The City of Regina is recruiting up to five (5) Civil and/or Environmental Engineering Students for an exciting summer employment opportunity in the Roadways Preservation Branch. Reporting to an Engineer, this position performs technical support work in the field of asset management of roadway infrastructure. The term of the assignment will be four (4) months throughout the summer. Gain entry-level experience in the engineering industry while knowing your work is instrumental to the various facets of work throughout our city.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Measuring, interpreting and recording roadway and concrete condition data.
- Gathering roadway inventory data
- Co-ordinating with colleagues to effectively and efficiently complete programs
- Reviewing and assessing data for accuracy and completeness Performing calculations and queries in spreadsheets and databases
- Following all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual
Education & Experience
Candidates will be screened on the following criteria:

The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are typically obtained through a one (1) year certificate in Civil Engineering technology or an educational equivalent; or senior matriculation and a minimum of one (1) year's related experience in a municipal engineering environment. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- The knowledge, abilities and skills that are obtained through courses taken during the first or second year of a Degree/Diploma in Engineering
- Knowledge of engineering principles, theories and practices related to roadway infrastructure.
- Knowledge of asphalt pavement and concrete deterioration mechanics
- Demonstrated skills working both independently and as a member of a team on a complex task.
- Intermediate computer skills to create tables and forms, create formulas, create queries and reports and import/export data from various sources and formats
- Skills to manage time and perform tasks in a well-organized manner
- Skills to express ideas effectively, in oral and written form
- Skills to establish and maintain effective working relations and a respectful work environment.
- Ability to work outside for a long periods of time.
Working/Other Conditions
Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and have a vehicle available for work usage (a travel allowance is provided)

Key Responsibilities
• Lead project management activities including design, specifications development, tendering, contract administration, and construction oversight.

Key Qualifications:
• A university degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field).
• Registered or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan.
• Candidates with 5 or more years of relevant Professional Engineering experience in building design, construction, and maintenance will be considered for the Senior Engineer level. Those with less than 5 years of Professional Engineering experience, preferably in facility design and maintenance, will be considered for the Project Engineer level.
• Project Management Professional or Certificate in Project Management is desired.
• Strong project management and contract administration skills.
• Advanced knowledge of building design and construction principles, including architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems.
• Familiarity with relevant acts, regulations, codes, and energy management standards for public facility construction and renovation.
• In-depth knowledge of facility design, construction, and maintenance practices.
• Proficiency in engineering design software (AutoCAD) and asset management tools.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management abilities.

The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for operating the facility including, but not limited to mechanical other supporting systems; performing structured inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, routine and on-demand services on facility mechanical equipment and other systems. The Technician is also responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Troubleshooting
- Provides observations about facility, facility mechanical and electrical equipment, and systems conditions and deficiencies and provides suggestions for enhancement and repair.
Maintenance
- Performs work in accordance with established processes and practices.
- Complies with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection.
- Performs regular facility, mechanical and other equipment and systems monitoring inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure facility uptime objectives are met, uninterrupted client operation and asset integrity of assigned facility are maintained.

Client Relations
- Assists in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through the manner in which work is performed and services delivered.
Administration
- Participates in and assists with facility-related projects.
- Ensures the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection, and any other applicable requirements.
- Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required
- Submits all expenditures on a timely basis.

EDUCATION, JOB-RELATED YEARS OF EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma plus trades training and/or certification or licensing.
- Experience providing preventive and corrective maintenance on heating ventilation and air conditions systems, or pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
- Sound knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance
- Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair (as per applicable qualifications) mechanical and other building systems and equipment
- Possesses a strong environmental, health, and safety mindset.
