This position is responsible for a broad range of maintenance activities that are performed to keep UPS package handling facilities operating efficiently and effectively. The work is sometimes fast-paced and requires routine interaction with other operations employees.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Inspecting troubleshooting repairing and/or replacing mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, sprockets, sheaves, pulleys, rollers, conveyor belts, bearings and transfer plates.
• Troubleshooting adjusting and replacing AC and DC electrical equipment such as batteries, control stations, fuses, motor starters, relays, switches and timers.
• Inspecting troubleshooting repairing and/or replacing pneumatic equipment such as puck sorters, flow splitters, diverters, air compressors, lubricators, hoses and coils.
• Inspecting troubleshooting repairing and/or replacing hydraulic equipment such as hoses, fittings, cylinders and pumps.
• Welding equipment such as hand rails, conveyor supports, package handling equipment, carts and grating.
• Performing preventive maintenance inspections of plant equipment such as conveyors, bulk carts, and power industrial equipment.

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 education or equivalent.
• Possession of a valid 433A Millwright or 442A Industrial Electrician Certification of Qualification is highly preferred but extensive relevant experience may be considered.
• Minimum 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience performing maintenance on industrial equipment.
• Ability to receive and give instruction over radio in industrial environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

The GTA Facility in Brampton, ON is FGL’s and Canadian Tire’s most highly automated distribution centres, processing and delivering incoming vendor goods to our large chain of retail stores. This facility has some 16 km of automated conveyors, 3 High speed sortation systems, our automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) using a shuttle system storing product in almost 110,00 locations, to deliver product reliably and efficiently throughout the building. These systems work together through a central computer-controlled system to ensure product is received and delivered to our stores quickly and accurately.

The Maintenance Department is seeking a supervisor (shift supervisor) to lead a skilled team of trades, including (4) Industrial Mechanics and (2) Electricians

 to perform scheduled preventive maintenance and service work to achieve department and productivity key performance indicators. The Supervisor supervises the execution of the maintenance work plan for the assigned shifts and assists in the set up for the oncoming shifts as required. The Supervisor liaises with the Maintenance Planners to ensure all planned work has the resources and material available to complete the plan and works closely with the incoming Maintenance team at shift hand-off to ensure plan compliance and transfer of information regarding breakdowns and other issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead employees in the daily execution of planned (PM) & unplanned (service) work, and project or overhaul work as required

• Work with Operations Managers/Team Leads to respond quickly and effectively to equipment downtime, productivity or safety issues

• Monitor production requirements during shift to meet operational requirements

• Provide direction, leadership and problem-solving guidance to employees to minimize equipment downtime

• Ensure all work orders are completed on a timely, efficient, effective and safe manner

QUALIFICATIONS

Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma required (Engineering or Technical Discipline) or Skilled Trade License (442A Industrial Electrician, #433A Industrial Millwright Mechanic

• 5+ years supervisory experience in the maintenance field or demonstrable equivalent experience

• Demonstrable experience working with O.Reg 851 (Industrial Establishments)

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Manager, Fleet, this role provides supervisory leadership to the Fleet Maintenance staff to ensure that maintenance products and services are provided to City user departments, enabling the functional and efficient use of fleet vehicles and equipment.

• Supervise Fleet Services maintenance staff which includes both salaried and unionized positions (mechanics, trades people and apprentices) and outside contractors. As functional supervisor, provide direction and guidance to the Mechanical Forepersons. Establish performance objectives, work assignments, and motivate staff through daily coaching, mentoring and guidance. Ensure a safe, functional and efficient work environment for staff. Accountable for adherence to City policies, legislative requirements and collective agreements. Provide consistent leadership with respect to practices, expectations and a positive working environment fostering development of all staff. Establishes appropriate policies and procedures for the section and ensures these are updated and changed as required to meet service plans and strategic goals. Fosters positive labour relations. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to develop solution based practices and procedures that enhance service delivery. • Administer Fleet Services programs related to scheduling of seasonal maintenance, repairs and modifications, replacements and parts purchases.  SELECTION CRITERIA:

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Administration, Maintenance Management, Human Resources, Labour Relations or the equivalent experience and education.
• 3 to 5 years fleet experience, with 2 or more years supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment
