Job Summary
Under supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, this is unskilled cleaning and minor maintenance work at various locations involving the use of cleaning and maintenance equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Cleans the interior and exterior of buildings and associated grounds and walkways, including cleaning and sanitation of pool decks, whirlpools and change rooms and pool vacuuming.
- Assists with the relocation and installation of fixtures and equipment.
- Secures and locks gates and doors of buildings and other City property.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Fleet servicing occurs primarily at the fully equipped Garage at Manitoba Yards which houses an employee base of approximately 150 employees from various Trades but also as a Commercial Transport or Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will work with members of the Fleet and Manufacturing Services team to ensure that quality and timely work is performed to support and service our clients. The challenge this busy environment offers is in the variety of work, that includes small and heavy equipment, automobiles, light to heavy trucks, trailers and various other work related to fleet.
The City of Vancouver supports continued education and development in areas of interest for all of its employees. Equipment Services provides great opportunities for training including dealer training on newly purchased fleet equipment. There are three positions available (2 Heavy-Duty Mechanic and 1 Commercial Transport Mechanic). The regular work schedule is from 3:10 PM to 12:34 AM, Monday to Friday. The successful candidates may be required to adjust shifts and locations as operationally required.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Heavy Duty Mechanic or Commercial Transport Certificate of Qualifications (T.Q.), Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement
- Red Seal certification is preferred.
- Completion of Grade 10, supplemented by technical courses related to the work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the automotive and heavy-duty mechanical trade.
- Thorough knowledge of braking systems.

JOB SUMMARY

Contributing in this role means:
- Carry out the installation, maintenance and mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic repair of equipment on the various automated production and packaging lines;
- Carry out inspection and preventive maintenance of equipment;
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment in breakdown situations to ensure production targets are met;
- When assigned to certain sectors, carry out surveillance rounds of fixed machine equipment;
- Carry out work according to established priorities, the availability of equipment and materials required;

The qualifications sought are:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar position;
- Post-secondary training in a related field (electromechanics, industrial mechanics, automation, etc.);
- Possess MMF class 3A competency certification (an asset), otherwise be ready to complete the certification process (paid for by Saputo);
- Possess an electrical certificate (license C or CRCA certificate) (an asset);
- Training and experience with PLC (an asset);
- Master common IT tools (MS Office suite);
- Experience with maintenance management software (an asset);

Key Accountabilities:
- Provide leadership, knowledge and direction to field staff towards Canadian Natural's Safety Management Systems

What You Bring to the Role:

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

- Working knowledge of materials, tools, methods, safety practices and equipment used in janitorial and maintenance work

Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise Mechanical Shop Supervisors who oversee Technicians, Apprentices, Service Line and Utility. Responsible for hiring, training, performance management, coaching, and progressive discipline. Promote a positive, professional, and safety-first work environment.
- Manage planned work orders are executed efficiently, safely, and with quality. Monitor shop activity, remove barriers to productivity, and adjust priorities as needed to meet operational needs.
- Assign daily tasks to staff based on availability, skill set, and priority. Collaborate closely with the Maintenance Superintendent (Planning) to ensure the execution aligns with the maintenance schedule.
- Maintain strict adherence to OH&S, SGI, and internal safety protocols. Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and incident investigations. Ensure all work is done safely and that proper documentation is completed.
- Conduct inspections to verify the quality of completed work. Implement processes to reduce rework, ensure proper use of standard repair times, and support continuous improvement in repair practices.

- Acts as the liaison between Planning and Operations by providing regular updates to the Fleet & Maintenance Manager and working collaboratively with the Maintenance Superintendent (Planning) to address and resolve scheduling and operational issues.
- Identify skill gaps and support the development of training plans in partnership with HR and the Maintenance Superintendent (Planning). Mentor technicians and leads to build technical expertise and leadership capability.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain Management to ensure timely availability of parts and tools. Address material or equipment shortages impacting service delivery.
- Ensure optimal fleet availability through timely maintenance and repair. Lead the response to breakdowns, incidents, or other disruptions during the shift.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend solutions. Support the implementation of new processes, technologies, and cultural change initiatives aligned with proactive maintenance practices.
- Ensure accurate completion of work orders, inspections, and other maintenance records. Support audits, compliance checks, and internal reviews as needed.

Qualifications
- Journeyperson Certification (Truck and Transport, Heavy Duty, Automotive) is required.
- Possession of a valid Red Seal Journeyperson license in a relevant trade
- Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) designation.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance operations, including at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Experience in public transit or large fleet environments is an asset.
- Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License.
