnostic, service, repair, and maintain trucks.
  • Maintain and repair truck bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hubcaps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc. 
  • Document and update Service Supervisor/Service Manager on completion time changes, all findings, work done and potential future service requirements.

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Post-secondary training in truck repair and/or completion of truck technician certificate course
  • Preference given to applicants with Red Seal journeyperson certification
  • Additional training in tire repairs and/or refrigeration will be considered an asset 
  • CVIP, an asset
  • Candidates enrolled in trailer repair apprenticeship may also be considered.
  • Valid Class 1 license also considered an asset
  • Previous work experience in an industrial environment, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • Previous experience and qualification to perform Safety inspections is required in this position. 
  • Physically fit and able to lift, move, reach, bend, walk, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch for extended period of time
  • Ability to work in tight spaces
  • Strong knowledge of transportation industry’s rules and regulations regarding transport trucks, trailers, and components
