AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

 

The incumbent is responsible for the building, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Corporation’s indoor cable plant. This includes all aspects of network cabling administration (design, procure, install, upgrade, modify, enhance, monitor, troubleshoot, and document) to ensure the City’s cabling infrastructure meets industry standards and accommodates business needs.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Network and Telecommunication, act as the first point of technical reference for members of the division.  Develop solutions and processes to improve client productivity.  Provide technical direction, advice and guidance to Technology Specialists and other IT staff.

 

  • Act as a project team member for projects of a technical nature which include researching, evaluating, testing, making recommendations, planning and assisting in the implementation, deployment and support of new and existing hardware and software solutions.
  • Assist with testing, packaging applications, software updates and fixes for deployment to computers enterprise-wide. Responsible for determining strategies for the distribution of these items.
  • Provide technical direction, advice and guidance to the Technology Specialists and other IT staff in the functional aspects of hardware and software solutions. This includes trouble-shooting, analysis and resolutions procedures.
  • Responsible in the review, prioritization and assignment of call tickets to the appropriate 2nd and 3rd level technical support staff.
  • Maintain the deployment management system (Microsoft SCCM or Crestron Fusion) for all new and existing drivers to all new and existing hardware currently in the Corporation.
  • Responsible for the acquisition and lifecycle management of productivity tools to be used enterprise-wide.
  • Create, update and provide documentation of the technology configuration and share the information by distributing to the support teams.
  • Assist in the administration and support of core IT systems.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as assigned.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

  • High School (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of over two and up to three years or equivalent in Computer Sciences / Engineering Technology or related discipline.
  • Over four (4) years, up to and including eight (8) years of progressive experience in a technical support environment.
  • Valid Ontario G driver’s license (asset).
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation Certification is an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge and technical support experience in: client-server software and/or browser based solutions; computer and/or audio visual hardware; Crestron systems, Microsoft Windows OS; Citrix ; Apple Mac OS; Microsoft System Centre; Microsoft Office and TCP/IP, Mobile device management; Microsoft Intune; Telephone Expense Management (TEM) systems administration; Apple iPad/iPhone IOS and devices; Android Tablet and Phone devices an asset.

  • Supervise quality assurance of electronic imaging to ensure compliance with Canadian and International document imaging standards;

  • Assist in the municipal election as needed by the Clerk’s Office; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • High School (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of three to four years, or equivalent in Records Management, Library Sciences or Public Administration.
  • Over two (2) year, up to and including four (4) years of experience in file classification, retention scheduling, archival/ record centre operations, and electronic records management, preferably in a municipal government or other government organization.
  • Knowledge of legislation applicable to records management and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, records management and imaging standards and processes.

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Platform Systems, the successful candidate is responsible for backup/recovery and providing multiple copies of protected data to different end-points. The candidate also assisted in providing resource requirements for the Enterprise (backup equipment and licenses, data protection software, storage arrays, and tape libraries). 
Ensure that data centre environmental equipment, PDUs, HVAC, UPS, power transfer switches, and generator monitoring and alerting are within thresholds. Ensure data centres are running at a high level of reliability and availability to our clients, including planning for future growth and sustainability. 

This position will require a hybrid work arrangement (minimum of 3 days of work in the office) for an undetermined period. Once the City’s offices fully re-open, you may be required to work out of Mississauga City Hall at 300 City Centre Drive (possibly on a rotational basis).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Backup and restore data for clients; restore deleted files or special backup requests for application upgrades or legal; restore corrupt or deleted emails for individual users.
  • Backup and recovery of MSSQL, Oracle, Linux, MS Exchange, Metallic M365, and SAP HANA to multiple locations, including SAN, tape libraries and cloud.
  • Recovering corrupt or deleted VMWare virtual or physical servers from backups as required
  • Server and Storage Provisioning: Building physical and virtual servers that host various software. Ensuring that servers are correctly added to the domain with appropriate storage resources assigned and maintained
  • Data Centre proactive monitoring and operational support; Troubleshooting and monitoring data centre using various tools, including SolarWinds, replacing failed systems equipment for 7/24/365 uptime and working with external computer vendors to resolve issues and vendor health checks. Work with facilities to ensure the health of the data centre environmental equipment by coordinating scheduled and preventative maintenance activities such as generator and UPS tests and being on-site where required to monitor. Informing Facilities of issues.
  • Security, Patching, firmware and keeping Infrastructure updated for the Enterprise backup infrastructure.
  • As part of a team and as required, updating firmware on systems, storage and operating systems to prevent issues from occurring, allowing the servers and equipment to continue to run optimally.
  • Work with clients and vendors to repair and troubleshoot infrastructure equipment related to backup and restore software and equipment.
  • Data Centre equipment, life cycle and decommissioning. Manage equipment, including installing, receiving, asset tagging, keeping systems up to date, and decommissioning equipment using industry best practices.
  • Participate in technical projects as a core or part of extended teams as it pertains to backup and recovery solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, along with SOPs and technical diagrams.
  • Collaborate with IT Architects to build backup and related infrastructure as required.
  • Work closely with Cyber Security to maintain and improve security posture
  • The role will include operational work, managing assigned work requests, providing 3rd-level support to IT Helpdesk incidents\tickets and occasional project work
  • Comply with all IT service levels, change management, incident management, standards and policies
  • Work independently with minimal supervision or as part of a group on projects with set timelines.

