SUMMARY

  4. Identifies and escalates issues in accordance with documented policies and procedures. 
  5. Reviews all reports written during shift. 
  6. Ensures all scheduled posts are filled. 
  7. Maintains documentation and follows standardized procedures to successfully complete unannounced audits. 
  8. Collects complete information for detailed report and appropriate follow-up. Prepares well written reports and maintains strict distribution to “need to know” parties. 
  9. Cross-training will be provided for all site-based roles, enabling you to step in for other position coverage and offer relief breaks to guards, when required by operational needs.
  10. Prepares written and electronic logs and reports as required for the site while entering information in appropriate computer systems. 
  11. Read and comprehends standard operations procedures, post orders, reports, and other printed materials. 
  12. Performs additional tasks assigned by management. 
  13. Evaluates and escalates potential safety issues within the facility. 
  14. Required to know and follow safe work practices, and to be aware of company policies and procedures related to job safety, including safety rules and regulations. Notify supervisor upon becoming aware of unsafe working conditions. 

MINIMUM HIRING STANDARDS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age. 
  • Must have a reliable means of communication, such as cell phone. 
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation (public or private). 
  • Must have the legal right to work in Canada. 
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently. 
  • Must have a high school diploma, secondary education equivalent, or GED.

The Fire Safety Consultant is responsible for ensuring CTC's fire prevention, preparedness, contingency planning, training, emergency management and investigations meet or exceed industry standards.   • Investigate and analyze the cause of fire alarms and trouble, events and conditions and perform root cause and gap analysis, validate that the corrective actions are acceptable, closed and addressed within an appropriate timeframe with all stakeholders

  • In conjunction with the internal training department, prepare training plans for fire prevention awareness, the use of fire extinguishers and evacuation

  • Demonstrate leadership and initiative in the development of fire protection projects and action plans

  • Manage and report on nonconformities and incidents. Actively participate in project requirements meetings

 

What you bring

  • 2+ years of related work experience

  • University/College degree or diploma related to Fire Protection and Fire Prevention

  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or similar designation is an asset

  • Familiarity and formal training in emergency preparedness or like disciplines

  • Knowledge of fire protection and life safety including familiarity with building/fire/life safety codes, standards, and best practices

  • Working knowledge of fire prevention, fire codes, building codes and associated standards

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Crossing Guards, this position is responsible to safely escort pedestrians, as defined in the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) across roadways at designated school crossings by monitoring traffic flow gaps and assuming right of way, while adhering to regulations, policies and procedures.

    • Control and obey all regulations, policies and procedures to ensure pedestrians are safely assisted at designated school crossings.
    • Provide exceptional customer service to the public, ensuring safe crossing rules are communicated clearly, followed and reinforced as required.
    • Document and communicate all incidents and/or unsafe conditions to management, school officials and/or Peel Regional Police.
    • Adhere to emergency vehicle right of way, ensuring they have priority over both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

    • Must have the ability to remain alert and perform responsibilities quickly and safely.
    • Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with management, pedestrians, residents, school officials and police.
    • Must be able to move briskly and repeatedly in and out of intersection and stand for 45 to 90 minutes, 3 times a day in all weather conditions.
    • Must be able to extend an arm out parallel to shoulder holding a “STOP” sign (weight of approximately 1 pound) for up to one minute frequently.
    • Must be able to effectively hear and see oncoming traffic at a safe distance (approximately 300 feet).
    • Previous experience dealing with the public and/or children is an asset.

To be successful, you should be physically fit to stand and walk with a stop sign in various weather conditions for up to an hour. Good hearing, eyesight, and communication skills are essential. You'll work independently without constant supervision and need to be available for three shifts each weekday during the school year. While having a vehicle is a plus, it is not mandatory. The shifts total up to 3.5 hours a day within an 8-hour window. Your role is crucial for maintaining safety at school.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Crossing Guards the successful candidate:

  • Assists pedestrians in safely crossing roadways at designated school crossings.
  • Communicates rules of safe crossing to both students and adults.
  • Must ensure compliance to the Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the City's Respectful Workplace Policy etc.
  • Must wear supplied safety clothing and use all safety equipment as per training by the Supervisor, Crossing guards and /or Team Leader, Crossing Guards and/or Field Leader/Crossing Guards.
  • May assist in training other crossing guards if requested.
  • Must report incidents at the crossing to the supervisor, following up with the school officials and/or Peel Regional Police as directed by Supervisor.

