Formula for success

- Drawing on your knowledge of safe transportation procedures and your attention to detail, you will conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working order, and accurately complete all required documentation.
- Leveraging your customer service skills, you will assist the collections team by greeting and helping donors book or rebook appointments as required.

- A willingness to learn procedures in a regulatory environment.

Working as part of a team, the Driver - Stores Worker performs a variety of logistics functions at VFRS Stores and HUSAR warehouses, including making deliveries, operating a forklift, cycle counting, receiving and issuing materials, maintaining records, working with little direct supervision, and other duties as assigned.

- Purchases materials from retail outlets as requested by customer using a p-card with a limit of $2000 per transaction;

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Completion of grade 12 or equivalency and sound related experience in the operation of a commercial vehicle and preferably some warehouse work, supplemented by clerical work, computer training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Class 3 B.C. Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement is required.
- Certification to operate forklift is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Main Purpose and Function
Engineering Services contributes to the overall City purpose by providing many services and public works facilities. These range from such fundamental services as water supply, sewerage, drainage, refuse removal, street access, and lighting, to regulatory functions such as traffic control, parking enforcement, transportation planning, and preservation of utility and communication corridors.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The Spare Driver in Collections is assigned to Automated/Semi-Automated Truck Driver work to collect curbside garbage and green bin material. Drivers are assigned to established routes/beats throughout the city and must be able to operate safely while providing excellent customer service to residents. Drivers are expected to exit the truck to tag or pick up knocked-over totes and be courteous and professional when sharing the lane with other drivers and service providers. When not assigned to curbside collection, Spare Drivers may be assigned to other Sanitation Services Branch specific work.
The Sanitation Services Branch functions 365 days/year, applicants must be willing and able to work shift work if operationally required. The Collections shift is from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Please note that training may be scheduled on weekends. Successful applicants’ availability must meet Branch expectations in order to continue employment with the Branch.
Functional and or physical assessment related to the bona fide position requirements may be required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Up to completion of high school and some laboring and truck driving experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Previous waste collection experience is desirable. Some knowledge of collections and/or recycling.
- Knowledge of safe work procedures.
- Sound knowledge of the tools, material and equipment used in the work.
- Some knowledge of the functions of the branch concerned and the established practices in carrying out the work.
- Ability to exercise some independence of judgment and action in the routine or simple aspects of the work.

Main Purpose and Function
The Equipment Operator III is responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment involved with stump grinding. Stump grinding operations is an important and necessary role that supports the continuation of the Urban Forest. Replacement of trees can only be facilitated by preparing sites through stump grinding. Position will report directly to the Superintendent of Urban Forestry and may involve the supervision of two or more subordinates.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates and services a large stump grinder. Two units are towable, and the other one is a mounted tow behind.
- Stump grinding will occur in parks and on streets, citywide.
- Operator is required to interpret and understand the Call-One packages of information. All work with machinery impacting underground requires a Call-One and an information package identifying underground utilities.
- Operator will be responsible for completion of VanTree work orders.
- Position is a physical job, and one that requires shoveling debris from truck, or trailer and/or shovel soil and debris from ground into a truck or trailer.
- Operator will be required to remove wood debris from sites as part of completion of the stump removal.
- Operator will be required to operate a chainsaw or reciprocating saw to sever large roots or cut stumps below grade
- Operator will be working in conjunction with hydrovac
- Performs related work as required
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Completion of grade 8 supplemented by experience in the operation of equipment such as heavy road rollers and related equipment is desirable
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of the methods and practices employed in the operation of heavy roller equipment.
- Working knowledge of the rules of safe operation and the precautions necessary to avoid accidents when operating such equipment.
- Some knowledge of the methods, practices and tools used in servicing and making adjustments to such equipment.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral instructions.
- Skill in the operation of medium sized construction equipment.
- Interpretation and understanding of the Call-One packages of information is preferred.
Driver’s License and Record Checks:
- Applicable Driver's License and endorsements as required by the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act.
