KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Security
 

  • Responsible for first line protection of personnel and ALBERTA INFRASTRUCTURE property.

  • Liaises with tenants, customers, general public, contractors, police, fire and ambulance services to prevent or reduce hazards to property and personnel.
  • Detects and reports anomalies to systems, policies, practices and procedures that could constitute threats or hazards to ALBERTA INFRASTRUCTURE property or the health and safety of personnel.
  • Aids and assists people in need by giving directions, finding lost persons, rendering First Air or CPR or as requested in support of police, fire or ambulance services.
  • While situated at Security Desk meet visitors and issue Security Passes.
  • Direct delivery personnel as required.

Documentation

  • Writes accurate, clear and concise reports and suggests/recommends improvements to ALBERTA INFRASTRUCTURE policies and procedures pertaining to job duties.
  • Assists in development and annual review of Security Standing Orders

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations.
  • Very observant and perceptive.
  • Knowledge of, and skills in, crowd control in emergency situations and at special events.

3. May counsel and discipline personnel as appropriate; seeks advice from company management or designated representatives as appropriate; meets personally with employees and documents counseling and disciplinary actions. 
4. Assists in the training of Mobile Guards and review of post orders. 
5. Assists in the submission of payroll and personnel information to the company as designated.
6. In conjunction with company management or designated company representatives acts to ensure adequate security coverage of all posts. 
7. Prepares, files and submits various reports as required. 
8. Inspects posts as scheduled and meets with subordinates to outline tasks and responsibilities. 9. Meets with client representatives as scheduled or as needed to provide assurance that all security requirements are being met and to provide quality customer service. 
10. As assigned, in accordance with applicable company policies and procedures and in compliance with provincial and federal laws, carries out lead or supervisory duties that can include some or all of the following: interviewing, orienting and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and, making hiring and termination recommendations. 

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY 
Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference, depending upon the nature of the position. 

 
MINIMUM HIRING STANDARDS 
• Must be at least 18 years of age. 
• Must have a reliable means of communication (i.e., pager or phone). 
• Must have a reliable means of transportation (public or private). 
• Must have the legal right to work in the Canada. 
• Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English and French in the province of Quebec. 
• Must have a High School Diploma or GED. If not, must be willing to complete the GED program within six months.

Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience Requirements

  • Grade 10 education
  • Possession of the following valid qualifications:
    • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option), 
    • CPR Level C
    • Red Cross Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care Award; and
    • Lifesaving Instructor Certification is considered an asset.
    • Six month's related experience instructing and as a lifeguard preferred.

Position Overview:

Wages: $ 18.00-$25.00/hr (depending on site and experience)

Shift timings: Weekdays, Weekends, Fixed or Rotational shifts (Days, Afternoons, Nights)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform access control provision duties, verify visitors coming on-site.
  • Escort medical staff including paramedics, police and firefighters when required.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and be prepared to perform CPR and AED if needed.
  • Unlock and lock doors for access by authorized persons.
  • Follow security breach procedures by notifying supervisors or other appropriate personnel when security breaches occur.
  • Monitor CCTV footage and cameras for irregularities and perform dispatch duties for the site including emergency response.
  • Perform foot patrols inside and outside the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Valid Ontario Security License
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • 1-5 years of Security Guard experience.
  • Thorough understanding of security protocols and procedures including emergency response.
  • G class driver's license OR personal vehicle required for some positions
  • Customer service experience is a strong asset for data center roles.

  • Protects evidence or scene of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; sets up barriers and signage, and provides direction or information to others. 
  • Prepares logs or reports as required for patrol route; writes and/or types of reports and/or enters information in a computer using standard grammar; inspects security control logs and takes action as required. 
  • Observes and reports incidents or suspicious activity to client representatives, company management, life/safety personnel or public safety authorities as appropriate for the circumstances and/or as required. 
  • Responds to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents or conditions following procedures established for assignment, by the company, or through training or certification. 
  • Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required. 
 
 QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have a Valid Security Guard License.
  • Must have a valid G Driver's License with a clean driving record (min 5 years).
  • Postsecondary education in Police Foundations, Criminology or equivalent, is an asset.
  • Must be available to work rotational shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Proficiency in using security equipment and technology.
