Job Summary

Under the leadership of the Recreation Technician 8 and 10, this position performs lifeguard duties and provides instructional lessons in accordance with the health and safety procedures and standards established and/or adopted by the City of Saskatoon.

 

Term: 40 Permanent available Part Time position(s).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction using effective and appropriate teaching methodology and safe participant procedures for aquatic programs. 
  • Prepares lesson plans for swimming lessons according to instructional standards. 
  • Completes worksheets, takes attendance, and completes participant progress reports. 
  • Safeguards public admission and rental group activities and responds to emergency situations according to standards. 
  • Participates in the in-service training programs established to maintain fitness levels and lifeguard standards. 
  • Maintains a hazard-free, clean, and safe pool and work area. 
  • Provides education to participants and the public about safety in and around the water, e.g. bulletin boards, handouts and tours. 
  • Conducts daily safety checks of play equipment, emergency first aid equipment, and performs daily water tests. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 education. 
  • Possession of the following valid qualifications: 
  • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option), 
  • CPR Level C; - Red Cross Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care Award; 
  • Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Certification. 
  • Lifesaving Instructor Certification.
  • Six month’s related experience instructing and as a lifeguard preferred. 
  • Knowledge of current lifeguard techniques, including first aid and emergency procedures, and instructional techniques, methods and practices. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, supervisor and the public. 
  • Ability to demonstrate skills and techniques required and maintain fitness level necessary. • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with supervisor, staff and the public. • Ability to apply theory to practical learning situations. 
  • Ability to evaluate and adjust lesson plans to meet the participant needs. • Ability to work with the assigned, designated participant group. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and provide direction during emergency situations. 
  • Written verification of current aquatic qualifications is required with application.

Under the general supervision and direction of Corporate Security Management, you will be responsible for carrying out security duties as a front-line (Part Time) Security Guard for the City of Toronto's Corporate Security Section, at various City owned and/or operated facilities, in order to protect life, City assets and facilities.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

  • Provides security services to City owned and/or operated properties through the operation of various security systems and patrolling, including responding and effectively handling emergency and non-emergency, security and law enforcement calls, maintaining the utmost confidentiality at all times
  • Monitors and patrols assigned areas of City owned and/or operated properties and the surrounding grounds through physical patrols and by monitoring various security systems Observes, investigates, and acts on possible breaches of security, criminal code violations, fire and safety hazards, illegal entry, theft, and malfunction or interruption of utilities, machinery or equipment
  • Responds to public inquiries and represents the City of Toronto Corporate Security Division by promoting security services that contribute positively to the results of the division, and corporate vision
  • Conducts security audits and assessments providing advice to enhance physical security Informs the designated authorities in the event of security, fire or health emergencies. Activates fire alarm and safety systems and assists in evacuation procedures. Escorts designated authorities, police, fire and EMS personnel to emergency locations Provides security for visiting dignitaries, protocol functions, demonstrations, labour disruptions, council meetings and special events
  • Conducts open-up and facility lock-down and security testing
  • Screens unauthorized persons/staff and may be required to escort and/or physically remove offenders and trespassers from City owned/operated properties. Legally arrests individuals as required and surrenders them to Police as soon as possible
  • Responds to security and fire alarms in City vehicle and performs proactive patrols at City owned or operated sites
  • Responds to public inquiries and performs guarded tours along designated routes; records same. Assists in the movement of visitors, employees and dignitaries
  • Records and maintains log books of daily activities, unusual or special occurrences, and issuance of equipment
  • Receives and records complaints, conducts investigations, prepares incidents reports and conducts follow up investigations
  • Conducts investigations and testifies at court proceedings as required
  • Assigns daily pass and /or temporary cards. Provides access to authorized visitors i.e. contractors, guests
  • Administers basic first aid and emergency CPR operating automated external defibrillator Assists Supervisors in the development of site specific policies and procedures to provide and enhance Security at City facilities
  • Enforces bylaws and various Acts, Codes and City policies such as the Trespass to
  • Property Act and the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Resolves conflict situations including staff and general public complaints and disputes Maintains current knowledge of required legislation, resources, and City policies and procedures
  • Complies with all applicable requirements contained in the Private Security and Investigative Service Act

 

Key Qualifications:

 

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Experience providing facility security including the use of security systems and key systems.
  2. Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function or the approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Security Guard License in accordance with the Ontario Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005, S.O. 2005, c. 34.
  4. Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR level 'C' and be certified to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  5. Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class "G" Driver's License and obtain a City's Driver's Permit is an asset.
  6. Strong knowledge of legislative policies such as the Criminal Code, Trespass to Property Act and WHMIS.
  7. Knowledge of relevant Security policies such as patrolling and emergency response, Private Security and Investigative Services Act.
  8. Highly developed interpersonal and customer service skills, including conflict resolution, problem solving, decision making and situational assessment.
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to respond to staff and public in a courteous and effective manner.
  10. Ability to prepare and maintain clear, concise, and legible security reports and detailed records.
  11. Demonstrated experience working with a computer and the ability to utilize a variety of software, e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel, mainframe systems, divisional databases, etc.
  12. Ability to compile accurate information and prepare effective reports and correspondence using a computer.
  13. Ability to operate and monitor computerized security equipment.
  14. Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  1. Ability to use various tools and equipment related to the role including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) i.e. baton, ballistic resistive vest, handcuffs, two-way radios, etc.
  2. Ability to pass a thorough medical and physical examination.
  3. Ability to successfully complete mandatory training and recertification as required by Corporate Security including, but not limited to, City of Toronto Use of Force and Foundational certification, management of resistive behaviour and de-escalation training, defensive tactics, handcuffing and baton use, Standard First Aid, CPR level 'C' and AED, WHMIS and other position related training.

