In the role of Industrial Electrician working in Chilliwack, British Columbia, you will be responsible for electrical plant maintenance. This position requires you to be flexible to work all shifts and will require weekend work as well. The Industrial Electrician will be an essential member of a team that uses established world class manufacturing processes to intelligently challenge current practice to identify, implement and sustain improvements.  This is a Local 300 union role that is full-time that pays $44.68/hr ( 90-day probationary period is applicable to this role) plus benefits.  Shift: Monday – Friday, rotating between days, afternoons, nights every two weeks. Days (6:00am-2:00pm), Afternoons (2:00pm-10:00pm) Nights (10:00pm – 6:00am)

 

The Responsibilities: 

 

  • Complete preventative, corrective, and emergency work orders as required for all plant electrical equipment.
  • Perform electrical installations and modifications, including conduit bending, cable install, electrical equipment mounting, industrial automation system installation and lighting system repair and installation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC’s and Device Net.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, maintenance manuals, ladder diagrams, troubleshooting guides, PLC ladder and sequential function charts, control loop diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, and maintenance manuals.
  • Test, troubleshooting, adjust and repair analog components, digital and logic circuits, microprocessor controlled devices, programmable logic and automation controllers, electronic process measurement systems, and electronic controllers.
  • Effective and safe use of electrical test and recording equipment.
  • Communicate with other departments for their electrical needs.
  • Use SAP (Maintenance Management System) for creating, updating and closing work orders.
  • Generate accurate and effective maintenance records, status reports, and data and maintenance logs.  Effectively respond to oral and written requests.
  • Adhere to all electrical principles and methods, proper use of tools and equipment, and safety procedures.  This includes the safe and proper use of various hand and power tools, test meters and equipment.
  • Other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the Team Leader.

 

TheOtherQualifications: 

 

  • Provincial TQ and Red Seal IP certification in electrical work required
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in FMCG industry preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the maintenance of high speed packaging lines / batch brewing equipment.
  • General PC troubleshooting and repair knowledge, including MS Windows software and common PC components.
  • Rockwell Automation hardware and software experience, including the PLC-5 and Logix PLC/PAC platforms is a strong asset.
  • General instrumentation knowledge and experience.
  • Batch processing experience, specifically in S88/S95 based batch control systems.
  • Arc-flash and shock hazard awareness and knowledge, an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in environment of constant changes and comfortable working in both cold and warm climates.
  • You are able to work rotating shifts (Day, Evening, Night and Weekends).
  • You have strong computer skills, including experience with SAP.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment.
  • Work with Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) & programming software, and their interaction with electrical components. 
  • Troubleshoot, repair and install high speed filling machines with a comprehensive working knowledge of electrical systems and components to allow efficient repair/replacement results. 
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance and regular work orders and account for inventory and labor on computerized maintenance system. 
  • Perform documented regular preventative maintenance inspections on all electrical equipment. 
  • Ensure that all coders are in good functional working order. 
  • Assist the production lines with change-overs and set-ups. 
  • Identify and report identified hazards and fulfill all Health & Safety, WHMIS, Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) policy requirements. 
  • Work with others cooperatively, safely and in a structured and team environment. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Journeymen Red Seal Electrician required.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as an Electrician is required.
  • Ability to read, interpret and update Electrical and Mechanical drawings / schematics is required. 
  • Experience in the following areas: Equipment Repairs, Equipment Improvements, Equipment Upgrades, New Equipment Installations, Preventive Maintenance, Knowledge and experience with installing, troubleshooting and repairing Programming Logic Controllers (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi) Competency in troubleshooting Human Machine Interface (HMIs), Variable frequency drives, Motion control, Laser date coders, Ink jet printers, Case packers, Palletizers, High Speed Packaging system.

Credentials

 

Millwright 433A License Required or equivalent knowledge and experience.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Possession of a valid 433A Millwright or 442A Industrial Electrician Certification of Qualification is highly preferred but extensive relevant experience may be considered
  • Minimum 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience performing maintenance on industrial equipment
  • Ability to receive and give instruction over radio in industrial environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Job Details

 The General Repair Technician III is responsible for operating the facility including, but not limited to mechanical other supporting systems; performing structured inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, routine and on-demand services on facility mechanical equipment and other systems. The Technician III, Stationary is also responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection. 

