JOB SUMMARY

The Transit Facilities Maintenance Unit is responsible for the property management functions associated with the maintenance, operation and repair of all transit facilities.

Reporting to a Plant Supervisor, you are responsible for a full range of installation, testing, trouble-shooting, maintenance and preventive maintenance duties, and for repairing a wide variety of electrical and/or mechanical equipment and installations.  These include, but are not limited to HVAC, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, distribution and switching systems, motors, power storage and conditioning systems, fire, lighting, control and building management systems, and low-pressure boilers/general gas fittings used and/or installed in the garage properties and transitway stations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Journeyman’s certificate as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic 313A and completion of Gas Technician G1 Certification. 

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Journeyman related to installing, trouble shooting, maintenance and repair of all types of building energy systems, mechanical, Gas and electrical operating equipment, and bus servicing equipment.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

TSSA Gas Technician 1 (G1) certificate
Must obtain Forklift Operator Licence within the timeframe determined by the employer
Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
Must obtain Ontario unrestricted AZ or DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) within the timeframe determined by the employer
Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic 313A

KNOWLEDGE

  • City policies and procedures affecting shop operations

Position Summary

This position supervises the day to day operations of city owned facilities, yards and/or shop complexes and is an integral part of the Facilities Management Services Team. The employee in this position will supervise and train up to 25 staff. Responsibilities also include: assisting in establishing and monitoring budget requirements and policy and procedure development requisitioning materials, personnel and supplies, carrying out performance management and scheduling the work of all subordinates. This position reports to the Manager of Facilities Operations.

 

NOTE: Shift work may be required. (Twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days per week operation requires availability for emergency call out).

Key Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Supervises and schedules Facility Operators and Caretakers; plans work assignments, shift rotations, and location coverage to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Leads recruitment, onboarding, and staff development, including performance appraisals, coaching, mentorship, and ongoing training for safe and effective facility operations.
  • Coordinates daily operations and logistics for user groups and events, including equipment setup/takedown, cleaning, and overall facility preparation.
  • Develops and implements work plans, aligning staffing and resources with service delivery needs and ensuring operational goals are met.
  • Conducts regular facility inspections, identifies maintenance needs, schedules repairs, and ensures preventive maintenance programs are followed.
  • Manages administrative tasks such as maintaining timesheets, submitting reports, preparing correspondence, and responding to public or interdepartmental inquiries.
  • Monitors compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards, corporate procedures, and government regulations related to employee safety and facility security.
  • Oversees budgeting and inventory, including budget preparation, requisitions, expenditure approvals, and material/equipment tracking and procurement.
  • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders, including sports organizations, community groups, and media, representing the department on various committees and projects.
  • Manages facility equipment and fleet assets, coordinates repairs and replacements, and collaborates with Fleet Services to minimize downtime and optimize performance.

Key Qualifications

 

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through completion of grade twelve (12) or equivalent coupled with courses related to facilities management. A Refrigeration Plant Operator’s Certificate and a Pool Operator’s Certificate are required. In addition, the successful candidate will have a minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of facility management experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory position and experience in the operation of major sport facilities. Supervisory training courses and a Fireman’s Certificate would be an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of facility operations and maintenance, including HVAC, mechanical systems, sound, alarms, emergency systems, artificial turf, pool filtration, ice maintenance, and sports field construction.
  • Deep understanding of facilities management principles, including concessionaire contracts, professional sports franchise requirements, and evolving technologies in the field.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with experience in unionized environments; able to motivate, train, and evaluate staff effectively.
  • Skilled in planning, organizing, and reviewing tasks, maximizing efficiency while maintaining high operational standards.
  • Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage time, priorities, and complex challenges with initiative and accountability.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build relationships with user groups, officials, community partners, and internal stakeholders.

  • Use SAP (Maintenance Management System) for creating, updating and closing work orders.
  • Generate accurate and effective maintenance records, status reports, and data and maintenance logs.  Effectively respond to oral and written requests.
  • Adhere to all electrical principles and methods, proper use of tools and equipment, and safety procedures.  This includes the safe and proper use of various hand and power tools, test meters and equipment.
  • Other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the Team Leader.

