About the Opportunity
• Performs initial and ongoing assessment of the residents’ needs and develops, revises and implements the resident care profiles
• Orders, administer, and stores medications and treatments in compliance with the policies of the facility, pharmacy and standards of the College of Nurses
• Adopts the legislation of the RHRA and enforces compliance mandates under the direction of the Director of care
• Ability to manage the department in the absence of the Supervisor or Manager in areas such as staffing, equipment breakdown, supply ordering and receiving
• Directs, assigns and evaluates the work of personal support attendants
• Assists in the orientation of the resident, family and nursing staff;
• Documents and investigates resident/staff incidents and complaints and follows up with the Supervisor or Manager promptly
• Adheres to the Employee Standards and ORCA Code of Ethics and promotes safety culture by continuously working safely including but not limited to identifying and reporting hazards, following safe work practices and procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, supporting others to work safely and completing safety education
About You
In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:
• A Diploma in Practical Nursing and are currently registered as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Passion for working with seniors and have experience working with the elderly in a seniors’ living or long-term care environment

The Medical Laboratory & Stem Cell Services team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by operating several programs that support better outcomes for patients living with the many diseases and disorders that can be treated with stem cell transplants such as leukemia, lymphoma, aplastic anemia, and inherited immune and metabolic disorders.
Formula for success
- Using your superb people and interpersonal skills, you will work collaboratively with Cord Blood Bank (CBB) staff to ensure promotion, development and maintenance of an environment of continuous quality improvement in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards; and customer satisfaction.
- Utilizing your ability to be sensitive, discreet, and confidential, you will perform maternal interviews and assess responses to questions to assess donor suitability for cord blood donation including:
o informed consent.
o medical history/health assessment questionnaire.
o hospital medical chart review with associated assessment for cord blood suitability.
o phlebotomy to obtain maternal blood samples. - Applying your experience in phlebotomy, you will perform ex-utero umbilical cord blood collection as required.
- Harnessing your remarkable leadership skills, you will provide training, support and mentorship to the cord blood bank team and hospital customers.
Desired education and skills
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing of a recognized registered nursing program; and minimum of three to six years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.

- Knowledge of adult learning principles, developed skills in design, instruction or facilitation is an asset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- OPERATION STRATEGY
- Manage and develop procedures and processes to meet departmental goals and objectives.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
EDUCATION:
- Post-secondary degree in Health and Safety, Human Resources, Disability Management or related education and industry experience.
- Must hold or be eligible and able to obtain one of the following certifications within Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP); Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP).
- Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) is an asset.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 5-7 years health and safety experience preferably in both public and unionized environments.
- 5 years’ experience in a leadership capacity.
OR Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:
- Excellent knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, collective agreements and related legislation.
- Additional formal training and/or experience with the treatment, management and prevention of psychological and musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses and/or Ergonomics is preferred.

- Experience in municipal/public sector is an asset.
- Experience managing WSIB claims as a Schedule 2 employer is preferred.
