The Opportunity:

The incumbent will be responsible for the administration of first aid and subsequent treatment to injured or ill employees and will be responsible for WSIB/STD/LTD Case Management.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Manage and operate the Medical Centre and satellite First Aid Rooms, daily inspection, inventory control and cleanliness.
  • Attend to assessment and treatment of ill or injured employees / tend to emergency situations both in the Centre and on the production floor
  • Track all first aid incidents as required by Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Receive and log as required all medical or health professional documentation concerning employees
  • Liaise and communicate with all medical and health professionals providing care to employees if that care impacts employee’s capabilities
  • Act as the WSIB Program Administrator
    • File Form 7’s
    • Initiate the Return to Work program with the support of Operations and Reliability
    • Keep an up to date Modified Work Tracker to ensure workers are being accommodated appropriately and communicate with the appropriate Team Leaders/Group Leaders/Operations Leaders/Health and Safety if updates are required.
    • Review all accepted WSIB claims for potential of appeal, file appeals and ultimately present submissions in support of the appeal
  • Assess all potential new employees via pre-employment medicals and communicate findings if applicable to Human Resources and Health and Safety
  • Complete all required documentation for storage of health center records
  • Assess demographics of employees and health status of employees and provide no less than 6 health promotion strategies per year based on those demographics
  • Assess ergonomics of all plant areas and suggest possible changes to reduce the risk of injury to workers.
  • Other duties as required for H&S department

  • Supports our Wastewater pretreatment facility and environmental management programs including the Environmental Emergency management (E2) Plan and associated drills and activities.
  • Supporting chemical safety programs including Transport of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS, Hazardous Waste management and our Solid Waste and Food Waste diversion strategies.
  • Supervises the Security team and provides support on proximity software and site access control, supporting HR with creation of new badges and maintaining the proximity software WINPAK.

  • Assist and lead in the reduction of Health and Safety risks and hazards through continuous improvement projects

  • Develops and constructs Safe Work Procedures (SWP) identifying the basic job steps and tasks and their associated hazards and risks and develops safe operating procedures and hazard controls towards sustaining our OHS maturity and growth.

  • Review and monitor on-site Contractor OHS programs and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Respond to and provide support in accident response, including first aid and support proper investigation and follow up is completed.
  • Support emergency management activities including drills, tabletop exercises, evacuation support and respond to support the incident command structure in the event of an actual emergency.
  • Maintains content and data analysis of supporting software for the site programs under the purview of the department, including and not limited to SAP, iWarehouse, iNet, Alchemy Sistems, and other PPE or vendor specific platforms.
  • Maintain records and documentation for all programs under your purview.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 3-5 years of experience in progressively responsible H&S roles
  • Previous experience working supporting a large client group in a fast-paced environment within specified time frames is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential

About the Opportunity

• Performs initial and ongoing assessment of the residents’ needs and develops, revises and implements the resident care profiles

The Donor Centre team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services collecting donor blood in a safe manner to enable safe products which save lives every day.

 

In this role, you will assist in the collection of blood and blood products ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and all required documentation is carried out. You will play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.

Formula for success

  • Leveraging your ability to communicate effectively with donors, you will conduct registration and confidential screening to determine eligibility and build and promote a positive donor experience.   
  • Utilizing your superb people skills, you will provide donors with information, instruction, and advice on blood donation. 
  • Drawing on your knowledge and experience you will provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.
  • With your excellent interpersonal skills, you will work in a diverse team environment assisting in the collection of whole blood and/or apheresis blood components which save lives daily.
  • At mobile events within our communities, you will assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use.  

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required.
  • Two years of experience working as a nurse is considered an asset as is a certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others is an asset.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs. 
  • A second language is considered an asset to support a positive donor experience.

In this position, you will work closely with the WHS site manager, Wellness Specialists (WSs) and the WHS specialist. You will be required to independently evaluate and provide first aid (e.g., for musculoskeletal injuries), advise Amazon Associates (AAs) on occupational and non-occupational injuries, have great verbal communication skills, be able to connect with AAs, as well as, Amazon Managers, within the limits of your professional code and training where applicable. You should enjoy learning and applying your knowledge about health & wellness to provide care for AAs on a daily basis. You will refer care to outside medical providers as needed, and learn about provincial and federal regulations and risk analysis. Practical ergonomics experience is advantageous. However, ergonomics topics will also be covered in ongoing training.

The OMR will function as a part of the larger team onsite, helping to provide assistance with all first aid needs and support operations as needed. This includes greeting all new hires for the site, either within a setting at New Hire Orientation or through one-on-one interaction. - Spend frequent time on the warehouse floor to interact and engage with AAs and managers to coach on observed at-risk work habits
