Responsibilities

  • Expected to quickly respond and diagnose problems in order to determine the best method of repair based on safety and production requirements by assessing failures and implementing alternative solutions to keep production/packaging lines running
  • Work collaboratively with all operations during Autonomous Maintenance sessions and Breakdown Maintenance and when addressing reoccurring problems and other department maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure Preventive Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance Inspection are completed and provide detailed follow-ups of future work needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other trades and Department SME’s on projects, rebuilds, Autonomous Maintenance, Preventative Maintenance Breakdown Maintenance and other jobs as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager

Shifts:The successful candidate must be available for 5x8 rotation.

Equipment Operators Full-time Job

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

CPKC is hiring fulltime Equipment Operators in order to facilitate the safe and efficient loading of domestic and international containers at the Intermodal facility in Lachine, Quebec.

Starting position includes operation of various intermodal equipment (shunt trucks etc.) at the rate of $29.661 and offers near term progression to other positions within the facility, example Utility Ground at the rate of $30.985 and Heavy Equipment Operator at the rate of $34.959.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Operation of various terminal equipment including shunt trucks, light duty pickup trucks, fuel trucks, trailers, chassis, forklift, sweeper truck, etc
  • Hostling containers/chassis within terminal to support train loading operations
  • General duties, as required, including pre-tripping of perishable intermodal containers, building electric reefer container sets on railcars, plug in reefers on ground and monitor performance
  • Perform visual inspection and report on damages and defects of intermodal equipment
  • Prepare railcars for proper loading of different-size containers by placement of pedestals and spacers
  • Assist in securement of containers once loaded to railcar (walking on railcar platforms, locking/unlocking IBC’s)
  • Update system as required once work is completed
  • Other miscellaneous duties as/when required
  • This is a safety-sensitive position within an environment of heavy equipment and constant flow of traffic

  • Applicant must have High School or equivalent
  • Possess advanced reading and writing skills, including the ability to follow advanced written instruction and/or training in skills such as driving

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid 5760 Industrial Construction and Maintenance Mechanic or 5781 Automated Systems Electromechanic Certification of Qualification is highly preferred but extensive relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience performing maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • Ability to receive and give instruction over radio in industrial environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Assets:

  • Experience of performing maintenance on conveyor belts.
  • Knowledge of plumbing and building schematics.
  • Knowledge of keyboard and basic computer skills.

Our Maintenance Delivery department is seeking a Track Utility Person to ensure GO Transit’s track structure, equipment, and rights-of-way are maintained in a safe and effective manner.



What will I be doing?
  • Carrying out remedial and programmed maintenance of GO Transit facilities and properties as well as preventative/capital maintenance, inspection of GO Transit track and rights-of-way, such as:
    • Install and replace all types of track components including but not limited to rail, ties, spikes, anchors, ballast, joints, turnouts, points, frogs, switch heaters, etc.
    • Correct and repair surface, alignment, and gauge of track.
    • Install and repair road crossings, including paving.
    • Control and remove snow and ice at turnouts and road crossings.
    • Inspect all track structure and reports defects.
    • Maintain rights-of-way and signs and clear brush, vegetation, and litter from the right-of-way.
    • Establish and maintain drainage
  • Understand and comply with track safety standards, Operating Rules and Safe work procedures and policies.

  • Operate assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools safely and maintain them in a clean and serviceable condition and maintain logs relative to their serviceability.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Level of reading, writing, and learning skills normally attained through Grade 10 education.
  • Minimum of (1) one year experience in the following:
    • Maintaining switch points, frogs, rails, protectors and basic operations such as spiking and tamping, as well as seasonal operations including tieing, surfacing, construction and snow removal.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Rail Operating Rules and pertinent Health and Safety Regulations is considered an asset.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence and must meet corporate standard for a good driving record.  Possession or ability to obtain a “DZ” licence is considered an asset
  • Must be able to obtain GO Transit Equipment Operator’s Permit. 
  • Must be able to obtain a CROR foreman certification and a TIG qualification.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid Certification. 
  • Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy.

