As a concrete Leader II, you will act as a supervisor in charge of a dedicated crew engaged in performing many differing aspects of the sidewalk maintenance programs. The incumbent is responsible for the work performed by the members of the crew, ensuring compliance to all methods, procedures with respect to the task being performed.
Duties will include:
- Directing and supervising staff daily in the field; participates with the Roadways Maintenance Supervisor, in evaluating staff, as well as providing feedback and effective recommendations into the disciplinary process of subordinates
- Provides employee verbal performance management
- Coaching and mentoring field staff in a way that creates a culture for growth and development
- Evaluating the current capabilities and productivity of individual crew members and identifying training and development needs
- Promoting a safe work environment
- Providing technical support for concrete maintenance repairs
- Ensuring all staff are trained on all of the tasks and equipment that they are asked to use to perform their work
- Field level monitoring and holding employees accountable for the performance of work performed, providing feedback as required
- Knowledge of restoration as required by the City’s Design and Construction Standards
- Resource coordination with Lifecycle Management, IIS to ensure inquiries and locations are completed according to our priority matrix
- Setting performance expectations and escalating to Supervisor
- Conducting and attending regular staff meetings, ensuring safety and cultural commitments are addressed, as well as section, work and culture expectations
- Day to day crew leadership in a variety of related duties including but not limited to attendance, time reporting, coaching, and assisting in the management of equipment and tools
- Leads crew to various job sites in relation to predetermined schedules, assesses field conditions upon arrival, directs the setup of equipment and people power and initiates appropriate traffic control and related safety measures as required
- Participates in equipment operations, labouring activities etc, as required
- Ensuring appropriate and effective delivery of work, taking into consideration time, quality, cost/budget
- Ensuring appropriate OSCAM and other required permits are in place prior starting projects
- Overseeing the training, scheduling and deployment of personnel to accomplish the work in compliance with OH&S Alberta, City OH&S Safety and Health standard, ENVISO program and City Standards Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Responding to worksite incidents and reporting of incidents
- Rendering professional advice, opinions, assistance and services to the Program Supervisor,- District Inspectors and Roadway Maintenance Supervisors as required
- Working with the supervisor- to define and carry out the work plan for the area/district
- Potentially carry out low level purchasing by the use of purchase order or Corporate Procurement card
- Implement robust and proactive plans to address inquiries and requests, working closely with the District to help address 311 inquires, Council or Mayor’s office inquiries and inter-departmental requests
- Using various software programs including, but not limited to: LMS, SDMS, Google Suite, SAP, GPS, ARCGIS etc.
- Reporting the completion of work based on predetermined work plans through various tracking methods
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- Grade 12 supplemented by supervisory experience/training
- A minimum of 3 years experience with Roadway Maintenance including operation of all vehicles and associated equipment is required or equivalent
- Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in roadway and sidewalk maintenance and of the relevant occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Experience planning, scheduling, assigning and supervising the work of subordinates
- Current Ground Disturbance certification
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions to communicate orally and in writing and maintain simple records
- Experience leading crews, employee mentoring and training
- Good written and oral communication, conflict resolution and building common understanding
- Proficiency in computer software including SAP and Google suite
- Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the work of the class
- Valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with Air Brake endorsement (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).Obtaining and maintain a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
