Under general supervision, the Maintenance Worker performs heavy cleaning and custodial duties, moves and sets up furniture and equipment on a routine basis and for special events.

 

Typical Duties:

 

The following illustrative tasks indicate the level of skill required, and the extent of responsibility involved in this job. They in no way limit the incumbent to the tasks indicated. Flexibility of the employee to perform a wide variety of functions is necessary in successfully fulfilling the requirements of this position. The degree to which each employee performs each of the following tasks listed below will vary according to where and when the employee is scheduled to work.

 

  1. cleans and scrubs floors and washrooms using appropriate equipment including automatic floor cleaning machines, electric buffers, mops and vacuum cleaners;
  2. performs cleaning and dusting at elevated heights, using ladder and lifting devices as required;
  3. sets up cleaning equipment for use; maintains cleaning equipment;
  4. reconditions floors, repairs and cleans grout, using appropriate equipment;
  5. performs routine and special room set ups which entails: following work orders, room diagrams and verbal instructions; moving and setting up of furniture and equipment according to plan and schedule; opens and locks doors to assigned rooms; may assisting setting out academic examination booklets;
  6. clears furniture and equipment as requested and stores in appropriate areas.
  7. disassembles/reassembles furniture for the purpose of moving;
  8. performs maintenance functions such as changing lights and adjustments to furniture and equipment;
  9. other related duties as required.

 

Minimum Requirements for Selection

 

Education:

 

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent; technical training is desirable.

 

Experience:

 

One year of related work experience, education may be substituted for experience.

 

Other:

 

Physical ability to perform required duties, including heavy lifting and pushing of furniture and equipment, considerable walking and stair climbing; ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written), ability to follow written instructions; awareness of building security and fire procedures; tact and diplomacy in dealing with others; ability to work at varying heights and to operate and use safety ladders and lifts. Develops timely schedules of the comprehensive job plans, ensuring the maximum use of maintenance manpower, availability of parts and minimized interruption to Production. The Planner must understand the concept of ’Doing the right work at the right time for the right reasons.’ The Planner is experienced and trained in planning and scheduling techniques, is a capable CMMS system and MS Office User and familiar with applying Standard Operating Procedures in his/her work. The Planner follows company policies, standards and guidelines as they apply to all activities.

The Planner is an experienced Maintenance Planning and Scheduling Specialist with at least 5 years of experience in applying proven Maintenance best practices in an industrial environment.  A journeyman's ticket, PMP and/or related technical diploma are preferred.

