This position offers the opportunity to become a skilled professional driver. Under general supervision, the employee in this position operates a transit vehicle in a safe and courteous manner and provides effective and safe transportation for the citizens of Regina, while providing exemplary customer service. Employees must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job including, but not limited to, performing the following tasks, which are constant during a normal shift as a Bus Operator:
- Ability to sit for long periods of time in the driver’s seat while wearing a seat belt.
- Ability to bend, twist body and to manipulate controls independently or simultaneously at any given time, while wearing a seatbelt in the driver’s seat.
- Ability to “reach over-head” with both arms to manipulate controls.
- Constant twisting and neck rotation of different ranges to check mirrors, blind spots etc.
- Ability to perform required pre-trip inspection, which involves walking, bending, squatting, reaching, twisting body in many different positions.
- Medium duty lifting while assisting customers with special needs.
- Constant gripping, pulling and pushing to manipulate control (steering controls, control valves, etc.)
- Bending, stooping, crouching and twisting in order to keep doorways clear of ice and snow build-up.
Note: Work schedules vary, seven (7) days per week including split shifts, early mornings, evenings, late nights, weekends and holidays. Days off vary. This is a seniority-based environment where work schedules, days off, vacation and other absences are based on seniority and availability to maintain service levels.

About the Opportunity
- Loads truck with distribution carts for the appropriate sites in an efficient manner according to the approved schedule.
- Documents and cross checks each load on Distribution Record to ensure that all destination serveries are accounted for.
- Operates vehicle with due care to ensure timely, safe and consistent delivery. All issues are to be reported immediately to supervisors and logged in truck binder.

- Assist in monitoring scheduled and nonscheduled dispatches to ensure they are on-time; advise Brokers, Customer Service, and/or Planner in next region of any changes
- Participate in identifying trucks as they arrive at switch points or terminals that have not already received a preplan
- Complete Broker and Driver pay sheets
- Update terminal power board to ensure accuracy
- Calling or messaging drivers to advise when loads will be ready
- Other related duties as may be required
Your Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of secondary education
- Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred
- Experience using MS Outlook, Excel & Word; must possess the aptitude for learning new programs
- Strong customer service focus, relationship building skills
- Good communication skills including the ability to relay information (verbal and written) between several parties and deliver a positive customer experience
- Troubleshooting and problem solving skills, the ability to evaluate current situation, respond quickly to changing requirements, execute and escalate accordingly
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced deadline-driven setting
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a deadline driven environment; appropriate sense of urgency
- Ability to collaborate with others to meet customer expectations

The Dispatch Planner is providing excellent customer service to the dedicated customer, while understanding and controlling costs.
How You’ll Help
- Building and strengthening relationships with Drivers and the Customer addressing issues and concerns in a timely and efficient manner.
- Providing updates to the Customer with regard to route updates, schedule deviations, or other matters as scheduled and as required.
- Monitor driver schedules and delivery appointments on a daily basis; communicate schedule deviations, and contact delivery points to confirm or make alternate arrangements as required.
- Coordinate resources effectively – schedule drivers and equipment to meet the customers daily delivery requirements, make alternate arrangements due to extenuating circumstances.
- Arrange equipment maintenance and service as required and communicate accordingly.
- Maintain internal dispatch system in as close to real time as possible
- Implement any new policies and procedures in regards to Drivers and/or fleet
- Identify opportunities for improvement, contribute to the development of solutions and implement and communicate accordingly
- Contribute to the development of customer facing and internal KPIs and drive efficiencies with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain current daily reporting
- Other related duties as may be required.
Your Skills & Experience:
- Post secondary training preferably in business, logistics, or customer service
- A suitable combination of education and experience may also be considered
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a demanding customer service or related role, preferable in the transportation industry.
- Previous operational experience in the transportation industry is an asset.
- Advanced communication skills, verbal and written
- Solid computer skills, including accuracy and experience with web based program and MS products - Excel in particular; knowledge of AS400 a definite asset
- Exceptional customer relationship skills, including the ability to balance the needs and demands of both internal external customers.
