Responsible for the instruction of the Driver Competencies curriculum to selected Driver Interns on a daily basis. The Driver Trainer will be responsible for teaching, coaching and mentoring the candidate evaluating performance progress safety awareness.

How You’ll Help

• Act as a trainer, coach and mentor to Driver candidates selected for the Driver Internship program
• Teach and instruct candidates on the Driver Core Competencies to master the competencies in order for the Driver Candidate can operate safely and independently on public roads and highways
• Providing coaching and instruction on the “Rules of the Road” to each Driver candidate ensuring the candidates fully understands the regulatory requirements for documentation required to operate under a Class 1/Commercial Drivers License (CDL
• Ensure the Driver Candidate can safely and effectively operate the electronic systems part of the vehicle including tractors and trailers, dock doors, security systems at terminals 
• Provide program performance reporting to internal stakeholders
• Submit daily and weekly competency assessments for the Driver Trainer Candidates on progress of the Driver Competencies
• Promote safety and instill a safety mindset with the Driver Trainee at all times

Your Skills & Experience: 

• Minimum Secondary School completion and completion of all required safety related programs (i.e.: Winter Driving, Air Brakes, Hazardous Loads).
• An alternate suitable combination of education and experience may also be considered. 
• Minimum of 5 years’ driving experience and 2-years as a Driver Instructor in the transportation industry or a combination with a strong safety record.
• Passionate about trucking and the opportunities the industry and the Company presents

  • Solid computer skills related to truck systems (i.e: ELD, Peoplenet,etc.)

The scope of this position is to be responsible for dispatching units to pickup and delivery freight, monitoring the performance of drivers and ensuring customer timelines are adhered to.

• Assign appointment freight deliveries to trucks, manifest shipments, and check for expedited shipments. 
• Answer phones from drivers and customers.

• Coordinate drivers to come back for second round of deliveries. 
• Coordinate daily P&D requirements. 
• Monitor driver performance and report finding to manager.

• Perform clerical duties for compliance and broker pay as required.

This position maintains a safe, reliable, and cost-efficient fleet of vehicles, both ground support equipment and street vehicles. He/She ensures proper use and care of physical assets, helps prevent equipment failures, controls costs, manages external vendor relationships, works closely with auto mechanics and internal customers, and performs regular equipment and facility audits. As a Truck Driver III in Pavement Operations during the summer season and in district for winter season, you will be responsible for the operation of a truck and auxiliary equipment rated with an Alberta Government licensed gross weight in excess of 13,000 kg. 

Tasks may include: 

• Operate trucks above a GVWR or 13,000 kg with a trailer less than 4600 kg, such as tandem axle truck, sweeper, flusher and walk plow, safely and efficiently, following truck routes as required
• Deliver people, materials, equipment and parts to field crews 
• Haul, load, and move equipment and materials, including asphalt, between work sites 
• Conduct daily maintenance on equipment, such as cleaning and/or greasing according to manufacturer or City maintenance schedules 
• General labor duties, such as manual sidewalk cleaning, pothole, and asphalt repairs, flagging, and other duties as operationally required 
• Complete paperwork and reports, such as defect slips, manifest logs, and safety and damage reports