Working Conditions:

  • Work outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions, involving physical work.
  • Perform repetitive physical activities during the course of a shift
  • Frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds (22 kg).
  • You may be required to work variable hours/shifts to support various work programs and winter operations. 
  • You may also be required to be On-Call from time to time.

In this challenging role you will be a member of a team working in a high production environment performing preventative maintenance to locomotives. The starting Diesel Mechanic rate is $45.24 per hour with a $15,000 signing bonus. The Diesel Mechanic classification will be determined by experience and current shop mix.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintain, inspect, service, test and repairs all systems on locomotives, mobile equipment and vehicles used in plant, yard and road service
  • Services locomotive cabs which include cleaning/washing cab walls, windows, floors and servicing of locomotive toilets compartment and toilets
  • Make the evaluation of parts for reuse, repair or replacement
  • Work to blueprints, schematic drawings, service manual and other like information. Adapts to new methods, processes, material and equipment
  • Perform non-structural welding, (i.e. Tacking)
  • Perform adjustment and calibration to mechanical components
  • Perform modification and construct mechanical assemblies
  • Perform maintenance and low voltage repairs of locomotive electrical systems
  • Use various hand and power hand tools
  • Operate equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts to assist in assignments
  • Adapts to new methods, processes, material and equipment

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalence Diploma
  • Must have completed previous apprenticeship and ability to provide proof of apprenticeship
  • Must have 6 years practical or general experience in mentioned apprenticeship applicable to the trade or possess a Unifor Local Journeyman/Journeywomen 101R card 
  • Must possess one of the following; Journeyman Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanics Certification, Journeyman Automotive Technician Certification, and Journeyman Electrician Certification
  • Strong problem solving and computer skills
  • Must be able to work within strict established safety and work guidelines/rules to complete job
  • Will be required to obtain all CPKC certification pertaining to specific tasks and assignments
  • CPKC operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; must be able to work on various shifts and days off

The Maintenance Electrician ensures that all components are in good functional working order in their assigned area by providing preventive maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting support as needed. 

 

The Details: 

This is a Full-time position that will start ASAP. Standard work week is 40 hours with the potential for overtime. This position requires 1 paid on-call weekend rotation per month.

Schedule: As required - Afternoon Shift: 2:30PM - 10:00PM & Night Shift: 10:00PM - 6:30AM

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting electrical equipment.
  • Working with PLC’s & programming software, and their interaction with electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and install high speed filling machines with a comprehensive working knowledge of electrical systems and components to allow efficient repair/replacement results.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance and regular work orders and account for inventory and labor on computerized maintenance system.
  • Perform documented regular preventative maintenance inspections on all electrical equipment.
  • Ensure that all coders are in good functional working order.
  • Assist the production lines with change overs and set ups.
  • Identify and report identified hazards and fulfill all Health & Safety, WHMIS, MSDS, and GMP policy requirements.
  • Work with others cooperatively, safely and in a structured and team environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Journeymen Red Seal Electrician required.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as an Electrician is required.
  • Ability to read, interpret and update Electrical and Mechanical drawings / schematics is required.
  • Experience in the following areas: Equipment Repairs, Equipment Improvements, Equipment Upgrades, New Equipment Installations, Preventive Maintenance, Knowledge and experience with installing, troubleshooting and repairing Programming Logic Controllers (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi) Competency in troubleshooting HMI’s, Variable frequency drives, Motion control, Laser date coders, Ink jet printers, Case packers, Palletizers, High Speed Packaging system.
  • Liquid fill or food manufacturing experience is a strong asset.
  • Must have demonstrated command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Must have the ability to work rotating shifts (days, afternoon, nights) and overtime when required to support a continuous operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen and follow instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay excellent attention to detail.
  • Computer literate.