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Must be in good physical condition in order to be able to stand and walk holding a stop sign for up to one hour at a time in all weather conditions.
  • Must demonstrate good hearing and eyesight.
  • Should have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently without direct day to day supervision.
  • Must be available Monday to Friday during the school year for 3 shifts per day (at school entry; at school lunch break, at school dismissal) as per the provided hours of duty.
  • Access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • You will be working 3 shifts consisting of up to 3.5 hours a day, during an 8 hour window.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Graduate of Law Enforcement, Security, Police Foundations, Municipal Law Enforcement or other Enforcement related program at a Community College or University is a minimum requirement. 
  • 1-2 years Parking Enforcement ticket issuance or administration experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the City's Parking enforcement by-laws, Administrative Penalty by-law and Provincial Offences Act, is required.
  • Work experience with electronic Administrative Penalty Notices and other parking enforcement handheld technology, vehicle License Plate Recognition/Digital Chalking, INFOR is an asset.
  • Excellent oral communication skills essential with demonstrated ability to resolve disputes in a manner which supports our client driven integrated service delivery mandate.

Your main responsibilities include helping pedestrians, especially students, safely cross roads near schools. You'll explain safety rules, ensure compliance with traffic and safety laws, and wear provided safety gear. If needed, you might assist in training other crossing guards.

 

To be successful, you should be physically fit to stand and walk with a stop sign in various weather conditions for up to an hour. Good hearing, eyesight, and communication skills are essential. You'll work independently without constant supervision and need to be available for three shifts each weekday during the school year. While having a vehicle is a plus, it is not mandatory. The shifts total up to 3.5 hours a day within an 8-hour window. Your role is crucial for maintaining safety at school.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Crossing Guards the successful candidate:

  • Assists pedestrians in safely crossing roadways at designated school crossings.
  • Communicates rules of safe crossing to both students and adults.
  • Must ensure compliance to the Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the City's Respectful Workplace Policy etc.
  • Must wear supplied safety clothing and use all safety equipment as per training by the Supervisor, Crossing guards and /or Team Leader, Crossing Guards and/or Field Leader/Crossing Guards.
  • May assist in training other crossing guards if requested.
  • Must report incidents at the crossing to the supervisor, following up with the school officials and/or Peel Regional Police as directed by Supervisor.

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Must be in good physical condition in order to be able to stand and walk holding a stop sign for up to one hour at a time in all weather conditions.
  • Must demonstrate good hearing and eyesight.
  • Should have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently without direct day to day supervision.
  • Must be available Monday to Friday during the school year for 3 shifts per day (at school entry; at school lunch break, at school dismissal) as per the provided hours of duty.
  • Access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • You will be working 3 shifts consisting of up to 3.5 hours a day, during an 8 hour window.

Our Driver Safety & Training Office is seeking a Driver Safety & Training Instructor on a contract for up to 12-Month to develop, deliver, and monitor safety and training programs for all operators of GO Transit buses and support vehicles, including identifying and developing key performance measures for training delivery.
 
What will I be doing?
  • Training and licensing new and existing drivers that complies with both corporate and legal requirements.
  • Supervising and monitoring the progress of new drivers and conducting detailed performance reviews before the end of their probation period.
  • Providing corporate mandated training and testing required for the issue of GO Transit Operator Permits
  • Monitoring the license and medical status of GO Transit bus drivers, mechanics, and support staff.
  • Conducting driver safety and related public relations programs.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Successful completion of a college diploma in adult facilitation techniques, including needs assessment, designing and developing instruction, delivering instruction, evaluating and managing training programs, communications for teaching, methods of instruction; or any combination of education, training or experience deemed equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Class B driver’s license with Z endorsement for a minimum of 3 years and possess a good driving record for the past five years.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MTO signing authority for Class BCZ licenses.
    Between 4-5 years’ experience, including knowledge or demonstrated ability in:
  • Driving highway coaches and/or regular transit buses.
  • Oral, written, and interpersonal communications involving union/management relations, interviewing, and public speaking.
  • Creating, organizing, and implementing driver safety and training programs.
  • The technicalities of GO Transit operated bus equipment.
  • Familiarity with The Ontario Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Public Vehicles Act, National Safety Code, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (Out of Service Criteria), and CVOR regulations.
  • Ability to effectively represent GO Transit when communicating with the media in the event of a serious collision or incident.
  • Word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications.
