As the first line of support, Heavy Equipment Technicians are an integral member of Canadian Natural’s Mining team. You will directly support mine maintenance goals and objectives at our Albian Mine. In this role, you will collaborate with and work alongside field and shop maintenance crews to ensure that all heavy equipment is optimized and maintained. Key Accountabilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and clean heavy equipment as assigned

  • Make recommendations regarding repairs and methods for improvement
  • Interpret and complete both scheduled and unscheduled work orders
  • Contribute to the ongoing reliability of all heavy equipment and complete preventative maintenance requirements
  • Test repaired equipment to verify proper maintenance

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of working on mining equipment, specifically supporting off road heavy equipment
  • Heavy Equipment Technician Journeyperson Certificate in Alberta and/or an Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Basic understanding of computer based Mine Maintenance Planning Programs and Microsoft Office suite

How you will make contributions that matter:

  • Manage, develop, and mentor employees by leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes for recurring issues.
  • Enhance departmental performance, productivity, and cost control by identifying recurring problems and preparing preventative and scheduled work orders within a determined timeframe.
  • Conduct trend analysis, tracking, and forecasting to determine the lifecycle of equipment and parts.

  • Post-secondary Diploma or degree in a related field or trade certification (millwright or electrician preferred)

Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing journeyperson level duties in the mechanical service, maintenance and repair of all types of vehicles, heavy duty equipment and agricultural/industrial equipment and other associated equipment. This position reports to the Coordinator, Fleet Maintenance.  The City of Regina has three separate garages, a light truck / agricultural garage, a heavy truck garage and a heavy equipment garage.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspects, maintains, overhauls, and services all types of trucks and specialized bodies and equipment.
  • Performs assessments and/or conduct tests to determine vehicle and equipment problems.
  • Performs repairs to all vehicle/equipment systems (hydraulics, brakes, diesel/gas engines including injection systems, Allison automatic transmissions, manual transmissions, drive lines, cooling, electrical, etc.)
  • Performs SGI Safety Inspections on heavy trucks.
  • Assesses condition of vehicle parts and components and submits replacement order lists.
  • Conducts operational and/or road testing of completed repairs and final adjustments to meet equipment performance standards.
  • Trains, assists and supervises other tradespersons including apprentices as required.
  • Performs related work as required.

Key Qualifications

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through successful completion of a Journeypersons Certificate in one of the following trades: Truck and Transport, Heavy Duty Mechanics, Agricultural Machinery Technician or Automotive Service Technician, combined with a minimum two (2) years experience in their respective mechanical trade at the journeyperson level.
  • Knowledge of fuel, air brakes, electrical, hydraulic, lubricating, cooling, ignition, injection, transmission and differential systems.
  • Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine systems.
  • Ability to effectively use all testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to perform difficult mechanical repairs without technical direction or supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret related technical information and complete required reports.
  • Ability to direct, train and provide support to other Tradespersons and apprentices.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, along with communicating effectively in oral and written form.

  • Journeyperson Technicians independently repair and maintain trailers (see above) and provide general direction, guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians.
  • Maintenance and repair of trailer bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hub caps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc.
  • Documentation of all findings and work done.
  • Lead Journeyperson Technicians provide work direction for all team members and act as escalation point for complex maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians

About This Opportunity

The ASRS Mechanic will own the entire process related to the operation and maintenance of the ASRS (Automated Storage & Retrieval System) equipment including, but not limited to (racking, cranes, elevators, SVL’s, and all conveying systems). The ASRS Mechanic will also be responsible addressing any upset conditions, such as stuck or tipped pallets in the racking or on associated equipment as well as general housekeeping of the area and Autonomous Maintenance (AM) tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of the ASRS and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical equipment related to the ASRS.
  • Collaborating closely with electricians on electrical tasks and providing assistance as needed for various electrical jobs.
  • Perform documented regular preventative maintenance inspections on all mechanical equipment. 
  • Participate in scheduled parts counts.
  • Maintain housekeeping of the ASRS area to GMP standards.
  • Identify and report identified hazards and fulfill all Health & Safety, WHMIS, Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) policy requirements. 
  • Work with others cooperatively, safely and in a structured and team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Journeymen Red Seal Millwright certification required.

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Millwright is required.

  • Ability to read, interpret and update Electrical and Mechanical drawings / schematics is required. 

  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques and procedures to maximize the reliability of the equipment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have the ability to work rotating shifts (12hr shifts rotating nights and days) and overtime when required to support a continuous operation.

  • Demonstrated ability to listen and follow instruction, with excellent attention to detail, while being adaptable to changes in a fast-paced environment.

  • Electrical equipment knowledge - computer hardware and software, Proficient in utilizing a variety of computer software and applications.

  • Ability to work at heights, and successful completion of Fall Arrest training.
