The screener is responsible to follow all requirements as described in the Local Aviation Security Procedures and any local regulations. Screeners may be called upon to fulfill Alternate Facility Security Coordinator (AFSC) duties when required. This position will require to use equipment and follow guidelines for screening as described in the Aviation Security Master Operating Plan.

Specific Job Duties:

DSA - Designated Screening Area

The screener must restrict access to the area other than authorized personnel only. The screener must enforce proper ID, challenge and escort procedures at all times. This position will require an enhanced background check spanning the past 5 years.   

Screening:

After completing the UPS required training, the screener will now be in charge of identifying and controlling any possible threat during screening. The screener will use a variety of tools and equipment like X-ray scanners and chemical trace detectors to complete the task. Screening is the employee’s main responsibility while they are at work.

Document Management:

The screener must fully complete and secure all documentation until released to the Facility Security Coordinator, these include but are not limited to various checklists for equipment maintenance and repair, checklists, logs and any other documentation as described in the Aviation Security Master Operating Plan.  

Equipment:

All equipment will be maintained as required to keep them fully operational and properly calibrated. The screener is responsible to notify the local management of any equipment or system failures. The screener will keep accurate and complete records. The screener will also manage scanners that are used throughout the operation.

Aviation Security Training:

The screener is responsible to comply with any required training on a timely manner, trainings are time sensitive. Screeners will be continuously tested and audited to ensure accuracy and compliance. Screener must meet minimum requirements in order to maintain qualifications. Training will be provided.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Familiar with MS Office applications
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
• Ability to multitask, and handle pressure
• Able to lift up to 70-lbs
• Able to work with cargo scanning equipment
• Strong organizational skills.

The shift is Monday to Friday from 3pm to 6pm.

Responsibilities: 

• Support business leaders with specialized and strategic HR advice in resolving employee and labour relations matters 

• Effectively collaborate with business and Union partners to complete cross-functional tasks and resolve people matters that arise, including MOL inquiries/disputes 

•  In collaboration with HR leadership, partners with client groups to understand operational needs; obtain feedback for program design and create HR solutions appropriate to their business. 

• Take the lead on employee incident reviews and investigations with home Administrators/leaders to ensure processes are followed consistently and due diligence has been done. 

• Provide sound advice on workplace policies & procedures and share knowledge appropriately on applicable provincial legislation. 

• Facilitate the implementation, interpretation and application of Extendicare’s company policies, collective agreements, projects and programs. 

• Accountable to deliver key projects in support of the business priorities, including root cause analysis, implementation, communication and change management of deliverables. 

• Collaborate with your peers and key business stakeholders to add to the collective innovative thinking that can drive new ideas and processes. 

• Develop and deliver training on HR-related topics to management, supervisors and employees as required. 

• Evaluate needs and gaps in HR approaches and services for the business units and develop a plan to address requirements. 

• Proactively leverage & analyze key HR metrics (headcount and turnover etc), identify trends & issues and partner with the business to implement relevant solutions. 

• Maintain/enhance awareness of HR best practices and emerging issues both internally and externally to ensure our practices are relevant, market-competitive and supportive of the Extendicare Culture, Values and employment brand. 

• Work with business leaders to elevate knowledge of HR trends and leading practices and provide insights around areas of opportunity for improvement or performance.

Skills and Requirements: 

• University Degree or completion of a College Diploma Program in Human Resources. CHRP designation an asset. 

• 5+ years of relevant HR/LR work experience within a Human Resources department with at least 3 years as an HR/LR generalist. 

• Experience in unionized environment considered an asset. 

• Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. 

• Working knowledge of human resources policy and practice and of relevant HR and employment-related legislation in applicable jurisdictions, including laws pertaining to Employment Standards and Human Rights.

What you’ll do

The Fire Safety Consultant is responsible for ensuring CTC's fire prevention, preparedness, contingency planning, training, emergency management and investigations meet or exceed industry standards. The Fire Safety Consultant will take a key role coaching, counseling, and directing efforts to preserve life safety with a focus on legislative compliance.

This position will work closely with the operations teams to keep evacuation plans up to date, continuously evaluating and improving preparedness. The successful candidate will also act as a subject matter expert for all projects being implemented that have an impact on life safety, emergency management, fire prevention, detection, response, and investigation.  The successful candidate will work directly with internal and external technical disciplines to ensure all systems and processes are maintained according to industry standards. The consultant will work in a team environment, alongside the safety, security, operations, and maintenance teams.

• Exemplify a passion for safety, act as the subject matter expert and provide sound guidance to our internal stakeholders

• Conduct Fire Code/Building Egress compliance reviews and audits

• Foster a culture of safety and preparedness

• Work with the internal training department, Joint Health and Safety Committees and other internal stakeholders to design, coordinate, and facilitate fire safety training, drills, and exercises. Review all third-party Life Safety System inspection reports and ensure action plans to resolve any issues are implemented in a timely manner

• Monitor third party inspections and advise the site maintenance manager of non-conformances

• Provide internal consultation as the subject matter expert associated to the discipline

• Act as the liaison with external emergency services and emergency management partners

• In coordination with site JHSC’s and operations management, manage all Evacuation drill planning, execution, and measurement

• Audit fire plan/life safety system maintenance conformance

• Authorized approver for all life safety system modifications including system shutdown and impairment

• Conduct Fire Safety related risk assessments and audits

• On call and after-hours resource for all Fire system events requiring escalation

• Attend all site meetings involving the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)

• Investigate and analyze the cause of fire alarms and trouble, events and conditions and perform root cause and gap analysis, validate that the corrective actions are acceptable, closed and addressed within an appropriate timeframe with all stakeholders

• In conjunction with the internal training department, prepare training plans for fire prevention awareness, the use of fire extinguishers and evacuation

• Demonstrate leadership and initiative in the development of fire protection projects and action plans

• Manage and report on nonconformities and incidents. Actively participate in project requirements meetings

What you bring

• 2+ years of related work experience

• University/College degree or diploma related to Fire Protection and Fire Prevention

• Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or similar designation is an asset

• Familiarity and formal training in emergency preparedness or like disciplines

• Knowledge of fire protection and life safety including familiarity with building/fire/life safety codes, standards, and best practices

• Working knowledge of fire prevention, fire codes, building codes and associated standards

• Technically oriented; good analytical and organizational skills; attention to detail; able to complete tasks and projects in established timelines.

• Self-starter that exhibits a high level of initiative and resourcefulness