 This role will work in collaboration with all key BGIS departments to ensure full support of all activities and play a key role in our INTEGRATED approach to operating buildings.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Safety Ownership and Regulatory Compliance 

  • Comply with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and mandated by BGIS Health Safety and Environment Teams and enforced by law. 
  • Take ownership of safety measures relates to building equipment, ensuring the secure operation of critical systems. 

 Technical Leader and Oversight: 

  • Performs regular facility, mechanical and other equipment and systems monitoring inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure facility uptime objectives are met, uninterrupted client operation and asset integrity of assigned facility are maintained. 
  • Responds to routine and on-demand service requests and performs preventative and corrective maintenance on facility mechanical equipment and other systems. 
  • Participates in and assists with facility-related projects. 
  • Provides observations about facility, facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies and provides suggestions for enhancement and repair. 
  • Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required. 
  • Assume technical leadership in maintaining and optimizing building equipment to prevent disruptions to tenant operations. 
  • Ensure peak performance of critical building equipment, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, through continuous technical monitoring and maintenance supporting 24/7 operations. 

Visibility in Sites: 

  • Establish a strong technical presence at facility sites, particularly focusing on critical building equipment areas. 
  • Cultivate technical relationships with on-site personnel, emphasizing the importance of equipment reliability and technical response to equipment issues. 

Inspection Management: 

  • Performs work in accordance to established processes and practices. 
  • Monitors assigned facility by conducting facility walkthroughs for mechanical, electrical and other equipment system monitoring and inspection. 
  • Execute comprehensive technical inspections of building equipment, focusing on critical systems that directly impact tenant operations. 
  • Document and analyze technical findings, prioritizing equipment-related repairs and upgrades. 
  • Execute and maintain a meticulous technical inspection checklist and database specific to building equipment. 

 Occupant Experience: 

  • Assists in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services delivered. 
  • Enhance the tenant experience by prioritizing the reliability and technical functionality of building equipment. 
  • Collaborate with facility management to ensure seamless equipment operation and minimal tenant disruptions. 

 Proactive Communication and Escalation: 

  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby and emergency call-outs as they arise 
  • Communicate technical information effectively, with a focus on building equipment, to internal teams and external vendors. 
  • Escalate critical equipment-related issues to minimize downtime and tenant disruptions. 
  • Maintain open and technical communication channels with stakeholders, emphasizing equipment status and maintenance updates. 

Work Order Management: 

  • Manages work order life cycle in partnership with the Central Work Order Management Team progressing the work form dispatched through to completion and records resolution data within service maintenance management database. Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements. 
  • In partnership with the BGIS CMMS Team, Assists in the implementation of preventative maintenance (PM) program. Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documents are maintained. 
  • Ensures the way work is performed is following corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements. 
  • Prioritize technical work orders related to building equipment to minimize business disruptions for tenants. 
  • Efficiently coordinate technical assignments and oversee the timely completion of equipment-related tasks. 
  • Maintain thorough records of technical work order history, including equipment-specific details and expenses. 

 Financial Ownership (Including Quotes Management): 

  • Submits all expenditures on a timely basis. 
  • In partnership with the Maintenance Lead, FM, and Regional Director, manage the budget for building equipment maintenance, seeking cost-effective solutions to ensure tenant operations are unaffected. 
  • Solicit and evaluate technical quotes for equipment repairs, maintenance, and upgrades, with a strong focus on minimizing tenant disruptions. 

Vendor Management: 

  • Oversee technical vendors and contractors with specialized expertise in building equipment maintenance. 
  • Hold vendors to high technical standards, emphasizing the importance of maintaining equipment integrity to prevent tenant disruptions. 

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

  • High school diploma plus trades training and/or certification or licensing. 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience providing preventive and corrective maintenance on heating ventilation and air conditions systems, or pneumatic or hydraulic systems. 
  • Sound knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance  
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair (as per applicable qualifications) mechanical and other building systems and equipment  
  • Possesses a strong environmental, health, and safety mindset. 
  • Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency  
  • Knowledge and understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS) 
  • Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification 
  • Mentoring skills required to support lower level technician’s development 
  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby and emergency call-outs as they arise 
  • Must strictly adhere to Health and Safety policies including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 
  • Must be capable of obtaining appropriate security clearance 
  • Knowledge and understanding of HVAC Systems

Provides maintenance and related trade support services
