Job Details

The Mobile Equipment Technician repairs all warehouse mobile equipment, including counterbalance, turret, reach and tugger trucks, propane-powered scissor lifts/booms and automated guided vehicles (AGVs).

•    Perform service and preventative maintenance on all mobile equipment within the D.C.
•    Maintain parts and work records on computerized maintenance system (MAXIMO)
•    Troubleshoot mobile equipment & systems using schematics, detailed drawings or manufacturer's specifications
•    Troubleshoot and Repair: electric motors and combustion engines, electrical battery charging systems and mobile equipment charging distribution systems, electrical vehicle control systems, vehicle power trains (power shift transmissions, torque converters, pumps and linkages), brake systems, steering systems, hydraulic systems, load masts and systems, and Automated Guided Vehicle controls and power systems.
•    Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
•    Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and lift trucks to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of mobile equipment
•    Inspect and examine mobile equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions
•    Assist in other Maintenance department repairs as required while working in a safe and effective manner and adhere to all safety policies and procedures
•    Respond to truck breakdowns in a timely manner and perform repairs with minimal supervision, taking responsibility and decision making to see the job to completion within time demands
•    Follow Maintenance Quality and Standard Operating Procedures as established

What you bring:

•    Certificate of Qualification:
    Ontario Powered Lift Truck Technician (Ontario #282E) or
    Automotive Service Technician (Ontario #310S) and relevant experience or
    Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (Ontario #421A) and relevant experience 
•    Able to work at heights up to 45 feet, to stand for long periods with occasional laying, stooping and crouching and frequent heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
•    Background or experience in electrical systems or electronics and demonstrated experience in vehicle repair and troubleshooting is an asset
•    Experience with computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) is an asset


Ability to work Wed/Thurs/Fri for 2 weeks and then Wed/Thur/ Fri/ Sat on the 3rd week (7:00pm-7:00am)

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Vehicle Maintenance this position coordinates the day-to-day activity of various disciplines to ensure all buses are safe, operational and clean, and that they meet Corporate and regulatory standards.

 

  1. Provide daily supervision of vehicle maintenance staff and equipment. Is readily available to answer staff questions, provide on-the-job training and clear instructions. Motivate staff, mediate and investigate root causes to resolve conflicts. Accountable for scheduling and coordination of staff activities to ensure efficient operation while holding staff accountable, meeting standards and in full compliance of regulations.
  2. Ensure accurate record keeping and reporting of a wide range of performance indicators. Ensures completion and submission of Ministry of Transportation Inspections, Drive Clean program, follow-up and report on Joint Health and Safety inspections and issues, accident damage, warranty, manufacturer recalls, Transport Canada recalls and WSIB forms.
  3. Provide leadership by creating programs, schedules and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for staff. Ensure SOPs and equipment are up-to-date to maximize productivity without compromising standards and safety. Engage the services of outside suppliers to purchase just-in-time repair parts and to perform services. Oversee the inventory of spare parts through a stockroom with a perpetual inventory and procurement.
  4. Recommend changes in on-site procedures to respond to regulatory changes (i.e. safety) and to meet customer service expectations. Identify training and development needs of the team, and inform Supervisor.
  5. Share information with Supervisor and others regularly. Assist with budget preparation and setting financial controls. Represent function at meetings and as required on committees. Provide information for RFQs and RFPs. Respond to questions from internal and external stakeholders.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum high school (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent
  • Ontario Motor Vehicle Mechanics Licence, class 310T

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years experience in a Vehicle Maintenance environment, Heavy Duty Vehicles preferred, with 2 years experience as a team lead or supervisor in a unionized environment preferred

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Good working knowledge of automotive and heavy truck parts
  • Ability to understand and document procedures (SOPs) in English language
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety (i.e. WHMIS) regulations and other applicable legislation an asset (i.e. Highway Traffic Act)

- Fabrication experience and ability to weld in all positions along with rigging and 5S experience.

- Certificate of Apprenticeship (Ontario or Canadian equivalent)

People Leadership

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

 

  • College Diploma/Certification required
  • Five (5+) years of relevant experience working in HVAC, Property Management or equivalent. 
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of individuals and previous people leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience administering processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance
  • Knowledgeable in building mechanical and electrical equipment and system troubleshooting and resolution skills
  • Current knowledge of Building codes and standards
  • Possesses a high level of environmental, health and safety mindset. Keeps abreast of current knowledge of fire, life, safety and building codes and standards and ability to research and apply related codes and Standards

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate be able to adjust, repair or replace parts and components of commercial transport truck systems also inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions
  • The candidate should be able to adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems also adjust, repair or replace parts and components of truck-trailer systems
  • The candidate should be able to diagnose faults and malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unit also repair or replace mechanical units or components
  • The candidate should be able to test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s specifications also perform scheduled maintenance service
  • The candidate should be able to test and adjust units to specifications also advise customers on work performed and future repair requirements
  • The candidate should be able to complete reports to record problems and work performed also review work orders and discuss work with supervisor

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and code specifications to determine lay-out of industrial equipment and installations
  • Conduct planned preventive & predictive maintenance and keep maintenance records
  • Actively participate in preventive maintenance program on building equipment processing equipment daily
  • Efficient production equipment set up, inspection and shutdown of all related equipment when required, including process changeovers
  • Assist in planning, organizing of work activities (drawing interpretation, parts preparation)
  • Program, troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial equipment and automation including PLCs, HMI, frequency drives, temperature control and other related devices

What You’ll Bring:

  • Certified Journeyman Electrician with 5+ years’ experience. Preference to those with proof of completing the Industrial Apprenticeship Program
  • Knowledge of conveyors, high speed slicers, pumps / compressor, electrical / electronic controls and high speed packaging equipment
