The role leads the planning, development, and communication of corporate programs and policies to drive the evolution of Rogers Safety Management System.  The role uses strong project management and written communication skills to deliver these programs.   

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead Rogers policy and program development, including design, content, communication plans, resources and tools;
  • Manage Rogers contractor safety management program; leading enhancements and new requirements across the organization;
  • Lead Rogers audit program; planning, communication, implementation, and reporting;
  • Effectively write communications, content for various platforms, data reports, and presentations with a focus on the audience, clear, concise, and quality messaging;
  • In partnership with the Learning Team, design and develop new training courses, learning forums, and content.  Manage standardized training course offerings; 
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge and insight of regulatory requirements and ensuring programs meet those requirements;
  • Effectively use information captured through data systems and to provide meaningful reports on performance and recommendations for improvement to operations;
  • Collaborate with the safety team and operations to identify programs and resources needed;
  • Develop programs that are innovative and technology-based;
  • Manage consultants in delivering high quality services and products, and the terms of program defined.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • University degree, in Occupational Health and Safety or relevant science-based degree;
  • 5 years of experience;
  • CRSP designation and/or other relevant designations;
  • Extensive experience with project management and leading cross-functional teams;
  • Strong written, presentation, and communication skills;
  • Experience with safety management systems;
  • Strong knowledge and experience managing training, audit, and contractor safety programs;
  • Experience effectively managing projects from planning to implementation and evaluation;
  • Strong aptitude for developing relationships and influencing stakeholders;
  • Proficient with technology;
  • Forward thinking, creative, and brings innovative ideas

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular part-time Nurse Specialist Cord Blood to join our dynamic Medical Laboratory & Stem Cell Services team. 

 

The Medical Laboratory & Stem Cell Services team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by operating several programs that support better outcomes for patients living with the many diseases and disorders that can be treated with stem cell transplants such as leukemia, lymphoma, aplastic anemia, and inherited immune and metabolic disorders.

Formula for success

  • Using your superb people and interpersonal skills, you will work collaboratively with Cord Blood Bank (CBB) staff to ensure promotion, development and maintenance of an environment of continuous quality improvement in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards; and customer satisfaction.
  • Utilizing your ability to be sensitive, discreet, and confidential, you will perform maternal interviews and assess responses to questions to assess donor suitability for cord blood donation including:
    o    informed consent.
    o    medical history/health assessment questionnaire.
    o    hospital medical chart review with associated assessment for cord blood suitability.
    o    phlebotomy to obtain maternal blood samples.
  • Applying your experience in phlebotomy, you will perform ex-utero umbilical cord blood collection as required.
  • Harnessing your remarkable leadership skills, you will provide training, support and mentorship to the cord blood bank team and hospital customers. 

Desired education and skills

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing of a recognized registered nursing program; and minimum of three to six years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered nurse in the province of employment is a requirement.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, developed skills in design, instruction or facilitation is an asset.
  • Experience in Obstetrical Nursing and/or Labour and Delivery is preferred.
  • Venepuncture experience is mandatory.
  • The ability to exercise judgment, tact, diplomacy and strict confidentiality are mandatory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. OPERATION STRATEGY
  • Manage and develop procedures and processes to meet departmental goals and objectives.

EDUCATION:

  • Must hold or be eligible and able to obtain one of the following certifications within Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP); Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP).
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) is an asset.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-7 years health and safety experience preferably in both public and unionized environments.
  • 5 years’ experience in a leadership capacity.

               OR Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Excellent knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, collective agreements and related legislation.
  • Additional formal training and/or experience with the treatment, management and prevention of psychological and musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses and/or Ergonomics is preferred.
  • Experience managing and leveraging contracts with third-party vendors such as Employee and Family Assistance Programs, disability claim litigators, Disability Insurance Providers, and Occupational Health Services is preferred.
  • Experience in municipal/public sector is an asset.
  • Experience managing WSIB claims as a Schedule 2 employer is preferred.
  • Experience with Disability Management Software.
  • Experience in the application of corporate STD, LTD programs with a focus on early and safe return to work.
  • Experience with Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems is preferred.

  • Supports our Wastewater pretreatment facility and environmental management programs including the Environmental Emergency management (E2) Plan and associated drills and activities.
