•    Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as knowledge in Infection Control Practices.
•    Effective human relation skills and demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.

To support these goals, Amazon is seeking an experienced and innovative Onsite Medical Representative (OMR) to join our team. In this position, you will work closely with the WHS site manager, Wellness Specialists (WSs) and the WHS specialist. You will be required to independently evaluate and provide first aid (e.g., for musculoskeletal injuries), advise Amazon Associates (AAs) on occupational and non-occupational injuries, have great verbal communication skills, be able to connect with AAs, as well as, Amazon Managers, within the limits of your professional code and training where applicable. You should enjoy learning and applying your knowledge about health & wellness to provide care for AAs on a daily basis. You will refer care to outside medical providers as needed, and learn about provincial and federal regulations and risk analysis. Practical ergonomics experience is advantageous. However, ergonomics topics will also be covered in ongoing training.

The OMR will function as a part of the larger team onsite, helping to provide assistance with all first aid needs and support operations as needed. This includes greeting all new hires for the site, either within a setting at New Hire Orientation or through one-on-one interaction. The OMR will also participate, as needed, in incident investigations and weekly case management review meetings.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide triage, prompt first aid within the scope of your training, and/or referral to outside medical providers, if indicated
- Minimize the AA risk of injury through awareness, education and proactive engagement
- Maintain all records of care provided to AAs
- Develop a first aid care plan for AAs recovering from an injury, focused on injury improvement, including self-care instructions as needed
- Manage the workers’ compensation and return to work process for AAs with work related injuries
- Provide daily activity logs and end of shift reports
- Spend frequent time on the warehouse floor to interact and engage with AAs and managers to coach on observed at-risk work habits
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment
- Monitor and ensure appropriate medical supply inventory is maintained
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc tasks as assigned
- Willing to be trained to teach First Aid/CPR/AED certification classes
- Work flexible shifts which could include days, nights, and/or weekends
- Communicate effectively

- Multitask and have exceptional time management skills

About the Opportunity

  • Undertake continuous learning through courses, such as community college and university courses, through on-the-job initiatives and highly developed networking and professional liaison. Attend conferences and seminars and read professional journals to learn about best practices and emerging trends in health and safety as needed.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of Maple Leaf Food’s Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programs.  This includes but is not limited to assisting in the development of safe work procedures, training, assisting in claims management, investigations, workplace inspections and training coordination.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Identification and reduction of Health and Safety risks and hazards
  • Investigation into incidents and help to provide corrective actions with timelines
  • Maintaining supply and inventory of health and safety equipment and supplies
  • Maintain SDS (Safety Data Sheet) binder plant wide based on chemical inventory
  • Maintain uniform inventory through third party
  • Provide first aid as required and maintain the plant wide first aid kits with supplies
  • Support the plant in the emergency evacuation procedure and maintain the log
  • Maintain HSSE metrics and documentation with the ability to present this information to applicable parties
  • Design and deliver training programs for workers, management and Safety Committee members to comply with legislative requirements
  • Ensure documentation is logged and filed for quick reference
  • Maintain the HSSE Training Matrix, make recommendations on what training to complete and organize training with internal or external vendors for the applicable departments
  • Assist the JHSC with scheduling meetings, ensuring workplace inspections are completed and take minutes for distribution
  • Develop and construct Physical Demand Assessment (PDA), Machine specific lockout tagout procedure, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Safe Work Procedures (SWP) identifying the basic job steps and tasks, their associated hazards and risks, developing safe operating procedures and hazard controls
  • On the floor involvement with operations on the production floor, completing daily walk throughs, inspections and H&S initiatives
  • Support the Health & Safety department and any other duties as assigned by the department manager

What You’ll Bring:

  • Post-secondary education in Health & Safety
  • Knowledge of health and safety laws and regulations
  • 1-3 years of experience in Health & Safety
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory training for all personnel working onsite
  • Experience with WSIB Claims
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and processing environments
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organization and analytical skills
  • Must be extremely organized and a self-starter, able to work with limited supervision
  • First Aid Certification would be an asset
