Job Description:

  • Service, troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment
  • Service, troubleshoot, repair and rebuild mechanical equipment (including general maintenance to full rebuilds of CAT engines)
  • Assist in fulfilling our customer service commitment

 

Qualifications:

  • Interprovincial Electrician Certification
  • Interprovincial Heavy Equipment Technician Certification would be consisted an asset
  • Previous experience on heavy duty equipment will be required
  • Power Generation experience is required
  • Generator experience would be considered an asset
  • Team player capable of working with minimal supervision
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organization, and communication skills and a commitment to safety

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Vehicle Maintenance this position coordinates the day-to-day activity of various disciplines to ensure all buses are safe, operational and clean, and that they meet Corporate and regulatory standards.

 

  1. Provide daily supervision of vehicle maintenance staff and equipment. Is readily available to answer staff questions, provide on-the-job training and clear instructions. Motivate staff, mediate and investigate root causes to resolve conflicts. Accountable for scheduling and coordination of staff activities to ensure efficient operation while holding staff accountable, meeting standards and in full compliance of regulations.
  2. Ensure accurate record keeping and reporting of a wide range of performance indicators. Ensures completion and submission of Ministry of Transportation Inspections, Drive Clean program, follow-up and report on Joint Health and Safety inspections and issues, accident damage, warranty, manufacturer recalls, Transport Canada recalls and WSIB forms.
  3. Provide leadership by creating programs, schedules and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for staff. Ensure SOPs and equipment are up-to-date to maximize productivity without compromising standards and safety. Engage the services of outside suppliers to purchase just-in-time repair parts and to perform services. Oversee the inventory of spare parts through a stockroom with a perpetual inventory and procurement.
  4. Recommend changes in on-site procedures to respond to regulatory changes (i.e. safety) and to meet customer service expectations. Identify training and development needs of the team, and inform Supervisor.
  5. Share information with Supervisor and others regularly. Assist with budget preparation and setting financial controls. Represent function at meetings and as required on committees. Provide information for RFQs and RFPs. Respond to questions from internal and external stakeholders.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum high school (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent
  • Ontario Motor Vehicle Mechanics Licence, class 310T

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years experience in a Vehicle Maintenance environment, Heavy Duty Vehicles preferred, with 2 years experience as a team lead or supervisor in a unionized environment preferred

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Good working knowledge of automotive and heavy truck parts
  • Ability to understand and document procedures (SOPs) in English language
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety (i.e. WHMIS) regulations and other applicable legislation an asset (i.e. Highway Traffic Act)

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of all systems associated with CPKC's Work Equipment group, including mechanical, electrical and hydraulic machinery/equipment.

  • Proficient in standards, codes, best practices, safe work policies and practices.
  • Responsible for safe and conscientious use of equipment including forklift, skid steer loader, scissor lifts, power tools along with proficiency in safe methods of hoisting and rigging at all times.
  • Mechanical equipment inspections, troubleshooting, repairing and preventative maintenance along with installations, dismantling, assembling as per manufacturer specifications and recommended standards.
  • Proficient in material take offs, interpreting equipment drawings, including providing accurate layout of the work and building to drawings and specifications along with O+M Manuals to ensure correct maintenance and service has been provided.
  • Accurately and effectively uses various types of welding and cutting equipment.
  • Supervises laborer’s and resources as required for a specific task.
  • Mentors and trains junior workers to develop trade related skills.
  • Ability to complete required daily paperwork with legible penmanship and to KPIC standard.
  • Responsible for all company tools ensuring they are accounted for at the end of each day. Maintaining a clean tool trailer each and every day.

  • Appropriate level of experience in industrial maintenance/service environment.  Agricultural Industry experience considered an asset.
  • Enrolled in Apprenticeship program.  Journeyman status is an asset.
  • Required Safety tickets/training, minimally including a current First Aid Certificate, fall arrest, confined

JOB SUMMARY

The Transit Fleet and Facilities Maintenance team provides safe, reliable, efficient, timely and cost-effective transit vehicle maintenance services to support federally regulated transit services within the City of Ottawa. 

You are responsible for performing a wide range of duties expected of a Truck and Coach Technician, including, but not limited to, the following: conducting diagnostic inspection of vehicles*, performing general mechanical overhaul and repair work , and performing daily maintenance repairs.  You perform all unit changes or repairs to Fleet vehicles (including but not limited to transmission, brakes, suspensions, electrical components, injectors, radiators, steering, differentials and air systems) and make miscellaneous adjustments to doors, destination signs and other vehicle systems.

vehicles*-refers to buses within the Transit Fleet Maintenance Division and any other Fleet vehicle within the Municipal Maintenance Division (cars/trucks, forklifts, etc.). 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Truck and Coach Technician apprenticeship program of 6720 hours

Completion of advanced technical courses is an asset

Minimum of 1 year of experience following attainment of certification

Job Details

This position is responsible for the maintenance of the City's facilities structures and site infrastructure to ensure the longevity of all Facilities assets and to minimize facility life cycle costs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, plans, schedules, and supervises the maintenance and operation of all Facilities Assets including supporting the development and maintenance of five- and ten-year projections for facility operation and maintenance.
  • Manages assigned staff; assists with hiring, establishes work assignments, assesses staffing needs, identifies, and pursues other resources if necessary. Plans and approves staff development. Conducts performance management and, when required, disciplinary action.
  • Plans and participates in the development and incorporation of action items from the Safe Work Management program and Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings. Serves as co-chairperson on the Occupational Health and Safety Committee as required.
  • Responsible for the development and management of the Asset Management System, including the electronic and associated business processes.
  • Oversees the purchase, receipt, storage, and use of all materials and supplies in accordance with the approved maintenance budget. Prepares specifications and evaluates bids for the purchase of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with identifying capital development needs, details the specific technical functional requirements, and assists with the preparation of related capital budgets. Develops and maintains a program for condition monitoring and performance of assets to support capital budgets.
  • Assists in development of the maintenance budget and works in liaison with the Facility Manager to develop the 30-year capital replacement budget.
  • Assists with the identification, coordination, and commissioning of all related maintenance and capital projects including integration with the AMS, new budgeting, and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Performs the duties of the Facility Manager or Operations Manager duties, as required.
  • Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures. Maintains and monitors programs which affect public and employee health and safety.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including 24-hour Direct Responsible Management.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or a related degree, and registration with a related professional body.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an IFMA, Facility Management Professional (FMP) designation or a BOMI Facility Management Administrator (FMA).
  • Four to six years’ progressively responsible related management experience including the ability to build a high-performance team and to mentor, coach and develop staff.
  • An equivalent combination of technical training and experience in building maintenance and administration including financial analysis may be considered.
  • Knowledge of the application of codes and regulations that govern the design, construction and operation of facilities (e.g. OHS, ASHRAE, National Building Code, The Boiler and Pressure Vessels Act).
  • Considerable knowledge of corporate safety practices, procedures and policies, including