  • Ensure the work prioritization process is adhered to.
  • Review Work Requests for accuracy, duplication and convert to Work Orders.
  • Prioritize corrective work derived from preventive maintenance (PM) work orders (WO) with high priority.
  • Plan and schedule work requests originating in SAP that are not prioritized as an emergency or break-in work.
  • Develop comprehensive, thorough maintenance job plans that facilitate the safe and effective execution of work.
  • Determine the scope, general strategy (repair/replace) and coordination requirements of work.
  • Create a scheduling horizon that is at least 4 weeks.
  • Route non-emergency Work orders for approval at the correct organizational level against defined acceptance criteria based on the business risk.
  • Create, use and maintain plant history and other technical files to include information in current job plans to anticipate and avoid job delays.
  • Develop condition-based monitoring routes, load levels, and seed dates.
  • Review, update and optimize PM routes and bills of materials (BOMs) in SAP.
  • Maintain progress charting systems (Gantt charts, Flow diagrams) for the scheduling function.
  • Develop Work Order standard jobs for repetitive work.
  • Visit the site with the goal of increasing team productivity by removing all obstacles to executing the work safely, correctly and with minimum downtime and effort. Adopt the concept of eyes on the job and eyes on the parts.
  • Work with stores to ensure the availability of parts / materials to execute work.
  • Ensure the maximum use of maintenance manpower and minimize production disruptions.
  • Lead scheduling meetings where Maintenance interventions are synchronized with Production according to business needs.
  • Develop schedule loading and publish a 4-week horizon schedule with the understanding of manpower availability, operational requirements and a knowledge of time, cost and quality estimating.
  • Lead post PM and completed Work Order quality reviews.
  • Create appropriate equipment files to ensure timely updates with relevant maintenance and repair histories.
  • Review and regularly update all maintenance backlogs.
  • Provide technical assistance as required for maintenance personnel in executing the work.
  • Monitor parts/materials from point of order until staging.
  • Develop extended schedules that facilitate the 3-year Plan.
  • Maintain up to date visual boards utilized in the workshop so all parties can see daily work scope and weekly KPI's.
  • From time recorded against the WO, calculate wrench time for each work group.
  • Coordinate the arrival of materials, people, parts, and equipment to the job site so that they are on time and available in the logical order per the scheduled work plan.
  • Ensure that job feedback, part and procedural problems identified during Work Execution are used to update procedures and enhance future execution.
  • Analyze planned and completed WO and solicit input from key staff in improving current and future job plans.
  • Review physical asset hierarchy in SAP as part of the process when an asset is modified, a new asset is installed, or an asset is relocated or discarded.
  • Review/update documents in SAP in conjunction with a change to the physical hierarchy.
  • Criticality ranking, priority, due date and age of the WO are used to prioritize work to be planned and scheduled.
  • Apply simple lifecycle costing (LLC) strategy when deciding between maintain, overhaul or replacing components.
  • Plan and schedule within budgeted overtime limits.
  • Forecast and review resource needs based on an integrated Production Schedule and backlog data.
  • Participate in the Maintenance department’s continuous improvement and knowledge collection efforts.
  • Collect and track KPIs related to the planning and scheduling function.
  • Responsible for MRO purchases and maintaining inventory requirements in order to effectively execute planned work.
  • Kit and stage all required parts for scheduled work prior to the work being added to the schedule.
  • Work to ensure all required parts are available prior to the work being scheduled.
  • Regularly review Materials/Inventory Management guidelines with key stakeholders.
  • Maintain vendor information attached to the material part numbers (I.e., Lead time, vendor part #, etc...).
  • Oversee the documented parts receiving and issuing processes.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate must be able to perform various mechanical, electrical and diagnotic repairs on our diverse fleet of City vehicles and equipment. The City hires Apprentices who will be paid a percentage of the rate paid to Service Technician/Welders depending on level of Apprenticeship.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The successful applicant must be able to perform a variety of preventative maintenance and diversified repairs on the corporate fleet.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to the corporate fleet as set forth by the policy of the Fleet Maintenance Section.
  • Complete work assigned on work orders in a timely manner with mandatory consultation with the Supervisor on all items of concern.
  • Competently read electrical schematics and use computers to diagnose electrical and electronic system faults.
  • Work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be skilled in the use of all tools and equipment related to the trade.
  • Must provide all necessary hand tools to perform required fleet repairs.
  • Must stay current with new technologies and equipment to perform repairs
  • The successful applicant will be placed on a call-out list and must be willing and available to return to work after normal working hours if called upon.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 education along with valid Certificates of Qualification as a Truck & Coach Technician(310T), and Automotive Service Technician (310S) trade licenses from the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
  • Technicians holding both 310T and 310S licenses will be remunerated as a Service Technician/Welder as per the collective agreement.
  • Technicians holding a 310T will be considered as an Apprentice and remunerated as an Apprentice as per the collective agreement until the 310S is attained.
  • Technicians holding a 310S will be considered as an Apprentice and remunerated as an Apprentice as per the collective agreement until the 310T is attained.
  • Five (5) years experience actively pursuing the trade as a Licensed Mechanic with four (4) years experience working in a repair facility performing fleet maintenance on a wide variety of diversified off road equipment, light, medium and heavy duty commercial licensed vehicles.
  • Additional courses in the mechanic's trade will be an asset.
  • Experience in gas and electric (Arc and Mig) welding.
  • Familiarity with computerized work orders and time logging.
  • Must be able to read electrical schematics and have experience in the use of computers to diagnose electrical and electronic system faults.
  • Must be able to work on the corporate fleet under inclement weather conditions from time to time.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, WHMIS and hazardous goods, and the Ministry of Transportation Highway Traffic Act.
  • Natural Gas certificate ICE-NG is an asset.
  • Must act with integrity and demonstrate sound moral and ethical principles.

  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class 'G' Driver's License, with a driving record in good standing and acceptable to the City. Class D with Z endorsement preferred, or have the ability to attain a DZ license. A Driver's abstract will be required.

Job Details

As a Trailer Technician at Day & Ross, you will be responsible for repairing and inspecting trailers, and be a key member of our maintenance team. You are responsible for preventative maintenance, pre-inspection maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on the company’s fleet of trailers in accordance with the applicable level of training and apprenticeship. 

How You’ll Help

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of trailers according to work orders and in keeping with level of training/apprenticeship.
  • Maintaining safe shop environment (may include snow removal from the roof, de-icing, washing vehicles, sweeping, etc.
  • Work independently to complete diagnostic, service, repair and maintain trailers.
  • Maintain and repair trailer bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hub caps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc.
  • Document and update Service Supervisor/Service Manager on completion time changes, all findings, work done and potential future service requirements.
  • Other duties as may be required.

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Work experience in the trucking industry.
  • Experience in Trailer tire repairs, brakes, suspension, lights, bodywork, etc.
  • Prior Lead Hand Experience is an asset. 
  • Red Seal journeyperson certification is required.
  • Previous experience and qualification to perform Safety inspections are required in this position, 
  • Physically fit and able to lift, move, reach, bend, walk, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch for extended period of time.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation industry rules and regulations regarding transport trailers and components.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use safe work practices, including safe lifting and bending, working in tight spaces, etc. 
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, Strong attention to detail, good communication skills –verbal and written.
