We are seeking a visionary leader with deep cultural understanding, lived expertise and strategic acumen to join our team as Director, Indigenous Relations. This role is pivotal in shaping and strengthening our relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations across British Columbia. You will lead initiatives that enhance Indigenous housing outcomes, support asset management programs, and embed cultural awareness, relationships and respect into our corporate strategies.

As a senior leader, you will collaborate across departments and with external partners to develop frameworks, policies, and training programs that support meaningful engagement with First Nations and Indigenous Peoples. Your work will directly influence the planning and delivery of housing programs, capital projects, and sustainability initiatives that improve the quality of life for Indigenous communities.

Key Responsibilities

Indigenous Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and institutions.
  • Lead consultations with First Nations regarding the delivery of housing programs and services.
  • Develop corporate goals and strategies to enhance Indigenous partnerships and engagement.
  • Support staff training and cultural competency development.
  • Monitor trends, regulations, and legal matters affecting Indigenous relations and prepare briefings for senior leadership.
  • Represent the organization in government and community initiatives related to Indigenous housing.

Indigenous Asset Management

  • Lead strategic asset management initiatives in collaboration with Indigenous groups, including capital planning, maintenance, and energy management.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with First Nation leaders and steering committees to track progress and adapt programming.
  • Develop and implement capacity-building programs, including training plans, templates, and standards for asset management.
  • Provide expert advice on capital investment strategies and program delivery.

How You’ll Help:

  • Coach and develop team members using a positive attitude, collaboration, clear communication, and direction. 
  • Make informed decisions based on safety, service, and productivity standards, with an understanding of company processes, policies and procedures.

The scope of this position will be to supervise a time sensitive delivery operation.   This includes supervising day to day operations drivers, fleet & fleet maintenance, dispatch operations, reverse dock operations and on-site customer dock operations.  Ensure all operations remain compliant with the Safety and Compliance department. 

How You’ll Help: 

  • Working with the Dedicated Leadership Team, ensure that, as the company grows, operations capabilities meet or exceed all customer and corporate requirements for unit cost, service quality and responsiveness. 
  • Work closely with the Director Operations on operational plans, goals, and contributing to future innovations.
  • Provide daily guidance to staff, to ensure alignment with operational and customer expectations.
  • Develop a culture of safety, professionalism and service excellence in all areas of operations. Maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal and Provincial transportation requirements.
  • Ensure that all incidents (such as personal injuries; transportation collisions; spills etc) are promptly reported, documented, root causes identified and corrective/preventative measures implemented.
  • Will be responsible for the dispatch function to ensure drivers are scheduled to meet company deliveries on time.
  • Will manage the relationship with drivers, including, but not limited to driver schedules, equipment utilization, and driver contracts.
  • Ensure that a preventative maintenance program is in place and effective.
  • Provides mentoring and guidance to subordinates and other employees. Establishes individual objectives, conducts performance appraisal reviews, recommends salary action, and implements succession planning. Oversees and manages professional development to support leadership development program.
  • Utilize superior communications skills to motivate staff and develop effective peers, managers and clients.
  • Develop, implement and track on a monthly basis, an operational “dash board” for visual understanding of performance against plan elements.

Your Skills and Experience: 

  • Transportation background in dispatch, dock supervision
  • Equipment knowledge is an asset
  • Safety training interest, knowledge and skills is an asset 
  • Class 1 license preferred however not required
  • Computer literate in Excel and Word,
  • Must have a strong sense of urgency
  • Must be able to work under a flexible work schedule 
  • Must be a hands on operator, trainer, coach and mentor
  • Must be able to build and maintain relationships
  • Must be a self starter 
  • Must be customer focused individual
  • Must be willing to travel if required

As a Dock Lead Hand you will work to ensure service to customers is met, that costs to the company meet goals through the scheduling of dock staff, proper loading and unloading techniques, planning vehicles, and managing claims. 

How You’ll Help: 

  • Operate equipment in keeping with legislation, policies and procedures, ensuring safety and efficiency in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life. 
  • Load and unload cargo 
  • Promptly report all incidents or accidents to supervisor 
  • Ensure proper use of protective gear and safe operation of machinery. 
  • Report continuing performance and attendance issues to supervisor 
  • Answer questions and coach team members on all dock area processed or equipment operation. 
  • Maintain records and documents as required 
  • Assist in training workers on equipment operation and company safety policies and procedures. 
  • Effectively communicate issues to supervision, management and other leads/employees 
  • Assist whenever necessary and other duties that may be assigned. 
  • Provides basic leadership and guidance to dock workers to ensure safe and efficient handling of cargo. 
  • Relays information from the Operations Manager to Dock Workers and keeps the Operations Manager updated with dockside operations. 

Your Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education (general stream), or a combination of education and experience. 
  • Forklift certified 
  • Trained in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods 
  • WHMIS certified 
  • Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred, various roles within transportation would be beneficial  
  • Communication skills - advanced 
  • Computer skills – accuracy, MS products, AS400, web-based programs 
  • Demonstrated customer relationship skills 
  • Strong conflict resolution skills 
  • Able to work deadlines in a high transactional environment 
  • Ability to champion business needs in a collaborative manner to colleagues 
  • Results focused 
  • English, other languages an asset 
  • Able to work with little supervision
