Job Profile
Under supervision and direction, the Instructor Guard provides aquatic instruction, performs lifeguarding duties, provides a safe and enjoyable environment and provides facility support for various aquatic programs.
As the Instructor Guard you will:
- Instruct Lifesaving Society and Learn to Swim programs.
- Lifeguard Public Swim and Aquatic programs.
- Perform daily facility maintenance duties.
Your education and qualifications include:
- Grade 11 or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
- Ability to instruct various aquatic programs as assigned.
- Ability to organize and maintain records with ability to use computer related systems.
- Ability to act quickly and calmly in urgent situations.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
- Ability and willingness to take additional related training as assigned or required.
- Must be available to work varying shifts including evenings/weekends.
- Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques employed in water safety and life-saving activities.
- Manitoba Fitness Council certifications for Group; Resistance; Older Adults; Aqua Fitness would be an asset.
- NCCP certification for Water Polo; Synchronized Swimming; Diving would be an asset.
Conditions of employment:
- National Lifeguard - Pool
- Swim for Life Instructor
- Lifesaving Instructor
- Standard First Aid Certificate (St John Ambulance, Red Cross, Criti-Care or Aquatic Emergency Care).
- CPR Level C / AED Certificate (St. John’s Ambulance, Red Cross, Criti-Care or Aquatic Emergency Care). Renewed annually.
- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
- A Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector) satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate(s), at their expense. To obtain Police Information Check information please visit www.winnipeg.ca/police.
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
