As a Painter I, you will prepare surfaces and apply protective and decorative coatings to buildings, furniture, equipment, machinery, etc. and paint signs. You may be assigned to oversee the work of helpers or apprentices as required. As a Painter, you will learn about all aspects of the trade, working with a variety of products as you perform painting and decorating services.

- Prepare surfaces by washing, steaming, removing old finishes, smoothing surfaces and filling cracks, nicks and holes
- Use of paint remover, blowtorch, sandblaster, wire brush, scraper as required to prepare surfaces
- Arrange and assemble ladders, scaffolding units, etc. and placing drop cloths to protect adjacent furniture, floors, etc. from splattering
- Select or prepare paints or stains and apply to various surfaces using brush, roller or spray equipment
- Cover walls and ceilings with decorative wallpaper or natural or synthetic fibers
- Clean equipment and work areas
- Apply special protective coatings
- Guidance for apprentices when required
- Communicate to Foreperson daily on the status of Work Orders Ensure that work orders are completed as scheduled by Foreperson(s) and meet the expectations set out in the business guidelines
- Abide by all Occupational Health and safety and Enviso regulations
- Learn about the different products used in our facilities
- Awareness of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
- Coordinate tasks with other trades and operations
- Strive to meet customers expectations, keep within estimated costs of projects, demonstrate a high quality of workmanship
- Ability to work in a public environment
- Perform related duties as required
Qualifications
- Certified Alberta Journeyman in the trade of Painter and Decorator
- 5 years of experience in related field is an asset
- Considerable knowledge of the properties of paint, lacquer and related finishes, correct proportions and proper techniques for mixing, blending and applying paints or finishes to wood, metal or other materials
- Possess form perception to be able to observe application of coatings for proper thickness, smoothness, quality and detect imperfections
- Possess spatial perception to be able to achieve proper spacing, balance and artistic effect when laying out and painting letters or designs
- Color acuity of a high degree to mix paints to obtain desired color, or to match exact shade of original color
- Manual dexterity to use hand and power tools, to operate spraying machines and for precise and agile movements when painting letters on signs, applying trim, etc.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties, specifically when dust, noise and various weather conditions exist
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to understand formulas and specifications Ability to gain an understanding of our procurement process
- Commitment to continual learning, teamwork work and providing excellent customer service
- Strength and stamina to work in a variety of positions for extended periods of time along with the ability to work at various heights
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade and the ability to work safely with a variety of equipment
- Current First Aid Certificate or the ability to obtain