Skills and Qualifications

Create secure and reliable storage structures that allow business applications to utilize City data.  Plan, develop, forecast, manage and implement a process to monitor and enhance the overall performance of the databases and business applications, ensuring availability.  Manage and monitor database security administration and service performance.  Provide technical leadership and guidance to Information Technology and business units.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Configure and provide database performance and general health / capacity monitoring as an ongoing task for the City to conduct business in a safe, reliable and stable environment. 
  • Monitor reports generated from the system and take necessary action to resolve incidents that may affect the continuity of business. 
  • Monitor vendor notifications for patches and alerts - review, evaluate impact to City data and infrastructure, and make necessary recommendations. 
  • Lead and coordinate other City staff to implement changes i.e. version upgrade of database where a major upgrade could span over two years and a minor upgrade could span over several months. 
  • Tune databases for optimal performance and implementing database load balancing technologies. 
  • Provide maintenance on databases for optimal performance i.e. rebuilding of databases/indexes.
  • Support development and implementation of projects - performing installations, database loading, data conversions, promoting application changes to various environments, testing, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database problems in a timely manner.
  • Design and Implement the electronic storage structures using industry standard software such as Oracle Database Server, SQL Server and Cloud related databases.
  • Configure to ensure that the data in these structures is reliable and secure by adhering to policies and guidelines regarding database security to meet legislative, audit and Privacy Act requirements i.e. audit database security for projects to meet audit requirements. 
  • Review, recommend, plan and implement database patches to mitigate issues and to ensure the databases are maintained in supported versions. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Computer Science or related discipline with a minimum of five years of database administration using Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and Cloud related databases.
  • Database related certifications related to Oracle, SQL Server, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, etc.
  • Detailed knowledge of Oracle, SQL Server database and application server concepts and design.
  • Thorough knowledge of conceptual, logical data repository development and management, database administration and data architecture technologies i.e. desktop client, web based, cloud computing.
  • In-depth knowledge of relational objects such as tables, stored procedures, triggers and DTS/SSIS packages is required.
  • Knowledge of related technologies such as AD, Windows OS, Amazon, Azure, Dynamics, MySQL, .Net, Oracle and Microsoft products, and IIS application Server. 
  • Must understand the impact of new applications on existing information technology infrastructures (hardware platforms, communications network, standards, security, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of interface methods for database and enterprise applications.
  • Must have an overall knowledge of the City's technical infrastructure i.e. Servers, Windows, operating systems, and Communication networks in place.
  • Excellent technical, project management, analytical and communication skills.
  • May require some light lifting of supplies/materials.

Job Summary

The City of Mississauga is looking for a passionate and talented IT Network Specialist to join our Network Data team.  Reporting to the Network Data team Supervisor, you will be supporting IT team members and interacting with business units to implement and resolve IT issues.  This will include, but not limited to, resolving Helpdesk tickets, implementing firewall rules, pre-configuring and replacing networking equipment, and project assignments.

This position will be required to work in a hybrid work arrangement.  Our offices are located at Mississauga City Hall, 300 City Centre Drive in Mississauga.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Achieve service excellence as part of a high-performance team working with 50\50 operational work and project delivery. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and high level of motivation and professionalism as well as ability to work with various IT groups and client facing teams is essential.
  • Participate as a team member to provide Network support to the business areas. 
  • Ensure 100% availability and acceptable performance of City technology by proactively monitoring all City Systems and applications and taking immediate remedial action to address any deficiencies.  
  • Responsible for maintaining all systems owned by the Network team at an optimal level of performance.  
  • Develop, prepare and maintain supporting documentation of Network infrastructure systems\ applications, SOP’s, configuration documentation, RFC’s. 
  • Proactively monitor automated alerts and respond with timely resolution to Systems deficiencies and problems.
  • Occasional work outside of regular business is a requirement of the job.  On-call duty based on a rotational schedule may be a requirement.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with Cisco Catalyst, Nexus Core Switches, Cisco IOS,  LAN, WAN ,Wireless and  ISP Connectivity is required; 
  • Demonstrated experience with Cisco ACI would be preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience with automation tools (ie Ansible or Terraform) would be preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience with scripting languages such as Python or JSON;.
  • Demonstrated experience of  authentication protocols(Radius,TACACS),  Load Balancers(Preferably F5), Cisco ASA/NGFW Firewalls , ASA/NGFW VPN  technologies;
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Computer Science, Networking, Information Technology or related discipline  with 3 to 5 years of experience in the use, setup and support of an enterprise WAN, LAN and WLAN Cisco centric network infrastructure; 
  • Must have experience in the design, install, setup, maintain and support expertise in routing and switching skills, TCP/IP protocols and aspects of networking (L2, L3, LAN and WLAN);  
  • Exposure and proficient with HSRP, BGP and EIGRP/OSPF routing protocols, SNMP, network performance and testing tools and other protocols is preferred;
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools(Cisco Prime,Solarwinds) and the ability to review logs and make recommendations;
  • Must have solid technical, analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills; 
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills and demonstrated ability to deal effectively with clients; 
  • Possess expert troubleshooting and problem solving skills and ability to liaise with clients;
