Position Summary
The City of Regina has an exciting opportunity for a Journeyperson Refrigeration Mechanic to utilize their skills and knowledge to diagnose, repair, alter, construct and maintain all types of refrigeration equipment, HVAC, plumbing and mechanical systems, pumps and compressors in City facilities. The work is performed independently and is subject to inspection during progress and upon completion. This position may be required to supervise other trades people. Duties & Responsibilities
- Inspects, diagnoses, evaluates options and repairs industrial, commercial and domestic refrigeration equipment, HVAC, plumbing and mechanical systems, pumps and compressors in existing buildings.
- Operates, maintains and calibrates computerized and other control systems on HVAC systems within City facilities.
- Plans and/or installs new refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems in new or existing facilities.
- Examines building plans and specifications to determine the layout of refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical and other building systems affecting the work. May be required to prepare sketches of proposed construction.
- Estimates quantity and quality of material required for the work and requisitions material in accordance with policy and signing authority and maintains a stock of equipment and parts.
- Reviews systems and performs work in compliance with the OH&S Regulations, Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act and National Building Code.
- Recommends sub-contract work as required and inspects the work of sub-contractors to ensure conformance with specifications and quality standards.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the refrigeration mechanic trade, and knowledge of the work of related trades such as plumbing and gas fitting.
- Knowledge and ability to diagnose and repair existing systems and be able to install new plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems as required.
- Knowledge of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE) standards in the areas of HVAC and Refrigeration. Knowledge of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act and National Building Code.
- Knowledge of DDC controllers, computerized building operation systems and other HVAV control systems.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards, safety precautions and regulations of the trade, including the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
- Ability to start-up and shut down ammonia refrigeration systems; charge the systems with refrigerant, like ammonia or freon and experience with air conditioning for computer systems.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and specifications and to plan and prepare cost estimates for the installation, maintenance or modification of refrigeration or heating systems in new and existing buildings.
- Ability to give, understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, work with minimum supervision and to supervise subordinates as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Typically the knowledge, skills and abilities to complete this job are obtained through completion of grade ten (10), a Journeyperson Certification in the Refrigeration Mechanic trade and two (2) years current journeyperson experience in the Refrigeration Mechanic trade in the building construction and maintenance area and with the maintenance of cooling appliances. Some experience with ammonia refrigeration plant operations and repairs is required.
Working/Other Conditions
- Must possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver's license and a First Aid Certificate. An Arena Operator's Certificate would be an asset.
- May be required to work shift work and subject to call-out when a problem arises in the field of expertise.
- Will be required to provide a standardized set of tools for the trade.

Main Purpose & Function
The Arboriculture Technician is responsible for preserving and protecting the urban forest by performing specialized technical support work for the Urban Forestry department. The Arboriculture Technician represents the Urban Forestry profession and the interests of Vancouver’s urban forest to other City Departments, levels of government, the development community, and the general public. The Arboriculture Technician will put forth contemporary arboricultural strategies and best practices in keeping with up-to-date science and research.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The Arboriculture Technician plans and implements strategies to ensure quality tree planting programs. Related tasks include the administration of large planting programs in conjunction with street and development projects, and public tree stewardship events. This work will align with Vancouver’s canopy cover goal of 30% by 2050 and focus on under-represented neighbourhoods. The Arboriculture Technician is familiar with related City of Vancouver and Vancouver Park Board policies such as VanPlay to accomplish goals and strengthen the urban forest in a changing climate. They also plan and implement tree management strategies and practices that improve the existing urban forest or its maintenance operations. The Arboriculture Technician is often the person to steward the introduction of new technologies and practices. The Arboriculture Technician will also make recommendations for improvements to methods and procedures in all aspects of Arboriculture operations and will provide technical advice to the senior staff of the Urban Forestry Department and Park Board. The Arboriculture Technician must have strong technical skills and independent judgment as they are expected to make reasonable recommendations supported by evidence on the outcome of urban forestry. This role will work collaboratively with outside departments to develop solution-oriented strategies that enhance the City of Vancouver’s urban forest.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- University graduation in a discipline applicable to urban forestry with preference for ISA Certified Arborist with TRAQ endorsement and some experience in the municipal arboriculture field, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Considerable experience with the methods, materials, practices, tools and equipment as used currently in arboriculture.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of Vancouver Urban Forest Strategy and the Van-Tree computer program;

You perform all unit changes or repairs to Fleet vehicles (including but not limited to transmission, brakes, suspensions, electrical components, injectors, radiators, steering, differentials and air systems) and make miscellaneous adjustments to doors, destination signs and other vehicle systems.
vehicles*-refers to buses within the Transit Fleet Maintenance Division and any other Fleet vehicle within the Municipal Maintenance Division (cars/trucks, forklifts, etc.).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Truck and Coach Technician apprenticeship program of 6720 hours
Completion of advanced technical courses is an asset
Minimum of 1 year of experience following attainment of certification

- City policies and procedures affecting shop operations
- Considerable knowledge of the vehicle systems, and the standard methods, tools, and equipment used in the trade

- Personal computers, with ability to use the Fleet Management Information System.

- Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction. Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated. Must complete City training and obtain Ontario unrestricted CZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) within the timeframe determined by the employer, in order to operate a City of Ottawa bus.

Responsibilities
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative testing of beverages, syrups, and raw materials throughout the entire production process.
- Perform standardized quality samplings and audits during production; organize collected data into electronic logbooks, databases, and report variances and non-conformities to plant management.
- Understand, monitor and act accordingly to support : ISO-GFSI compliance regulatory requirements, Food Safety and Quality programs as implemented by the company. This individual has the authority and responsibility to stop production should the product be out of specification and or observed food safety or compliance breach.
- Conduct package quality inspection and quality audit and isolate product that does not meet standards.
- Standardize and calibrate laboratory equipment, troubleshoot systems, equipment and processes for the department.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree in science related field preferred.
- 1 - 3 years prior production/manufacturing experience OR 2+ years relevant lab technician experience. - Food/beverage industry experience a plus.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with lab safety and handling of hazardous materials.
- Readily accepts instruction from management/supervisors and executes effectively.
- Needs to be reliable and open to a flexible schedule.
- Strong analytical skills.
