The Power Engineer – 5th Class is a mid entry level position, responsible for assisting other technicians, performing maintenance and repair, routine services on non-technical facility components (i.e. walls, floors, etc.). The Power Engineer – 5th Class is also responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Troubleshooting
- Provides observations about facility, facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies and provides suggestions for enhancement and repair.
Maintenance
- Performs work in accordance to established processes and practices.
- Complies with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection.
- Performs regular facility technical and non-technical component monitoring and inspection.
- Responds to routine service requests and performs preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Operates facility mechanical, electrical and other systems
- Manages work order life cycle progressing the work form dispatched through to completion and records resolution data within service maintenance management database. Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements
- Assists in the implementation of preventative maintenance (PM) program. Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documents are maintained.
Client Relations
- Assists in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services delivered.
Administration
- Records resolution data within service maintenance management database. Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements.
- Receives, tracks, monitors and reports status of maintenance and repair work within service maintenance management database. Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required
- Participates in and assists with facility-related projects.
- Ensures the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements.
- Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required
- Submits all expenditures on a timely basis.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of facility operations and maintenance work experience
- Knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance
- Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair non-technical facility components
- Ability to provide observations about facility conditions and deficiencies and provide suggestions for enhancement and repair
- Ability to research, learn, and gain greater proficiency in applying on-the-job—fire, life, and building codes and standards
- Possesses a strong environment, health and safety mindset. Ability to perform work in a safe manner
- Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency
- Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification
- Basic knowledge and understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Ability to read understand and interpret technical drawings and information

- Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/stand-by and emergency call outs as they arise

- Meet the requirements for a higher security clearance.

The successful individual will manage and support projects, initiatives and programs that directly support goals and actions contained in the City’s Climate Adaptation Strategy. The successful individual will help in developing the City’s climate resilience standards, regulations and performance criteria and assist with internal and external stakeholder engagement. - Support the development and implementation of strategies and projects aimed at achieving goals and objectives contained in the City's Climate Adaptation Strategy

Qualifications

The vision of the Integrated Infrastructure Services (IIS) department is to inspire trust among citizens and Council in their commitment and ability to deliver quality infrastructure. The Transportation Asset Management (TAM) unit within the Lifecycle Management Section of IIS helps ensure the future of Edmontonians by enabling and implementing asset management best practices to maximize the value obtained from goods movement and auxiliary structure assets.
Reporting to the TAM Engineering Program Manager, the Asset Management Bridge Engineer will utilize their engineering, asset management and project management knowledge and skills to support the asset management of bridges, Light Rail Transit (LRT) tunnels, structural culverts and auxiliary structures (noise walls, retaining walls, overhead sign structures, stair cases, guard rails, etc.).
With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will be:
- Complete asset management & rehabilitation strategies/plans to support the overall renewal program, including:
- Develop asset management plans and supporting their implementation

- Authenticate professional work products such as, but not limited to, renewal technical memos, components of asset management plans, lifecycle estimates (e.g. remaining useful life of assets) and technical project scope statements
- Manage lower complexity Level 2 Assessments contracts and rehabilitation strategies for bridges, tunnels and auxiliary structures, including:
- Develop scopes of work for review and approval
- Coordinate and prepare required procurement documentation and processes to enable the engagement of consultants, including Standing Arrangements
- Perform project management administrative functions, as required by PMRG, to facilitate the completion of the Level 2 Assessment projects and/or rehabilitation strategies. Including preparation of project management (scope, cost, schedule, risk, etc.), financial documents, contracts, etc. for review and approval
- Monitor and report on Level 2 Assessment and rehabilitation strategy projects to enable the projects are completed on-budget, on-schedule, and within the defined scope and quality
- Prepare Project Scope Statements (PSS), support checkpoint 1 readiness activities, support project charter (PC) development and review of project change requests (PCRs) as needed
- Support project workshops and assessments
- Provide assistance on procurement (as needed) to other stakeholders (IPD, PARS, BGN and LRT)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. A Master’s Degree in bridge engineering or infrastructure asset management would be an asset

Qualifications

- Membership with ASET as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or eligibility to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET

• Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large size projects.
• Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
• Approves and signs off on work.
• Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
• Presents complex technical solutions to clients.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
•Bachelor Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering + 8 years of relevant experience in bridge design and project management
•Licensed Professional Engineer in Alberta (or eligible for registration)
•Must have a valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Master’s degree in structural engineering discipline is preferred
•10+ years in bridge design and construction with recent bridge design experience
•15+ years of experience performing/leading bridge design projects
•Experience in successfully leading bridge projects
•Experience in overseeing and managing small teams of engineers and technicians
•Complex structural design and analysis skills with a strong working knowledge of bridge modeling and analysis, steel girder design, prestressed concrete girder design, bridge rehabilitation design
•Superior technical understanding, design abilities and current on bridge technologies
•Advanced understanding of structural engineering principles as well as the application of prevailing design codes
•Experience participating in multi-disciplinary engineering projects, with ability to coordinate with supporting design disciplines, e.g. drainage, roadway, lighting, aesthetics, etc.
•Ability to work independently
•Strong interpersonal, negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Advanced knowledge in concrete design, including a knowledge of reinforced and prestressed concrete material and component behavior
•Recent experience with and understanding of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6)
•Experience in successfully leading bridge projects under a Design Build or P3 alternative delivery projects
•Recent experience in delivering Western Canada projects, primarily in Alberta and an understanding of Alberta Transportation and City of Edmonton staff, policies and procedures
•Experience in project management, including experience with business and contractual agreements
