The Assessment and Taxation branch plays a very important role in the City of Edmonton’s financial sustainability by annually assessing all properties in the city and collecting in excess of 55% of the annual operating revenue that is required to fund municipal infrastructure, services and programs.
The Drafting Technician I provides drafting services for the Assessment and Taxation Branch, which is critical to supporting the development of fair and accurate property assessments. The majority of duties involves creating or converting residential and non-residential building drawings using various reference sources. This position also participates in annual initiatives related to process improvements.
With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
- Interpret and convert blueprints/plans to APEX sketch building drawings for residential property assessment purposes
- Interpret and convert blueprints/plans to APEX sketch building drawings for non-residential property assessment purposes (e.g. commercial, industrial, retail, special purpose, etc.)
- Respond to and prioritize incoming work from queues
- Manage cyclical increases to regular work volumes
- Update existing drawings of buildings under construction at various stages, up to 100% complete.
- Document current drafting practices
- Initiate and complete improvements to work manuals or processes, including documentation
- Test and/or upgrade TACS modules as they relate to Apex software
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Completion of a two (2) year Architectural Technology or Interior Design Technology diploma from a recognized institute of technology or educational equivalent
- Two (2) years in architectural residential drafting experience or two (2) years of progressively responsible drafting experience
- Ability to use drafting software (e.g. AutoCad, Revit, Apex, etc.)
- Knowledge of construction procedures and surveying practices
- Ability to understand detailed plans and specifications
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments
- Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively, orally and in writing
- Familiarity with Google Workspace is an asset
