The Driver Safety Specialist is responsible for and will facilitate driver safety education & remedial training programs. You will be required to identify unsafe habits and behaviors and coordinate solutions to lessen or eliminate future non-compliance or unsafe actions.

How You’ll Help: 

• Establish regular meetings with all drivers. 
• Accompany drivers for the purpose of observing and evaluating the driving behaviours and skills for compliance to Provincial and D&R requirements such as log book, speed, inspections etc.
• Meet targets as to company safety policies, driver attendance to safety meetings and accident costs.
• Maintain driver and supervisory personnel adherence to legislated safety laws.
• Help create safety training material to facilitate education of safety legislations.
• Maintain and update data input on multiply PC programs.
• Effectively maintain professional attitude and be a source of solutions or guidance for all issues.
• Remain on call for and attend at accidents / collisions as company representative and to complete all required reports.
• Complete required work in all weather conditions year round as needed.
• Be able to communicate to individual / groups in a classroom setting and set up / use education tools as required, i.e. Laptop, LCD projector, creates handouts, maintain decorum, gain feedback and track progress.
• Commercial Driver's License is preferred with a clean record.
• Facilitate LCV permit review training with new operations team members when required
• Other related duties as may be required.

Your Skills and Experience: 

• Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education (general stream), or a combination of education and experience.
• Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred, various roles within transportation would be beneficial.
• Minimum 5 years of Class 1 driving, verifiable experience including tractor trailer experience.
• Valid Class 1 license.
• Previous training and/or evaluating experience an asset.
• Communication skills – advanced with the ability to relay information and skills in an engaged learning environment.
• Ability to objectively coach students, evaluate skills and provide feedback.
• Demonstrated customer relationship skills.
• Strong conflict resolution skills.
• Computer skills - accuracy, MS products, AS400, web based programs.
• Knowledge related to legal / safe operation of commercial equipment as to local laws and federal compliance standards.
• Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous goods Regulations.

• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.

Owner Operator Truck Driver – Long Distance

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have a minimum of two year verifiable experience with articulated equipment
• Equipment must not be more than 4 years old.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and to enter the United States
• Must possess a valid class AZ driver’s license that has not been suspended or revoked in the past 36 months
• Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand the highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
• Must be admissible into the US (Able to obtain a FAST card)
• Must meet USDOT medical requirements
• Must provide a recent criminal record search or a valid FAST card
• Must provide an original driver’s abstract no older than 3 months, no more than 3 demerit points
• Must provide an original CVOR abstract no older than 3 months
• Must submit a negative drug screen
• Must be capable of meeting the physical demands of the job
• Must satisfactorily complete a road test by a LTI appointed evaluator
• Must not have any preventable accidents within the last three years where the claim exceeds $3000

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate and drive articulated or straight trucks, weighing over 4600 kg with three or more axles to transport goods and material to destinations
• Oversee all aspects of vehicles, such as condition of equipment, loading and unloading, and safety and security of cargo
• Perform pre-trip inspection of vehicle systems and equipment such as tires, lights, and brakes.
• Record cargo information, distance traveled, fuel consumption, and other information in log book and/or on board computer
• Communicate with dispatcher and other drivers using on-board computer, cell phone, and CB radio

The Opportunity:

As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Heritage team, the Team Leader will be responsible for material shipping, receiving and warehouse activities at the Heritage facility. This role will be responsible for shipping, receiving transportation, and warehousing related activities in Logistic areas of the plant, reporting to the Logistics Manager.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

• Responsible for the shipping activity for outbound finished goods
• Responsible for the receiving activity of all inbound materials
• Responsible for warehouse activities, communicates and documents transactions, including vendor damage claims
• Supervise outbound material movement to meet supply chain requirements including inventory accuracy, minimizing write-offs, and new product introductions
• Supervise dry goods, packaging, meat and finished good warehouse operators
• Manages the warehouse to meet housekeeping standards, including inventory control and management
• Responsible for ensuring all shipments, inbound and outbound, meet quality requirements including completion of all related paperwork
• Provides innovative solutions and continuous improvement initiatives to upgrade the department
• Maintain managed warehouse bin management, inventory control, and allergen management.
• Communicates effectively with transport dispatch, other plants, and third-party providers
• Act as single point of contact for employee issues and concerns and providing follow-up in a timely manner
• Conduct grievance, incident investigations, counseling, and discipline meetings
• Properly administering the Collective Agreement
• Accurate payroll processing
• Conduct communication, safety, and food safety meetings
• Audits processes: People System, FSQA, Reliability predictive practices
• Conduct daily team meetings to review FS/QA, People, Reliability and CI KPIs
• Develop Team Members through certification training and coaching, providing clear roles and consistent support and feedback for all employees
• Foster and maintain positive union and employee relations environment by treating all employees with respect, providing timely feedback and grievance resolution
• Ensures the compliance of all plant relevant policies, procedures, and standardized work methods
• Maintain a safe working environment and ensure continued compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, JHSC recommendations or MOL work orders, Company Safety rules and Good Manufacturing Practices
• Perform accident investigation and take an active role in WSIB case management and ensuring early and safe return of injured workers to modified and/or productive duties
• Efficient warehouse flow
• Timely completion of shipping and receiving duties
• Timely execution of all warehouse pick and put away tasks
• Develop cross functional relationships with other groups in production, H&S, FSQA and reliability
• Shall demonstrate full commitment to the implementation of the requirements of the Global Standard for Food Safety and to processes which facilitate continual improvement of food safety and quality management.

What You’ll Bring:

• The successful candidate will possess a relevant post-secondary education
• Previous experience in a unionized food, dairy, beverage or packaged goods industry is a definite asset
• Ability to communicate and work with all relevant associates, stakeholders and resources in a frequently changing and challenging supply chain environment
• Strong analytical skills and detail oriented; strong organization skills with sound prioritizing abilities
• Strong computer skills related to MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook)
• SAP knowledge is an asset
• 2-3 years’ experience in a shipping environment, preferably in a food, unionized environment
