Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Dispatcher to join our dynamic Logistics team.

 

The Logistics team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by coordinating the dispatch of transport drivers and vehicles.  In this role, you will be responsible in facilitating the safe and timely distribution of blood products, equipment, materials and the transportation of staff and donors.

Formula for success

 

  • Utilizing your organizational skills, you will review, plan and coordinate vehicle and staff resources to meet daily operational requirements.
  • Drawing on your knowledge of safe transportation procedures and your attention to detail, you will ensure vehicle maintenance is in accordance with Canadian Blood Services Transportation Rules and Procedures Manual.
  • Leveraging your great communication skills, you will facilitate the resolution of day to day operational issues, consulting the supervisor/manager for direction as appropriate.
  • Initiate, post and revise Driver's daily work schedule to accommodate changing work flow within the department to meet all tasks including staff and donor shuttles, mobile transportation, hospital deliveries and centre functions.
  • Build and foster professional relationships with vendors, internal and external customers.
  • You will complete appropriate documentation required for department activities, compile statistical information and prepare reports upon requests.
  • Serve as the first point of reference in resolution of day to day centre and mobile related issues; problem solve and redirect resources required.

Desired education and skills

 

  • Completion of secondary school program. 
  • Current experience (within the last 3 years) in a Dispatcher role or related position within a Logistics environment is required.
  • Current experience (within the last 3 years) in a customer service environment is required.
  • Experience in a Manufacturing and/or Supply Chain Operations environment would be an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, being able to exercise tact, sound judgement and discretion when dealing with others.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; manage multiple tasks with competing priorities. 
  • Must be willing to obtain Class 4 MB license and provide commercial drivers abstract.

JOB SUMMARY

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12.

Minimum of 5 years of driving experience with a clean driving record free of demerit points and including ideally a minimum 3 years of relevant customer service experience including direct contact with the public and dealing with a diverse population.

Public Urban transit experience is an asset

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Completion of Defensive Driving course or related is an asset

Applicants must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job including, but not limited to, performing the following tasks, which are repetitive and constant during a normal shift as a Bus Operator:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time in the driver’s seat while wearing a seat belt
  • Ability to bend, twist body and to manipulate controls independently or simultaneously at any given time, while wearing a seatbelt in the driver’s seat
  • Ability to “reach over-head” with both arms to manipulate controls
  • Constant twisting and neck rotation of different ranges to check mirrors, bus passes, etc.
  • Ability to perform required MTO pre-trip inspection, which involves walking, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, twisting body in many different positions
  • Medium duty lifting while assisting customers with special needs
  • Constant gripping, pulling and pushing to manipulate control (steering controls, control valves, etc.)
  • Bending, stooping, crouching and twisting in order to keep stairway clear of ice and snow build-up
  • Ability to manipulate dual foot controls independently or simultaneously at any given time
     

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Your Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum high school diploma; post-secondary education in business, logistics or administration is a strong asset
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
  • Previous customer service experience in the transportation industry is a strong asset
  • Advanced communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Strong computer skills, particularly MS Office, Excel and Outlook, as well as web based products and an aptitude for learning new software. Knowledge and /or experience with Truck Mate and Sales Force is a strong asset
  • Accuracy in keyboarding and data entry
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work independently in a fast paced, high transactional environment

***Please note that the shift is working during the day shift from 7:30 pm to 4:00pm - working Monday through to Friday with days off Saturday and Sunday***

 

What you will be doing:

•Focus on excellence in execution – process customer orders and returns on time and accurately

Forklift

•Operate all equipment in a safe manner

Receiving

•Unload product from trucks

•Inspect, sort, count & verify inventory

•Stage products for put away activities

 

Returns & Restocking

•Unload product from shipping containers and stage for crediting activities

•Process credits for customer returns

•Sort & control inventory for restock, return to vendor or liquidation

•Inspect & prepare inventory for restocking

•Put away inventory into corresponding location

 

Fulfillment

•Put away inventory into corresponding location

•Print & prepare orders for picking activities

•Pick customer orders and stage for packing activities

•Pack, label & check customer orders and stage for shipping activities

•Scan, weigh & ship customers orders and load onto trucks

•Process inventory kitting activities as requested

 

Inventory

•Consolidate inventory, perform cycle counting and stock adjustments, ensure inventory is in the right location. Understand inventory processes

•Assist in inventory and counting procedures

•Maintain a clean & safe workstation

•Maintain equipment & tools

•Organize & maintain inventory of packing materials (bins, boxes, collates etc.)

 

 

What you will bring:

  • Must possess a current forklift license and have a minimum of 3 years of forklift experience

  • Must great working knowledge of RF technology and inventory count/ movement experience.

  • Must be able to learn new processes quickly in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must have a positive attitude and be willing to work as part of an inventory team.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to work independently and meet targets and follow detailed instructions on the day shift.

Job Details

Coke Canada Bottling Bulk Drivers are responsible for the delivery of pre-ordered products to assigned accounts. This is a long-haul role and requires overnights. This is a short haul role and all driving will be locally based.

Responsibilities

  • Shift: AM, PM or overnight
  • Deliver pre-ordered products to customers on assigned route using a Coke Canada Bottling fleet truck
  • Check accuracy and stability of truck load
  • Follow all Coke Canada Bottling and Store policies regarding equipment and safety
  • Maintain professional relationships with co-workers and customers.
  • Repetitively lift, carry and position product (weight up to 50lbs or 22kgs) above shoulder height without assistance - most route require product to be offloaded and broght into the customer location.
  • Merchandising product into customer location as needed
  • Ability to push and pull manual and powered equipment (i.e. pallet jack, hand-truck etc.) containing product loads for a minimum of 100 yards without assistance
  • Collect company property

Qualifications

  • Commercial License with Air (Class 1 or AZ) with no major violations over the last three (3) years
