What will you do?

  • Use your expert knowledge about workplace health and safety, provide advice and service to address concerns and champion the best course of action 
  • Exercise strong issues-management and interpersonal skills that drive actions to their conclusion and align competing stakeholder agendas 
  • Provide leadership and support  in the planning, coordination, and preparation of the organization for external OHS audit(s)
  • Build credibility, establish rapport, and maintain communication with internal and external stakeholders at multiple levels
  • Assist with the ongoing administration, maintenance, and education of the City’s electronic safety management tools
  • Ensure compliance with the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation and Code 
  • Partner with clients and branch partners to proactively reduce or eliminate workplace injuries
  • Receive and troubleshoot problems for the City’s electronic safety management tools

Qualifications

  • A degree, diploma or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related discipline such as Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Social Sciences, or a health-related discipline 
  • Coursework in Occupational Health and Safety or Environment Management Systems standards (ie.ISO 45001, 14001) 
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Health and safety management system that includes:
    • Experience in the development of, working, managing, and implementing OHS management systems such as AMHSA COR, ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001 or similar international standards
    • Project and/or Change Management experience preferably in the health and safety management system in a large and complex organization

Assets: 

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent 
  • Project Management Professional designation
  • Alberta COR or ISO 45001 certified auditor

Skills required for success:

  • Expert knowledge of COR (Certificate of Recognition), Alberta Partnerships in Injury Reduction program, maintaining certifying partner relationship (Alberta Municipal Health and Safety Association (AMHSA)) and ISO 45001 Safety management system requirements 
  • Knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of Health, Safety, & Environment (HSE) management systems 
  • Familiarity or experience in developing or administering enterprise safety systems such as Intelex, SAP, Cority, or other safety data management systems 
  • Familiarity or experience preparing OHS project business requirements documentation for City Request For Proposal (RFP) tenders 
  • Familiarity with Project management/coordination tools 
  • Excellent computer skills, including Google applications such as Gmail, Gchat, Meets, Docs, Sheets and Slides, Safety Data Management Systems such as Intelex, Cority 
  • Ability to see the big, strategic vision, think tactically with a problem solving mindset and make and implement practical recommendations 
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to prioritize activities, adapt to change, and stay focused in a dynamic environment

Conditions of Employment:

The mandate of Long Term Care Services is to provide resident care based on the needs of individuals, as determined by medical, nursing, functional and psychosocial assessments, and on each resident’s expressed needs. The care provided in each Home includes specialized, restorative, supportive and palliative care for persons with dementia, disabilities and health problems who cannot live independently in their homes, and whose needs cannot be met in the community.

You are responsible for the delivery of quality, holistic, resident care through the administration and supervision of the Nursing Program and staff in a designated area, with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 4 year university degree in Nursing (BScN)

Minimum of 1 to 2 years of related experience, preferably in a geriatric-gerontology or long term care setting

Post-basic preparation in gerontology is desirable

Membership in Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) is desirable

Canadian Gerontological Certification from Canadian Nurses’ Association is desirable

To support these goals, Amazon is seeking an experienced and innovative Onsite Medical Representative (OMR) to join our team. In this position, you will work closely with the WHS site manager, Wellness Specialists (WSs) and the WHS specialist. You will be required to independently evaluate and provide first aid (e.g., for musculoskeletal injuries), advise Amazon Associates (AAs) on occupational and non-occupational injuries, have great verbal communication skills, be able to connect with AAs, as well as, Amazon Managers, within the limits of your professional code and training where applicable. You should enjoy learning and applying your knowledge about health & wellness to provide care for AAs on a daily basis. You will refer care to outside medical providers as needed, and learn about provincial and federal regulations and risk analysis. Practical ergonomics experience is advantageous. However, ergonomics topics will also be covered in ongoing training.

The OMR will function as a part of the larger team onsite, helping to provide assistance with all first aid needs and support operations as needed. This includes greeting all new hires for the site, either within a setting at New Hire Orientation or through one-on-one interaction. The OMR will also participate, as needed, in incident investigations and weekly case management review meetings.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide triage, prompt first aid within the scope of your training, and/or referral to outside medical providers, if indicated
- Minimize the AA risk of injury through awareness, education and proactive engagement
- Maintain all records of care provided to AAs
- Develop a first aid care plan for AAs recovering from an injury, focused on injury improvement, including self-care instructions as needed
- Manage the workers’ compensation and return to work process for AAs with work related injuries
- Provide daily activity logs and end of shift reports
- Spend frequent time on the warehouse floor to interact and engage with AAs and managers to coach on observed at-risk work habits
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment
- Monitor and ensure appropriate medical supply inventory is maintained
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc tasks as assigned
- Willing to be trained to teach First Aid/CPR/AED certification classes
- Work flexible shifts which could include days, nights, and/or weekends

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular part-time Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Donor Centre team.

 

The Donor Centre team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services collecting donor blood in a safe manner to enable safe products which save lives every day. In this role, you will assist in the collection of blood and blood products ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and all required documentation is carried out. You will play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.

Formula for success

  • Leveraging your ability to communicate effectively with donors, you will conduct registration and confidential screening to determine eligibility and build and promote a positive donor experience.   
  • Utilizing your superb people skills, you will provide donors with information, instruction, and advice on blood donation. 
  • Drawing on your knowledge and experience you will provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.
  • With your excellent interpersonal skills, you will work in a diverse team environment assisting in the collection of whole blood and/or apheresis blood components which save lives daily.
  • At mobile events within our communities, you will assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use.  

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required.
  • Two years of experience working as a nurse is considered an asset as is a certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others is an asset.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs. 
  • A second language is considered an asset to support a positive donor experience.

Under supervision of the Education and Environmental Performance Manager, this position coordinates environmental programs, plans, and projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops and delivers various corporate and community programs related to environmental initiatives such as Student Action for a Sustainable Future, Healthy Yards, Environmental Cash Grant, Yellowfish Road and Sanitary Sewer education, and other new environmental projects and programs.  
  • Works closely with communications staff and contractors to facilitate the development of communication campaigns to support programs and communicate environmental messages.  This may involve creating content, reviewing materials, updating the website, and delivering education at public events, community meetings, or exhibits. 
  • Monitors and measures environmental programs and other environmental performance metrics and develops, prepares, and presents reports.
  • Acts as a liaison for the Sustainability Department with community associations, environmental organizations, City departments, and other agencies and organizations involved in environmental initiatives.
  • Serves on various committees to elicit Saskatoon resident cooperation and participation in the implementation of various environmental programs and projects.
  • Assists with securing project funding from both internal and external sources, this may include preparation of and reporting on grant applications and preparing internal reports and memos.
  • Assists in the development of strategic and business plans on environmental and sustainability initiatives by working with consultants, advising on content, and facilitating reviews and advice from other City staff.  
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
     

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in a related field.
  • Four years' experience in environmental sustainability field related to environmental programs, and/or community education.  
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating safe driving record.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Knowledge of environmental education,  program development and program delivery.
  • Knowledge of research, planning and evaluation processes as they relate to environmental projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including preparing and presenting complex technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with civic staff, civic officials, representatives of other agencies and the public.
  • Skill in critical thinking and problem solving.  
  • Skill in the operation of a computer with Microsoft Office software.
