Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working closely with the Natural Area Operations Ecologist and Coordinator, and in alignment with the City Plan, this position will be a key driver of restoring natural spaces ensuring restoration aligns with the Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Strategy, as well as other City policies and guidelines.
Duties of the Restoration Technician will be to:
- Review restoration plans to ensure they align with best practices, City standards, and natural area management plans
- Act as a liaison between the Natural Areas, Naturalization, Urban Forestry, and the Open Space and Development Inspection teams, and provide restoration advice, guidance, or planting requirements
- Develop restoration plans for identified sites and help to coordinate restoration efforts
- Attend inspections for Construction Completion Certificates (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificates (FAC) as needed, document inspection findings and complete inspection reports
- Participate in and provide advice on pre-disturbance assessments and audits of natural areas that are in the process of being accepted into the City’s inventory, and work with the appropriate teams to ensure the City’s inventory of natural areas is kept up to date and accurate
- Conduct ecological monitoring and assessments of the City’s natural areas and recommend locations for restoration and naturalization initiatives
- Create maps and surveys through ArcGIS online, ArcGIS Pro, Survey 123 Connect, and Field Maps to improve restoration monitoring
- Refine and monitor IPM practices in natural areas to ensure the City is in compliance with the Integrated Pest Management Policy C501A and coordinate restoration efforts where required
- Work with citizens and external stakeholders as required
- Work with the Ecologist and Natural Areas Coordinator to develop and review strategic documents that relate to the City’s restoration goals
- Research restoration best practices and work towards incorporating these into current restoration standards at the City
- Provide guidance on updates to landscape standards, operational work and stay up to date on best management practices

Qualifications
- Completion of a 2-year technology diploma in Ecology, Biological Science, Landscape Technician, or a related field from a recognized institute of technology is required
- Certificate in Ecological Restoration is an asset
- Professional Biologist or Agrologist designation is an asset
- Alberta Pesticide License is an asset
- A minimum of 5 years experience in restoration ecology, or urban ecology is required

Job Summary

Duties & Responsibilities

Qualifications
• Grade 12 education.
• Successful completion of a diploma in horticulture.
• Three years’ progressively responsible experience in grounds maintenance or related field, including one year supervising staff.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months after hire, all relevant Saskatchewan Pesticide Applicator Permits.
