Focused on business and operations in the Oil & Gas industry, the Internal Audit Analyst reports into the Internal Audit function at Canadian Natural, and involves conducting risk-based reviews of processes and controls across departments, providing actionable recommendations, and driving continuous improvement to enhance organizational efficiency and effectiveness. 

You will be part of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team who work together with management and senior leadership to provide independent assurance that business risks are appropriately managed and mitigated. You will gain exposure to and be involved in various functions across Canadian Natural’s business units, including Corporate, Oil Sands Mining, Conventional, Thermal, and Offshore North Sea and West Africa.

The knowledge and experience you acquire in this role will enhance your business acumen and deepen your understanding of the Oil & Gas industry, better positioning you to contribute to the organization’s success.

  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta - In Office (no hybrid)

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop your understanding of enterprise risk and various Canadian Natural business functions, including how they are affected by statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to audit risk assessments and planning process, along with helping to develop the audit strategy and approach for various audits assigned to you
  • Perform detailed analyses of the processes assigned to you, and identify and understand the business objectives and related risks
  • Work with management across different business units to plan and coordinate work efforts
  • Plan and perform business process walk-throughs, develop testing procedures and document your work
  • Provide risk and control advisory services to the business, focusing on enhancing internal controls and improving process efficiency and effectiveness through value-added recommendations

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related discipline, coupled with a Professional Auditing (e.g., CIA), Accounting (e.g., CPA), or a Professional Engineering designation (PEng.).
  • Willingness to pursue Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) / Internal Audit Practitioner (IAP) designation
  • Preference will be given to individuals with 5 - 10 years of internal audit experience in a multi-disciplinary oil & gas company environment, including knowledge and experience of corporate operations, IT operations, oil & gas field operations, mining operations, and related statutory and regulatory requirements

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing, working towards achieving or willing to register
  • Registered Nurse and practicing member of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta is required
  • 3+ years’ experience in the occupational health nursing field and the oil sands industry preferred
  • Experience with and knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Health Information Act, WCB Act and Regulations and Privacy Act

What you’ll do:

  • Maintain integrity of mechanical equipment and perform safe and efficient maintenance in accordance with established work practices, procedures, standards, regulations, and codes

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and preserve mechanical equipment such as plunger, gear, vane, screw and multistage centrifugal horizontal and vertical pumps, mechanical seals, valves, valve actuators, tank mixers, diesel generator and locomotive engines

  • Work closely with Maintenance Planners to develop maintenance plans, identify tooling and materials for planned work, and ensure both new and existing equipment data is identified and detailed accurately in SAP

  • Work closely with Maintenance Trades Leads to develop and revise maintenance procedures and with the Maintenance Scheduler to ensure that the daily schedule is maintained and updated

  • Support operators to ensure safeguards are in place and functioning, and that you are knowledgeable on emergency shutdown systems, emergency response plans, and the operability of safety devices

  • Provide on-site supervision and mentoring to service providers and less expert Mechanics, perform facility and field inspections, complete site observations, and report any deficiencies

  • Provide technical support and assistance to support Maintenance and Reliability, including adhering to standard methodologies, participating in incident investigations and root cause analysis of equipment failures, and supporting continuous improvement and cost reduction

  • Assist in commissioning and start-up of new equipment and identify new equipment and technologies to improve asset reliability

 

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • At least 10 years of maintenance and industrial experience in oil and gas as a Journeyman Mechanic, Millwright, or equivalent, with a certificate in one of those disciplines or an equivalent field, an interprovincial Red Seal ticket, and a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Mechanical maintenance and construction experience to ensure equipment is installed and maintained according to the applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations, with the ability to simultaneously handle a variety of work tasks and priorities and make decisions and recommendations on technical issues

  • Experience with rigging equipment for equipment lifts on picker trucks and cranes and overhead building cranes, and with various mechanical tooling such as hydraulic and precision alignment tools

  • Knowledge in Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), process piping and Pressure Safety Devices (PSV), and experience with rotating and stationary equipment condition supervising such as oil sampling, airborne ultrasound, infrared thermography, and vibration analysis

  • Keen safety awareness and knowledge of safe work procedures, and experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as SAP or Maximo

How you will make contributions that matter: 

  • Wet Packaging – Worker is in direct contact with processed, unpackaged dairy products, and are required to supply the line with the product, placing it into the packaging material, and ensuring product is properly sealed before moving it through to Dry Packaging. Four (4) to seven (7) workers may occupy this position on a production line, and will rotate through the tasks every 30 minutes.

  • Dry Packaging – Worker is in direct contact with packaged dairy products, and are required to ensure labels and product dates are applied correctly, as well as boxing and palletizing the finished goods for the Warehouse. Two (2) to three (3) workers may occupy this position on a production line, and will rotate through the tasks every 30 minutes.
     

General Responsibilities

  • Attend scheduled shift punctually and ready to fulfill all duties required.

  • Meet daily performance targets stipulated by the Production Supervisors, Production Lead Hand, and/or Line Operator.

  • Participate in job rotation, as required.

  • Assist in setup, changeovers, and tear down of machinery and equipment.

  • Participate in daily mandatory stretching program before start of shift, and as required.

  • Report, immediately, any/all food safety and quality issues, and health and safety concerns/infractions to the Line Operator, Production Lead Hand, and/or Production Supervisor.

  • Complete all required documentation accurately and timely.

  • Complete daily sanitation duties.

  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Adhere to good hand washing practices to ensure food safety.

  • Comply with all Saputo Orangeville Health and Safety, Food Safety and Quality regulations.

  • Comply with all Saputo Orangeville policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Receive instructions relative to priority needs and requirements.
  • Work with all engineering departments on the design, fabrication, installation and try-out of new and modified equipment.
  • Work with other departments in the troubleshooting of equipment and facility concerns;
  • Effect repairs in a timely and efficient manner as required.
  • Evaluate jobs to be done in relation to tools required and the extent of materials needed;
  • Estimate the time required for each job;
  • Obtain the necessary equipment, tools and parts required to do the job through various means including the toolcrib, toolroom or through special orders;
  • Communicate fabricated part requirements to engineering and toolroom through the use of basic sketches;
  • Read and interpret blueprints for equipment and parts;
  • Carry out any preventative maintenance work as required by the company preventative maintenance program; including Hydroulics, Conveyors, and Pumps.
  • Operate the fork lift and high lift as required;
  • Troubleshoot plc and control program issues.
  • Work is completed through use of milling machines, drill presses, assorted grinders, lathes, various welders, measuring equipment and computers;
  • Assist other maintenance departments and personnel as required;
  • Liaise with all other departments including production, toolroom, engineering and quality control in the performance of duty;
  • Through the purchasing department, liaise with outside contractors and suppliers;

  • Ensure that all environmental requirements are identified and addressed when performing duties.
  • Ensure that all safety requirements are being carried out when performing duties.
  • Comply with defined Business Management and Environmental Management Systems requirements.
  • Provide support for the continuous improvement initiatives within Techform.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

 

Shift: Fixed Afternoons or Rotating

  • Certified Millwright with the appropriate papers;
  • Pre-employment training includes the making of general repairs to equipment involving knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems;
  • Knowledge of welding principles is an asset;
  • Ability to read detailed machine blueprints;
  • Attention to detail is key as position involves work on equipment which is not easily replaced.