Qualifications

  • Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade
  • Journeyman plumber and gasfitter certification recognized in Alberta with a minimum of six (6) years’ journeyman experience
  • Registered Plumbing & Gas Safety Codes Officer in the Province of Alberta
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle License
  • Minimum of 3 years as a Registered Safety Codes Officer with both plans examination and field inspection
  • Knowledge of standard methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment employed in the plumbing and gas fitter trades with experience involving projects of any size
  • Full knowledge of codes, the Safety Codes Act and Permit Regulation

Our Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) Office is seeking a Project Manager to support all activities associated with Security, Cybersecurity and Safety such as directing and leading the TA (Technical Advisor), assist in developing Project Agreement requirements, set the vision and develop the Project strategies for Security and Safety, coordinating with Contractors and support the project activities through all stages and phases of the Project. As a Project Manager, provide comprehensive engineering and project management services associated with the delivery of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension Program
 
What will I be doing?
  • Manage the delivery of the Schedule 29 as part of the ECWE Project Agreement focusing on Safety, Security and System Assurance. Ensure project compliance with internal MX processes, safety, security, and cybersecurity international standards.
  • Facilitate collaboration between internal Metrolinx Stakeholders and Technical Advisors to evaluate safety, security, or cybersecurity-related plans, governing processes, and reports prepared by the Technical Advisor or Contractors.
  • Manage relationships with External Stakeholders, coordinating safety, security, and cybersecurity documentation reviews, approvals, and resolution of technical issues for the Project.
  • Contribute to establishing the vision and formulating strategies for project safety, security, and cybersecurity.
  • Participate in the development and assessment of safety, security, and cybersecurity certification proposals and review the comprehensiveness and accuracy of related Submittals.
  • Deliver the Project within scope, on budget and on schedule.
  • Support the Project Delivery Team in the development of Project scope and requirements, Project controls, Project Schedule and budget management, contract administration, quality and risk management, and progress monitoring/ reporting.
  • Evaluate project progress and compliance with Project Agreement requirements, identifying any deficiencies and opportunities for improvement, and providing recommendations for solutions. 
  • Assist with project management of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Completion of a university degree in Electrical Engineering – or a combination of relevant education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Professional Engineering License (P. Eng) and Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrates experience in managing Projects involving safety, security, and cybersecurity processes, standards, and applications.
  • Experience of Rapid Transit system planning, design development and execution, and delivery to Revenue Service. 
  • Experience in project management principles and practices, including budget and schedule controls, and monitor project activities for adherence to timelines, budgets, and project performance objectives.
  • Knowledge of identification and management of project risks and mitigations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to monitor contractor performance and contract compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and contract terms.
  • Knowledge of CMREA, CENELEC EN 50126, 50128, 50129, security and cybersecurity standards and procedures applicable to working in an operating Railway environment.
  • Excellent oral, written/presentation, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively in a large, integrated, matrix team environment.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Supervisor VI (Sewer Operations), this position is responsible for the inspection and condition coding of sanitary and storm sewer lines used in the annual planning of sewer preservation programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs CCTV inspections of underground infrastructure as part of the City’s annual condition rating program.

  • Provides coding of all inspection observations to NASSCO PACP standards.

  • Operates and maintains CCTV and auxiliary robotic equipment in a safe and professional manner.

  • Ensures high quality inspection results by determining the optimum method of conducting inspections, setting up and adjusting equipment prior to entry, controlling and monitoring the progress of the CCTV unit and preparing reports in a timely manner.

  • Directs and performs set-up work required to conduct video inspections of proposed construction or maintenance activities. 

  • Ensures that video recordings and photographs accurately display the condition of the pipelines.

  • Operates manual pushrod cameras for the inspection of underground utilities.

  • Operates pumps and miscellaneous equipment as required.

  • Maintains comprehensive digital and paper records of inspections.

  • Supervises the activities of staff assigned to assist with inspection operations.

  • Participates in on-going training, including operator certification training as directed. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience in sewer operations and maintenance 

  • Possession of NASSCO PACP Certification within three months of hire

  • Possession of, Level 2 Wastewater Collection and ability to obtain Level 2 Water Distribution Operator Certification would be considered an asset issued by the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board.

  • Knowledge of the technical and engineering principles and practices related to the work assigned.

  • Knowledge of engineering terminology and techniques related to the work assigned.

  • Knowledge of the materials, equipment, etc., involved in the area of specialization.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing,

  • Ability to make arithmetic and field calculations as required.

  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, contractors and civic employees.

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and under all weather conditions as required by work assignments.

  • Ability to perform confined entries complete with necessary fall protection equipment and air quality monitoring equipment. 

  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

  • Skill in the care and use of office and field equipment including computers and on-line computer terminals.