 

TheOtherQualifications: 

 

  • Provincial TQ and Red Seal IP certification in electrical work required
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in FMCG industry preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the maintenance of high speed packaging lines / batch brewing equipment.
  • General PC troubleshooting and repair knowledge, including MS Windows software and common PC components.
  • Rockwell Automation hardware and software experience, including the PLC-5 and Logix PLC/PAC platforms is a strong asset.
  • General instrumentation knowledge and experience.
  • Batch processing experience, specifically in S88/S95 based batch control systems.
  • Arc-flash and shock hazard awareness and knowledge, an asset.

Responsibilities:

Shop floor planning of mechanical and electrical maintenance work. This would also include contacting vendors for parts required or contractors for outsourced work. Parts kitting for all planned work prior to scheduling. 
  • Deliver the weekly work schedule utilizing trade availability, contractors and autonomous maintenance teams to align with production schedules and maintenance windows.
  • Maintain a current backlog of work for Trades and Contractors, this would consist of Preventative, Predictive, Statutory and Condition Based tasks.

  • Lead weekly planning & scheduling meetings to align maintenance activities for running and shut-down maintenance with Production teams. Ensure maintenance schedules include work permits, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the teams to provide quality feedback. Utilize this information to make improvements to preventive and predictive maintenance tasks within the CMMS.
  • Backfill Maintenance Team Leaders role when required. Assume all duties to provide effective maintenance support for Operations.
  • Member of the Progressive Maintenance pillar team. Owner of Daily Management Systems (lubrication and maintenance planning & scheduling) as part of the team. Completion of ‘step up cards’ to check knowledge of pillar deliverables.

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience as a licensed Tradesman or a degree in a technical field, ideally mechanical.
  • Experience working with vendors, identifying, sourcing machine parts and electrical components. Able to communicate with Team Leaders and Trades to provide required parts and tools.
  • Experience as a Maintenance Team Leader is a definite asset.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for servicing the transit vehicles. This position reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance and Equipment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs vehicle servicing functions including fuelling, checking and correcting fluid levels, exterior and interior cleaning and washing, testing of auxiliary equipment and minor maintenance/repairing.
  • Inspects lights, general body condition, tires, wheels and windshield wipers, etc. and reports defects to the shift supervisor.
  • Ensure security of cash forms and fareboxes during the changing process and proper recordkeeping associated with this task.
  • Assign transit coaches for the following day’s route assignments.
  • Performs general caretaking and housekeeping functions in department buildings.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Key Qualifications

Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required are obtained through completion of Grade 10 as well as successful completion of the first year of any of the mechanical trades.

Position Summary

This employee will be required to perform technical and journeyperson level duties relevant to the operation and maintenance of electrical high voltage distribution systems, electrical and instrumentation control systems, and computer data acquisition systems at Sewer & Drainage Operations lift station facilities. This position takes general direction from the Lift Stations Operations Supervisor.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Install, calibrate, program, and maintain sensors, meters, PLCs, HMIs, and data acquisition systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair high-voltage electrical distribution systems (up to 4160V).
  • Design and modify control circuits.
  • Support PLC programming and configuration.
  • Provide operations support and training to colleagues and contractors.
  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and technical documentation.
  • Assist with engineering projects, equipment upgrades, and process troubleshooting.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant software systems (e.g., GIS, Access, EmpCenter).

Main Purpose and Function

The Building Worker position performs a full range of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks in, and around, civic buildings, with the goal of keeping buildings clean and maintained in a safe and healthy manner and notifies direct supervisor of the need for any building repairs and maintenance.

 

This position requires a wide range of availability to cover operational needs, which are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including overnight shifts and weekends.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cleans spaces inside civic buildings; including but not limited to offices, meeting rooms, common spaces, bathrooms, kitchens, change rooms, steam rooms, gymnasiums, pre-schools
  • Mops, washes, waxes and buffs floors and vacuums carpeted flooring
  • Washes and sanitizes washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures
  • Cleans mirrors, windows, window coverings, and glass
  • Washes walls, doors, hardware and glass
  • Cleans public entrances and exits including but not limited to glass, doors and hardware
  • Cleans exterior grounds, spaces, parking lots and stairways

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a recognized certification program in building services work and some related experience
  • Experience performing a variety of routine manual tasks in care, cleaning and general maintenance of buildings
  • Experience operating and using janitorial tools, equipment and supplies

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of materials, tools, methods, safety practices and equipment used in janitorial and maintenance work
  • Ability to arrange an effective work schedule under minimum direct instruction
  • Good health and strength sufficient to perform a variety of routine manual tasks in care, cleaning and general maintenance of buildings
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations and understanding of utilizing WHMIS – MSDS
