Main Purpose and Function

This position is full time hours (7:00am - 3:30pm), Monday to Friday from April to August.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates must have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform heavy physical labour; ability to lift, push and pull heavy objects; ability to walk or stand continuously with frequent bending or twisting; ability to work close to moving machinery and in high traffic areas; ability to work on ladders, ability to work outside in all weather conditions, and on uneven surfaces; ability to use a variety of tools and equipment.

Education and Experience:

Measure length, width and height of a truck trailer and length, width and height of filled pallets to find out how many pallets of products can fit in trailer. Estimate weight of products on pallets to decide whether they can be lifted by forklift.
Communicate with suppliers to confirm details, such as purchase order numbers. Interact with co-workers to co-ordinate tasks and to discuss how to move heavy objects. Interact with supervisors to discuss problems, such as damaged shipments or shortages in orders.
Refer to assembly drawings to perform minor machine repairs or to assemble pieces. Refer to schematic drawings, such as air brake system for a truck.
Receive assignments from supervisors at beginning of each shift and plan how best to sequence tasks to meet deadlines. Adjust plans as needed if new loads arrive from suppliers sooner than expected.
Ability to work with a partner and independently as needed. Use a team approach to get materials ready so that they may be moved out efficiently.
